Donnie Black It's been awhile since I took in a metal show here, and I figured I shouldn't miss the bro's in the Meatlockers. The last time I saw them was when we did The Saancha Hall together back in Dec '95.
Gross Misconduct started off the night with some good ole thrash, with reminders of Entombed and Terrorizer. Very tight band, with an insane drummer. (the guy never stopped)
Bronze kicks ass more and more each time I see them. Any fan of Kyuss and Black Sabbath would love these guys. Cool stoner-rock. I'm glad to have shared a stage with them. They should become BIG.
Meatlocker 7. I bought the CD when I walked in the doors. Great show from the lads. The singer was a great frontman, and Steve reminded me of Gene when he'd hold his arms above his head. Their drummer was a maniac. I love dudes that look so fuckin' calm when they play, yet they're completely nuts on the skins. The snare sound sometimes reminded me of Ventor's at The New York Theatre on the Coma of Souls tour. As always, the guitars were tight. The crowd was great. Good turn out. It's good to see people out supporting the local scene. - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 4:22am
Anonymous Steve is totally Gene Simmons. It's gross. - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 7:36am
StonerChick Bronze, the band, fucking rule. Loving that rolling stoner vibe. Wanna come over? We are playing nice. Come over. Okay? Okay. - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 8:18am

All bands were fun to watch, I second that Bronze gets better with every show - they get in to such a cool groove with their songs. ML7 was awesome, Mike signed my disc. Their playing is incredibly tight. Drummer is unbelievable. My head hurts. I had to work at 8:30 this morning. Congrats on a great show - what a turnout! - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 12:21pm
Gertrude I just realized I have someone's disposable camera from meatlocker . One of you should swing by the Wal-Mart Photo Lab between 12 and 8,but I go aon my lunch between four and five.Three sets and a CD , I think.Duh. - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 1:24pm

Yeah man, That's a fucking killer Venue. One of the best stage sounds I've had by far, too bad we forgot to mention we had T-Shirts for sale. Super stoked that Meatlocker put us on the bill, But man, why didn't they sign anything for me?? Fucking rockstars....

Unfortunately due to having to work early today I had to leave half way through bronze's set, Although I was moving gear most of the time, what I did hear was pretty cool, reminds me of Sabbath kinda... Think I woulda liked it more if I stepped outside for a PR or 3 first, you know "get into the mood"

Choked that I couldn't stick around for ML7, I'm sure they fucking cruched though. Managed to get a copy of there CD, had a listening party on the way back to Nanaimo. Killer production! Album sounds fucking rad, It's nice to be able to pick apart there songs, and hear better off what they're doing. I have to say, they have a VERY original sound. Good job guys!

If you guys liked what you heard we're playing again next Sunday (29th) at Lucky with Anonymus and Pariah, from what I heard PARIAH is gonna fuck shit up! Be on the lookout. Also, we have some mp3's on our site to tide you over until we get a CD together. Check it out, http://www.grossmisconduct.net - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 1:55pm

I thought Bronze ruled the night but their set was too long (leave 'em wanting more!) - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 3:12pm
Chair Bronze are good but a bit boring.. generic sound.. I missed GM.. ML7 kicked fuckin ass as usual, they sure do have an original sound for a metal band, these days thats a tough thing to find.. Good show, good times, I didnt have enough money to buy a CD though, cuz I needed a few beers, but the price was right.. I had a look at one, and I was blown away that they were onl $7! - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 4:15pm

Well I'm finally sober, here's my report...

Gross Misconduct -=- Good opening band, quite a number of people mentioned these guys played tight, I have to agree but I didn't really hear anything which hooked me. Must of been cause I was sober (I swear to god I bought over $20 of water last night).

