Ok, NONE of you want to miss Misery Index, and if you are, I PITY YOU! I seriously thought they were the best band I saw all year when they played here last. Also looking forward to Soilent Green - haven't seen them before and I liked what I'd heard a lot.
So, tomorrow night, tech death anyone? every metalhead I give a crap about will be there and I've got an extra, gimme a shout - Sat, 6 Dec 2008 10:21am

Hey, that was a killer show! MI weren't as memorable for me as last time, but holy crap they're good.
Soilent Green was my pick of the night - what a great drummer!

Ok, someone explain the enamor with the Black Dahlia - i'm looking at you CD! They were alright, but it all kinda sounded the same to me. And seriously, that drummer was hardly playing at all over all the auto-rat tat tatting. I guess it'd tough for anyone to follow real drummers like the ones that night though.
Good seeing you guys - great meeting you Pauly! That was fun. - Fri, 12 Dec 2008 10:39am Edited: Fri, 12 Dec 2008 10:42am

Black Dahlie Murder shit the fucking bed. That drummer sucked, and comparing the last CD they did with the one before (Miasma) I thought the drumming on the new one, while faster and tighter, lacked something that the drummer on Miasma had. Well low and behold, the new drummer fucking ruined every song they played off Miasma, EVEN THOUGH he was playing it slower. I went up to the bassist from Misery Index while BDM were playing and told him "your drummer rapes this guy." He just sorta chuckled at me. I bought their new CD, Traitors, and I've probably listened to it over 15 times since the show. What an awesome CD! I agree though, their sound wasn't too hot (the guitar player at stage right, that ampeg he was playing thru sounded like CRAP) so I wasn't totally blown away by them but god damn if they didn't make BDM look shitty.

But yeah, Sati, if you want to know why I was repping Black Dahlia Murder BEFORE the played, just listen to Miasma. Album fucking slaaaaaays.

Soilent Green were pretty freaking awesome, even if I wasn't into some of the songs they played. Everything off Sewn Mouth Secrets, a couple off the very newest one and slapfuck got me pumped. - Fri, 12 Dec 2008 2:27pm

hahahahah. you're fucking lame Mr. Hell, and the word rape doesn't just mean forcing sex on someone. from dictionary.com:

4. an act of plunder, violent seizure, or abuse; despoliation; violation: the rape of the countryside.
5. Archaic. the act of seizing and carrying off by force. - Mon, 15 Dec 2008 7:17am

I heard BDM were down one guitarist due to sickness.. I could see that having a detrimental effect on their overall sound.. - Mon, 15 Dec 2008 9:21am

The guitars were fine; could have used a second person, but the main issues were the shitty singer, and the shitty drummer. - Mon, 15 Dec 2008 10:48am

admittedly, the guitar riffs are by far the best part of that band in my not so humble opinion and is the primary reason why I listen to them. Strange about the drummer, as you said he is tight as fuck on the album, although with less feeling in his style.. maybe they all have the sickness the guitarist had. - Mon, 15 Dec 2008 11:06am

Miasma / Unhallowed era BDM rips

new stuff just doesnt have the gnar of the old - Mon, 15 Dec 2008 10:42pm Edited: Mon, 15 Dec 2008 10:42pm

I disagree. shannon lucas has plenty of gnar, but he doesn't overplay like so many other drummers do. he's managed to strike a nice balance between technicality and musicality, whereas too many guys these days don't give a fuck about the latter.

of course, if you're one of those extreme metal purists, you probably don't give a fuck about musicality and you can ignore this post entirely. - Thu, 18 Dec 2008 8:09pm

Dude the new drummer from Black Dahlia Murder has little to no style. I'm not a purist, I listen to a lot of sloppy bands, a lot of slow, mid and fast paced extreme metal. The new drummer from BDM is a perfect example of all speed, no style. Booooring, and couldn't even do the more stylistic stuff the older drummer did. He's kind of the opposite of what you think he is. But that's just opinion; and I -like- BDM, and the newest album is pretty good (not as good as Miasma) but live he wasn't very good at all. - Fri, 19 Dec 2008 10:49pm

Trying to imagine the "Sewn Mouth Secrets" back-up/trade-off vox without Anselmo, not that I'm a fan of his, but he IS fine and dandy here. (As he is, also, with Mr. Puttnam, doing "Gloves of Metal", "Bill Scott's Dumb" and the theme song to "Three's Company") - Sun, 21 Dec 2008 3:55pm

I didn't realize Phil Anselmo did those trade-offs with him. This vocalist was really competent at switching between his highs and lows, he sounded fucking bang on that night. - Wed, 24 Dec 2008 11:05am

I guess Mr. Hell is gonna be busy taking over as drummer for all those bands he spends his days and nights whining about. He's the awesomest drummer ever. He's Neil Peart, Stewart Copeland, Alex Van Halen and Buddy Rich all in one and he dresses like a poofta too. - Sat, 31 Jan 2009 2:50am Edited: Sat, 31 Jan 2009 2:53am

I play bass, guitar and do some vocals. I practice to make sure I can do them competently. You should try to do the same and this kind of stuff won't have to happen. - Sat, 31 Jan 2009 8:11pm
