anyone have any good ideas of how to promote this to say .. people who aren't on the livevictoria message board? I think there are a lot of kids into metal in this town that would NOT want to miss this if they actually knew about it. I'm going to poster the ever-loving shit out of it, but other than that .. and word of mouth .. how the hell am I going to get the word out about this? Even the marginally 'successful' all-ages metal shows in this town don't bring in nearly the amount of people needed to get the bands breaking even. - Tue, 7 Oct 2008 5:17pm

handbill at high schools ... stick up posters by high schools ... that all ager I put on a couple years ago with Night Mother/Apocalypta/Mito/Shores of Tundra was a ridiculous success and I attribute it to that. also hit up the flocks of slimy kids who hang out by the mall entrance downtown. - Tue, 7 Oct 2008 5:27pm

as Shawn said there Highschools etc work well.
It is something i want to take advantage of more but i don't have the time personally for my shows to poster (why i use metropol) but when i was in highschool learning about shows was awesome.
If you have the resources you should also poster near highschools in communities just outside of victoria (Langford -Belmont, Sydney/Brentwood - Stellys and Parkland)
As at least in the hardcore scene it seemed a few years ago a lot of the people that became regulars were from out there..
Another tactic
Try to make use of other Internet pumping of the show.
Facebook = pretty well populated right now.
-Events remind people about the show when it appears as well. There is a low turnover on the people who actually show up from attending but they at least know. And when someone does say attending there friends notice right.

Myspace has the events now too.. aren't really utilized as well.
I find myspace bulletins work much better that way.

You can get the show listed at CFUV if you bring a poster in there.
Also email thezone and they will mention it on air every once in awhile and list it on their website.

Handbills are god and underused. I've seen you handbilling though Scott, so good on ya. Handbill outside of shows too though, if you see anyone on the street who looks like they'd be remotely interested, hand them one, say "it's a metal show, if you're into metal, you should come!" it doesn't need to be a long awkward stranger conversation :P. - Thu, 9 Oct 2008 10:16pm

... and I was serious. What are the other highschools around Victoria? Also, I was thinking some people up island should be coming to this but I really have no fucking idea how to tell them about the show. - Thu, 16 Oct 2008 10:40am

highschools:

Oak Bay High at Fort and Foul Bay, Mount Doug right by UVic on Gordon Head Rd., on that note Uvic as well, Vic High in Fernwood, Reynolds on McKenzie and Borden (a block up from Quadra), St. Andrew's on McKenzie and Saanich, St. Michaels by Camosun Landsdown, Belmont by CanWest Mall in Langford, and that's all I've got off the top of my head.

Don't worry I'm a student teacher ... not a creeper .. that's how I know where most of them are. - Thu, 16 Oct 2008 4:31pm

On the topic of highschools,
Maybe if you have the time also go out to the highschool in Sooke
There are a lot of kids into either rave or "metal" but you might be able to get them out.
Its along the bus route out to Sooke.

Esquimalt has a highschool too doesn't it... - Thu, 6 Nov 2008 10:27am

There's no point in postering Parklands. When I graduated I was probably the only metalhead that went to that school. Oh sorry, make that 2 others (maybe).

That school probably would rip down your posters since it, "goes against community values". - Tue, 11 Nov 2008 3:58pm

FUCK!! Just reminded how much I love Impaled. The sound up front was disastrous .. BUT overall the sound was great for that horrible room. Good call on the extra PA! They played a fairly good span of material and nailed all the super memorable stuff. Very pumped! - Wed, 12 Nov 2008 4:25pm

Thanks to everyone who came down and helped out. Special thanks to Comrade for taking care of the til, Matt for watching the door and making sure no one was fucking around outside, and Mike Alexander from Putrescence for getting me to put the show on. Oh yes and the staff from Vic Events Center, Amanda for renting me the place, and Stefan and Mattais (spelling?) for helping with sound and keeping an eye on things. And last but definitely not least, Ron for teching his PA and pretty much figuring the whole sound system out.

Onto the bands ..

Compound Terror - yeah I played drums for this band. Drums are hard. I had fun despite not being warmed up at all. Other than that, good times.

Peruke - just fucking amazing to see this band again, they having not played here for over two years. Quinn fucking nailed the vocals and the addition of a bass player just made them that much more brutal. I swear Doug is one of the reasons I picked up sticks and forced myself to do vocals at the same time (Death Chasm? Chaos Assassin?) He was tight as fucking hell.

Putrescence - hands down one of my favourite grindcore bands of all time. Seeing them has been a long time coming. They did not disappoint one bit. Just crushing.

Fuck the Facts - This is the third time I've seen this band and they get better every time. Disgorge Mexico is a fucking monster of an album, if you guys haven't picked it up yet you are seriously missing out. Great people, great band.

Impaled - I have been listening to this band for many years and never dreamed I would get to put on a show for them. Definitely one of the front-runners of goregrind and their performance left no doubt in my mind of this conviction. Fist-pumping fucking metal!

Again, thanks to everyone for helping out, showing up, and (somewhat) behaving themselves. Heheheheh. - Thu, 13 Nov 2008 11:45am

Damn that sounds like a wicked show. I booked time off work to see FTF/ Putrescence in Kamloops (I live in the interior) but wasn't able to make it. FTF's and Putrescence's new albums are both awesome. Mike Alexander is one of my favorite vocalists/ writers ever. - Fri, 14 Nov 2008 5:14pm
