Here's a question for any metal or hard edged guitarist in Victoria, how did you get as good as you are today?!? I hear bands like Gallows End and Self Inflicted, but trying to play as fast when your just learning can be a frustrating experience. Can anyone answer this?!? Peace... - Thu, 15 May 2003 6:57pm
Anonymous Yuppp! It's called PRACTICE TILL YUR FINGERS BLEED! Or you can always find a genie and make a wish! But I think that practice is probably a little more realistic. In no time, you'll find yourself keeping up the pace. - Thu, 15 May 2003 7:05pm

I think the best way to get your chops up is to just practice all the time! Once you get the basics down start a band, write some songs... looking back pretty much the first 20 songs I wrote are complete shit, but its a learning experience. I find playing other people's songs helped out in the begining, but now is extremely boring... to each his own though. Also, If you want to learn metal start practicing old Metallica, it definitely helps, lots of down picking is good to warm the muscles up. Also, as hard as it sounds, just relax your wrist if you want to blast super fast. - Thu, 15 May 2003 8:09pm

start with covers. it's all about covers at first, just to help you figure out runs and what you can do with certain strings and notes and little scales and shit. also, make time to play every single day. unless there's no gear around. and start slow at first, trying to force it will piss you off so much you'll end up quitting about 60 times before you get anywhere with it. listen to all styles of playing as well, just to pick up song structures from differant styles. every genre has a differant style of writing, and it helps to know as much as you can about all of them. and oh yeah, practice and get good gear sometime too..... - Thu, 15 May 2003 8:16pm