Bronze -=- Then Bronze took the stage. A three piece from Langford, not too bad. I'm really impressed cause the guitarist plays simple riffs, but has anyone heard of the amp he uses? (I know the bassist uses a Traynor setup :) The other thing which hooked me was that sound punch, it's hard to describe unless you were there. Hmmm... best way to describe them. If Black Sabbath were from down south, they would be Bronze. :)

Meatlocker Seven -=- I recognized a few of the tracks, but they must of played a bunch of new material. Perhaps it was the sound guy. After there last song, everyone started cheering "Meat-locker" which the lead singer got a kick out of, so we got them to play a few more songs. Question: What was the last tune they played?!? That was pretty cool!

I also bought the CD, I easily thought Mike would charge $10 for it, but for $7 it was a good deal. All in all, good venue, great gig. I met tons of people I always wanted to meet in person (like Quinn and Kirk Mercer), and had a hell of a time. Nice to meet all I ran into, and I was surprized how many good looking women showed up. Nuff said, thumbs up! Peace... - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 5:07pm
Adrenaline Animal I had a blast last night,
I thought GM were very good, first time I have heard them, nothing at all what I was expecting, I was pleasently surprised.
Bronze, well what can I say, they are just good old fashioned hard rock.
ML7 kicked some serious arse last night, you guys actually got me into the mosh pit for a little bit last night, that's some feat cause I haven't been in one of those for about 6 years now. The new disc sound Great, $7 good price, but with admision being $7 as well, makes me think that those prices might have something to do with your bands name.
Congrats on a great show and a great new cd.

I'll help you out a bit here:
Everyone email [email protected] and request ML7's song "Systemic" - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 5:18pm
music-wanker Okay, first off - Gross Misconduct is one of my favorite all-time bands; and i really don't just mean local bands, they seriously fuckin rip - they write origninal well-thought-out songs that are distinct from one another and they play with enthusiasm; i can't wait for their albums (the first is in septmeber but i imagine i'll be a longtime fan). And they were right on top of the beat for the whole set. I was skeptical as to whether Bronze would actually be stoner rock as their listed influences are weakish, but holy fuck, what great fuckin riffs - this band played wicked progressive riffs (with just the right amount of melodic shit) and explored all kinds of rhythmic and tempo shifts - fuckin rad - my only complaint is that some (definately not all) of the vocals lean towards radio-ness in a way that would make any music unbearable - the screechy end has a lot of potential though - that was all that kept me from getting an album (on a less expensive week for sure). This was the first time i saw the Locker. Not really my kind of metal, i really LOVE the couple sludgy parts and a lot of the fucked up timings and intros, but i just can't stay into music that returns over and over to the "everybody-mosh-everybody-mosh" part; they are incredible musicians and i was marveling that the song off their first album was so fuckin fast and tech and that they new actually represent six years of serious growth and improvement, i don't know, rad but i hope they write some different stuff, and the bass player should sing more cause he's got a rad fuckin voice. The venue was full of bar-star losers but the sound was unbelievable. - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 5:19pm

GOOD GOD!!!! Thank you all for coming out to help us celebrate this long awaited CD Release!
Gross Misconduct were tight, technical and amazing as usual...not to mention funny and gracious dudes. Hopefully this show has captured them some more fans.
Bronze did as I knew they would. Enthralling everyone in the place. 98% of the heads (including mine) in Upstairs were bobbing along during their whole set. I could have used a song or two more from them even, but time restraints happen.
We had a fucking blast playing for everyone! The sound on the stage was phenomenal and we hope it was as killer out front. We heard alot of positive feedback on the state of the sonics in that room. Loved the continuous mosh pit and great turnout!! Unfortuantely in all our rush and excitement we forgot to toss out some CD's from the stage, as we lamented afterwards. We will just have to toss out twice as many at the next show and maybe a shirt too.
Again, great seeing everybody out having an excellent time and the next CD Release party will be much sooner than six years from now!
Thanks for the video plug Adrenaline Animal! Now we must head out into the world and make a go of it.
Hope you all had a blast!! - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 5:33pm

Here it is:

- stage had awesome sound
- kick ass turnout
- girls at a metal show (Victoria rules!)
- Bronze was rad, singer = Andreas Kisser
- ML7 once again thanks for hooking us up, the night definitely belonged to you guys.
- $50 bar tab!! hahah I think we might have polished that off in about an hour, but they kept pumping us full of free booze. If 17 pints and 6 shots of Jag equals out to 50 bucks, then the Upstairs Cabaret is the best bar ever.

