| Doc User Info... | I see people ignoring the police request that they leave also, and wasting the time that they are given to do so. Beyond that, I do NOT see the campers resisting arrest, rather they appear to be resorting to passive resistance which as far as I know is not the same thing. Further to that, the police response seems to be appropriate as well, even to the point where you hear one cop tell DAJ why he's being arrested. From what I saw, the police were courteous to the extent that the situation allowed, I heard several of them call DAJ Dave in a familiar and not unfriendly matter, I heard repeated use of the word please by the police. Besides, the new by-law allows people with no alternative to set up their temporary shelters, it jusr places a reasonable time limit on them. I think there are alot of lurkers on livevictoria.. apparently the site has been known to get 1000's of hits per day, so thats a big circle. Homeless people do not bother me, or most people. Chumps like DAJ who are perfectly capable of working, but choose to talk down to those of us who do as minions of the evil system, whilst leeching off the same system make me want to puke. Everytime he posts something here from his 'free' computer with its 'free' internet connection while he sits in an out reach center or the like, where the rent is paid for by the system, while munching on soup donated by the tax payers, now thats Bullcrap.. screw that loser and his agenda. Save the beds and tent spaces for those that really need them. And of the 1300 or so homeless on the streets of VIctoria, Id like to hear the breakdown of that stat, how many of these (especially younger ones ) actually have homes and supportive families but have chosen to abandon them for their 'street family', screw them too. You even see some them on the news, their families offering them everything they need to get a foot up, but nope they'd rather beg and leech and mooch. Meanwhile so many of these lazy leech moochers sucking the resources dry and the truly needy, the elderly, the mentally inept, the heavily addicted, the handicapped, they lose out because the tax payers are so sick of hearing about assholes like DAJ that they forget to differentiate between the two and lump them all into the same pile. - Mon, 27 Oct 2008 10:55am | ||
| bbjones User Info... | Getting accurate stats on the number of homeless is a big part of the problem. From all the reading I've done this year, this is how I understand it: - There are approx 1,500 "homeless" - A majority of that number are techincally homeless, but do not sleep on the streets (i.e. they couch surf) - For the hardcore homeless/ill and addicted, it is believed that there ARE enough emergency/shelter beds available right now. - There are continously more and more shelfters and programs coming together to increase the avaialble resources for people that need it. No, the programs are not perfect and it will take years but it is moving in the right direction. Now, my personal opinion and experience also tells me there is an increasing number of vagrants and transients that come out here. This includes "meth kids" that simply defy society and choose to live on the streets to escape mommy and daddy's "rules". I personally belive, that if all of the tards that THINK they are homeless actually went back home, there would be ample supply of beds and services for those that really need it. If I ever became homeless, the first thing I'd do would be to take out all the douche bags pretending to be homeless that were eating up my services. But don't get me wrong... You didn't get tazed did you? They used as much force as was necessary to get you off the ground and to the station. GET OVER IT.
