The Olympics showcase humanity's finest athletes.
I am happy that Canada finally has more medals than Ethiopia, and Mongolia. - Sun, 17 Aug 2008 12:13am

And I'm sure you'd feel the same way if you were forced from your home with no recompense. Like more than a few Chinese nationals have. Not to mention all the other travesties that go on daily there. - Sun, 17 Aug 2008 1:37am

'Meds keeping you up at night again Chopper?'

Yeah I guess anyone that has issues with human rights abuses must have mental issues. Nice attempt at a troll, but that didn't even remotely bother me.

Thanks for the advice, but unlike the majority of sheep that frequent these boards, I already am involved. I've been involved with Amnesty International since I was 15 (30yrs ago).

If you support the Olympics, then you are just as bad as China is. You support what they do to their own people by supporting it. - Sun, 17 Aug 2008 1:00pm

I support the athletes that spend their lives training to compete on the highest stage. While shit happens surrounding the big games; I still support the athletes. I see your point chopper; and call me what you want, but it still wont take away from my respect for the athletes. - Sun, 17 Aug 2008 8:37pm

Tsingtao is proof that good things can come from fascist rule.

(and I realize they call themselves communists. But they don't do anything communist... they're just not communists. They don't... well they don't follow any communist doctrines. So I call them fascists.) - Sun, 17 Aug 2008 9:56pm

China isn't ready to join the civilized world yet. I don't support any athlete whose participation condones the way that country carries on for the sake of winning a medal and making a name for themselves. That's wrong. - Mon, 18 Aug 2008 2:29pm

Just to follow your logic Devin;

did you know that in 1968 Mexico, 2 days before the Olympics took place, gunned down almost 500 people that were part of a student protest? Or how about Seoul displacing 3/4 million "undesirables"? And to not support any athlete who's country seeks to do well in the olympics? Canada for instance; we are hosting the Winter olympics in 2010(incase your ignorant mind hasn't heard); we aim to be a top contender. By your logic all 3 countries that I've just spoken of aren't "ready for civiliztion" as YOU know it.
So, my question to YOU is; who is ready for "civilization" then?
Have you ever supported Canada in its quest to the gold medals in hockey? if so, then your supporting the same cause as China.
You seem to think you know all; but at the end of the day, your broad sweeping statements like that, make you look like a fucking idiot. - Mon, 18 Aug 2008 2:55pm

And furthermore:

Human rights are extremely important, and they take precedence over athletic competitions. If you'd like to argue that point, you're going to fail no matter who you're arguing with. - Mon, 18 Aug 2008 2:58pm

yeah great;
but by your logic NO country invovled in the olympics is "ready" for your type of civilization. Simply put. And who are you to say who's "ready for civiliation" when the heritage/culture you speak of is deeper than yours could ever be?
I get pissed off because people like you and many others consider China to be like the outcast; when Vancouver is doing the same thing, and so did Korea... just imagine what London is gunna do with the "undesirables". Stop acting like China has been the only wrong doers... cause they haevn't.
Why dont you shit on vancouver? korea? or england? or mexico? how about the USA for salt lake city? - Mon, 18 Aug 2008 3:24pm

The Olympics are bad for poor people wherever they are held. In any of your examples, the athletes benefited from the subjugation/execution of the host country's citizens when they attempted to argue that the country had better things to spend their money on than the Olympics. This is what is happening in China, and ignorance on the part of the athletes is really weak excuse for contributing to the abuse. It'll be the same for Chinese athletes coming to Vancouver as well. They'll fuck the poor as much as Canadians in China. - Mon, 18 Aug 2008 3:50pm

yeah a pretty awesome finish at the triathlon(gold would've been nice)

how bout that Bolt! Smashing the 100m record and beating Johnson's 12 year old 200m record. Pretty amazingly fast.

So now the question begs: Phelps or Bolt? who's more deserving as a competitor? - Wed, 20 Aug 2008 1:49pm

That was a great basketball game. Spain really hung in there until the last three minutes. A pile of missed shots, including a missed three pointer plus a rash of technical fouls finished them off at the end.
Hockey and Basketball are my favorite Olympic sports. To bad NHLers wont be included after 2010 anymore.

Karate should be in the Olympics instead of Tae kwon do.

Sweet, have to repost again.

The cuban dude actually won the gold medal in 2000. In tae kwon do you have a minute of injury time, and if you cant continue you lose. He did some argument where he didnt know the minute was up, was pissed off with losing and kicked the ref in the face.

Regardless tae kwon do in olympics is silly soft hits. I would much rather see jujitsu, judo, karate, kung fu, sambo or anything over that crap. - Sun, 24 Aug 2008 12:47pm