Hope to see some of you again next Sunday at Lucky Bar when we fuck shit up with Anonymus and Pariah. Be on the look out for possible up coming shows featuring us and Infernal Majesty in late August. METAL! - Sun, 22 Jun 2003 3:38pm

Speaking of Gross Misconduct, I was chatting with the drummer, he didn't want to drink apparently cause it distracts him from playing the way it does. i agree, it was great hangin' with tha' girls for once. i haven't been out to the bar or parties for about 4 months now and it was nice to have a night like that ; )

anywho...... on to my review.

we arrived about 10-15 minutes into Gross Misconduct's set and let me tell ya, i wish i hadn't missed any of it. since we played together in Nanaimo (back in January was it?) they sounded tight but now, they have added a maturity and depth to their songs. anyone who can appreciate smart song writing would appreciate the effort these guys have put into writing ear-candy riffs, melodic harmonies (YES, MORE MORE MORE!!!), original drum lines, and catchy time changes. the band is young in age and very well rehearsed - they take their music seriously and it shows. i would say that anyone could easily feel good about paying to watch these boys rip it up ; )

it was my first time seeing Bronze and they sure had a lot of fans! i have to admit that during their set, i never got to focus in on what they were doing because i was chatting too much but i enjoyed having a different style between GM and ML7 - a nicely set up bill ; ) why isn't Warren up on stage with them? i'm out of the loop on that one. was looking forward to watching him play.

well what can i say, ML7 finally has a finished product and i love it. Christer felt bad that he couldn't make it but a couple of bandmates of mine are moving away so he was stuck in the studio the whole night recording. first thing he did in the morning was chuck in the disk and had nothing but HUGE compliments to make to ML7, Rob Toth et al - he wants you to know he loves the disk. ML7 put on a tight performance. i love the crazy time changes in virtually every song and the back up vocals from Tony and Steve add nicely to mix things up a bit. Bram was a little more evil between songs, but still cute as hell ; ) excellent quality merch and a CD for 7 bux well, you so can't beat that! love the 8 panel fold-out disk jacket with lyrics..... sweet. wishing you guys all the best in your ongoing release and in sales. have a great time this summer touring ; ) great work! xoxo M. - Mon, 23 Jun 2003 7:38pm
Luger great fuckin show! My head is still spinnin.. - Mon, 23 Jun 2003 8:52pm
SkullSplitter Gross Misconduct:

I had never heard you guys before, however my friend from Repulverizer told me I had to be there for when you all hit the stage, and Im fucking glad I was!!!

Easily the best band I have heard from up-island, and some of those song topics *AkA: the one about the insane friend* were just fucking priceless!
You guys shreaded it up something feirce...
My only regret is that all you wallflowers diddn't jump on up to the front with me to support these guys a little more, but hey, at least you all walked up to the front which is alot better than I've seen alot of other bands get *20 Gauge comes to mind*
Great fucking set, Great fucking personality, I will definately be downloading those tracks from you're site!!!

Bronze:
Well I regret to say that I was EXTREMELY FUCKING PISSASS DRUNK when I arrived to the show... I went ahead and gave myself whiplash from all my psycho drunken headbanging for Gross Misconduct, so durning Bronze's set, my brains were a little battered, and I made my way over to the bar, downed a few brews, then went to smoke up as I realized how much I had fucked my neck from gross misconduct and was trying to recover for ml7, so sadly, I only caught bits and peices of Bronze, however my buddies who were there said you guys were stoner rock at its best!!

Meatlocker Seven:

Well guys where to start...

I know I said I'd be front row leading the hairwhippin for you all, but sadly, my neck was just FUCCKED from Misconduct, I was a little more drunk than I thought and did far too much hyper extension of the neck haha, My other 2 hairwhippin bros tried to make it but oddly enough, one was at a wedding rehersal and the other was upisland attending his fathers wedding, so those 2 lil fuckers just couldn't make it!

