METALHEAD!% Just listening to the new Radiohead album, and there is a couple of really good songs but alot of it seems, well boring. You can hear it for yourself here:

some girl... I kinda agree. I found their last two albums a bit much when I first heard them, but they really grew on me (Like most people I still miss the old Radiohead) I find that the album is more like background noise to listen to when I'm painting and it's after midnight--> so I can't play loud/aggressive music w/out getting a noise complaint. After a few nights of doing this, I found myself brainwashed into liking it.

What do you guys/gals think of their official web site? What's with the endless pages of grey shapes and artsy garble? - Thu, 5 Jun 2003 6:23pm
Japanese Air Force I've personally never liked their website. A little to pretentious and artsy fartsy for my liking.

I haven't heard the real Hail To The Thief yet, (I'm waiting to buy it), but what I heard of the leaked unmastered stuff was interesting, most of it anyways. I found that Kid A and some of Amnesiac was just pretentious noise. Like "we can do this so we will" kind of stuff. Not to say that everything on Kid A is like that, but I found that a lot of it is just boring as shit to me.

From what I heard about this new album, is it's a bit of a throwback to earlier days, more rock stuff like on The Bends.

I'll be able to witness the new stuff first hand tonight at Silver City. There's a live simulcast of a concert in the States showing at 10pm tonight. Just like the one Korn did last year or whatever. Should be pretty sweet.

??? Love all of their albums. Kid A is a work of genius. Just because it's different doesn't mean it's pretentious. It is a great album though, pretentious or not.

btw, here' s the entired mastered album:

I recommend 'punch-up, 'there there', '2+2=5', 'Sit Down, Stand Up' and 'Sail to the Moon' off the top of my head. Limited Edition on Tuesday!!! - Sat, 7 Jun 2003 12:48am
Virgin Never heard Radiohead before.....last night I saw them live at the Movie threatre. It was sort of a fluke.

Japanese Air Force Yeah, definately a good show, although I was expecting a bit more of a stage show, not just a bunch of lights. It was cool to see them pull off a bunch of the studio sounds that you wouldn't think could be done live.

I wonder what the total pedal count would be on that stage... there was a LOT of gear!

If you're just getting into them and you're looking for a decent starting point, I'd recommend picking up The Bends, their second album.

After that, I'd say OK Computer is a safe second purchase, and then go from there. Hail to the Thief sounds like a good throwback to The Bends days, and still enough chaos to remind you where they've come these last two albums.

Japanese Air Force Ah, the burdens of being a Radiohead nerd.

~JAF - Sun, 8 Jun 2003 4:33pm
??? yeah - ultimately we are all alone, but i'll try to remedy that right now:

i'm bored. - Sun, 8 Jun 2003 6:25pm
ya ya ya If you like radiohead go check the cover band out" the bends". its Johnny action figure doing a great job at paying homage to them...pretty cool - Sun, 8 Jun 2003 8:44pm
thomsong Pretentious-faux-art-whale music-craptastical-shark sandwich-no melody havin'-nuclear holocaust of donkey ass.Yes kiddies, radiohead is something you'll grow out of once you get out of university. In the meantime, hang on their every move as though your life depended on it,smoke some more cigarettes, and continue to feel unappreciated.Radiohead is as mainstream as it gets peeps, the joke is they know it and continue to spew tuneless monotony at their legion of fans while contemptuously laughing all the way to the bank.BOO YAA!!!! - Mon, 16 Jun 2003 7:12pm
ho hum Why would we go see The Bends when JAF calls their most interesting stuff (Amnesiac) pretentious? Sounds like they might be just a top 40 cover band. - Tue, 17 Jun 2003 5:05am
some girl... I don't have a problem with a band becoming mainstream/popular: that's just the reward they get for all their hard work. However, I do have a problem with Radiohead claiming in thier interviews and last couple albums that they're oh-so against capitalism (yadda yadda...) yet they fenced off the area infront of their stage and sold those tickets for outrageous prices/radio listener prizes (that was the last time they played in Vancouver). So much for their "sense of community' anarchist crap. Or, may be someone can enlighten me with what was up with that?? - Tue, 17 Jun 2003 11:09am
Anonymous In defence of japanese air force. he's the drummer and probably wouldn't understand. And for the guy who thinks we will "outgrow" radiohead what will we grow into musicman? - Tue, 17 Jun 2003 3:20pm
Ya Ya Ya This is a wonderful specimen! dont be discouraged if Live Victoria nerds dont like you......bands make money regardless of criticisms...no one here knows jack shit about the industry , our buying habits, or whats good or bad......this is a snapshot of us trying to sound like our opinions matter....get out of the way...you talk too much - Tue, 17 Jun 2003 5:40pm
Japanese Air Force Hey, you know what? Fuck you. Don't stereotype me because I play drums, that's just fucking ignorant.

And don't shit on the bends just because I have an opinion about an album. We play songs from EVERY album, including Kid A and Amnesiac, and while I think that SOME of the stuff on Kid A is pretentious, I definitely do not think the whole album is. Seriously though, http://www.rubber-band.com/thebends, check the setlist if you don't believe me.

??? well that would suck, because we don't want two copies of exactly the same band.

Adam Cynic I have had a good 6 listens through the disc now and I think it is an outstanding piece of work. It Has some of the best qualites of the bends and kid a all in one. There are definately a couple songs I don't entirely "get", but then again, radiohead has always had at least a couple on each album like that.

favourites off the top of my head are #1, 4, 10, 14.

And I must say, Tom is probably one of the most musically minded drummers in this city so you anon idiots can STFU. - Fri, 20 Jun 2003 12:53am

I find that the majority of bands that I automatically like (CD wise) usually get played to death for a few days and then they simply get forgotten. The CDs that I've had to warm up to are usually the ones that get played at least 2 times a week (after being played to death). Although I totally love Radiohead's old stuff I have to admit that I haven't actually listened to it in over a year. Their new stuff (which I claim I don't like as much as their early work: I'm a contradiction) still gets played.

Basically, I don't think that you can really compare the early with the new. The same arguement can be said about the Smashing Pumpkins. At least Radiohead's newer stuff is, as Adam said, more musically open. Thank God they didn't crash and burn like Soundgarden/Chris Cornell (last album was pretty lame, and what is up with Audioslave?). - Fri, 20 Jun 2003 10:29am
