Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia is the name of the album by Norway's Black Metal band, Dimmu Borgir. I'd have to say from a black metal heads point of view that Dimmu is the greates band and they have clearly proved that with this album. Their music really fits together more than their last few albums where there were different members. This album is 100% SHREDING with new Symphony parts in the songs that add alot to their style. Great dumming, everyhting fits together. I'd strongly reccomend listening to "Symposium", "Blessings on the throne of Tyranny" and "Kings of Carnival Creation", all good examples of Dimmu's talent. So YOU! Get of the computer! Goto fuckin A&B Sound and buy this fucker. - Thu, 19 Jun 2003 4:51pm
Anonymous Their version of Burn In Hell by Twisted Sister is pretty sweet, too. - Thu, 19 Jun 2003 5:15pm
Chris If you want to be really blown away, buy Emperor's
masterpiece "Prometheus:the art of fire and demise"
The way the music is layered, the riffs, etc is superior in my opinion. All the songs are solid...Listening to this album will inspire you! - Thu, 19 Jun 2003 8:53pm
ML7Mike Two very cool albums.. too bad about the big Dimmu gig fiasco in Vancouver a few years ago.. - Thu, 19 Jun 2003 11:43pm
SOS Jesse Emperor are the lords of all things black metal! Prometheus is a mesmerizing record and let's not forget IX Equilibrium, Anthems to the Whelkin at Dusk... fuck, they're all masterpieces... - Fri, 20 Jun 2003 11:39am

Dimmu Borgir is my favorite black metal band, period. Their stuff isn't exactly nekro or anything but it is absolutely, as you said, godly. - Fri, 20 Jun 2003 10:30pm
ML7Mike Tim, I wouldnt really consider new Emperor or Dimmu Borgir to be Black Metal. - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 6:16pm

ANOREXIA NERVOSA: "New Obscurantis Order"
My personal #1, that's where it's at for me, definitely nothing soft about it, the blasting is relentless, the riffs symphonic, the classical keys are definitely haunting as compared to "atmospheric with the guitars," the keys are distinct from the guitars rather than trying to match them. No vocal effects either, yet he seems to mold shreiking/growling together. This is a fucking powerful album, period. http://www.mother-anorexia.com - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 6:55pm

When I think of Black Metal, I think of Darkthrone, Burzum and Mayhem as examples. The overproduced stuff is more like Shiny Metal. - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 7:21pm

Emperor's In the Nightside Eclipse and Anthems are outstanding. - Mon, 23 Jun 2003 2:10am
Elliot I agree that Emperor is heads above Dimmu. Especially their newer stuff. I find Dimmu's new record to be almost too cheesy at times. Too much synth. It almost ends up sounding like the britney spears of death metal. - Mon, 23 Jun 2003 3:14am

I don't know man, comparing Emperor to Dimmu Borgir is like comparing apples to oranges. They're too different to judge one against the other, in my opinion. I like 'em both, mind you, but Emperor's earlier stuff (Nightside) is more evil sounding than the others. I think IX equilibrium and Prometheus are more about skilled/progressive musicianship than being "evil." But yet Dimmu's stuff, cheesy as it is (and don't get me wrong, I fucking love cheese, I'll eat it up like a mother cat with her placenta) it's actually more evil sounding than Emperor's new stuff.
Personally, I can't wait for Jon Nodvoidt's new Dissection projects (with ex-Emperor's drummer Bard Faust.) That will simply kick 10 kinds of ass.... - Wed, 25 Jun 2003 4:42pm
SOS Jesse Black metal has changed greatly over the years and has evolved into something beyond the scratchy, raw, evil-sounding, ancient times, 'cold forests of Norway' type of stuff. It now has much more depth and borrows influences from a variety of other genres. While the new Dimmu and Emperor don't sound like the black metal of old, they are definetly in that genre in the same way that Cryptopsy or Nile doesn't sound anything like old-school death metal like Cannibal's 'Tomb of the Mutilated' or Obituary's older stuff, but they're still death metal, just an evolved for of it. - Thu, 26 Jun 2003 11:23am