Bram - I don't know if it was just better speakers, or the extra power you got from that new hair growth of yours *heehe* but man, what a fucking improvement!!!
I don't really know exactly how I'd describe the change I noticed but this show, I gotta say to ya man, I thought you were good before, but this show, you really showcased what you can do, and it was fucking A!! Hell, at some points you got me revved up enough to actually force my whiplashed rusted neck into movement until it hurt soo bad I had to stop!, awesome fucking performance man! and I gotta say, that Policia parody "Burrito" you did, that was fucking PRICELESS ahahah! fuckin A to you for sure!!!!

For the rest of you, I also gotta say, being a ML7 vet, Ive seen you dudes meny times, and none of the other times was I as impressed with you all as this show!!!
I don't know what the fuck you guys did but MOFO did you guys ever take your sound to the next level!!!
Also the stage presence coming off of you guys was fucking great!!! In the midst of spweing out this ripping shit, I'd glance over @ mike + Steve to catch both of em smiling, and when they could spare a hand pop some horns @ the crowd... I know it sounds sort of lame, but that shit just made you all that much more likable and your set that much more enjoyable, when you can see the band themselves is having a great time and glad to see each and every one of those people out there infront of them!
Tony's classic ML7 metalshirt was pretty fuckin cool ahah, you guys sellin those yet or what????

And that little video of the spinning locker symbol on the tube was pretty damn cool, the atmosphere you guys had for this show was reminiscent of the vibe SYL put on before their last show... I've never wanted to hit front row and flail for you all soo much!!!
I just hope your next show, me and fellow idiots arent working and can make it out, if so you can count on us front fucking row leading the headbanging next time!!!

Big motherfucking congratulations to you all!!!
Best of luck on your tour and HUGE congrats on gettin that Vid. qued for muchloud!!!!
Hope I can cathy you all @ least once more before ya hit the road!

And as allways..

ML7Mike I just want to say thanks to everyone for coming down and showing some very strong support. If it wasnt for Victoria's support over the years we'd have never made it this far.. Victoria metalheads YOU RULE! Id like to thank Gross Misconduct and Bronze who both donated their time and art to our cause ( the cause being paying off the Cd's! ) and both those bands get our full support if they are ever in a similar position. Also, a big thanks to Big Mike the soundman/promoter, who did an excellent job of accomadating us and getting a good sound and for putting up with our grouch of a drummer. That was some of the best sound Ive ever had in Victoria and the sitelines in that club kick ass. I know the club was happy because they started running out of beer! - Tue, 24 Jun 2003 11:35am

Hetfeild? I think it's time to expand your musical horizon. Motherfucking Hetfield wishes he could sing like me. As for the name thing I enjoy the fact that our name does not pidgeonhole our sound before it's heard. I love it when we start playing and the looks on poeples faces change from 'here's the same old' to 'what the fuck is happening to my narrow minded prejudgement aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!'

MOD LYRICS GROSS MISCONDUCT (4:03)
You get what you give. The golden rule, that's life. If you stab me in the back, I'll use that very same knife. Treat me like a man, a human being. You'll get the same in return. Try to set me afire, I'll make sure you live to see me burn. Gross Misconduct that's our golden rule. Gross Misconduct on you. Gross Misconduct every rule I break. Gross Misconduct my rules I'll make. Things in your future reflect from things in the past. You were there to kick me down. Now I'm gonna kick you in the ass. What goes around comes around. A vicious circle so it seems. You heard me sing sweet pain before. Now it's your turn to sing. Gross Misconduct that's our golden rule. Gross Misconduct on you. Gross Misconduct every rule I break. Gross Misconduct my rules I'll make. That's life to each his own. You play a game but we're all full grown. Breaks loose. Gross Misconduct that's our golden rule. Gross Misconduct on you. Gross Misconduct every rule I break. Gross Misconduct my rules I'll make. My rules I'll make.
