"last week Betuzzi, Cloutier, and the rest were heroes"

not really man, clouts has always been a loser, fans are just in denial though cuz they know crawford wont play Auld and clouts is all they got for now.

If Van had better goaltending they would be the Stanely Cup Champs this year.

Bertuzzi was a leading contender in the scoring and goals race this season, plus he's vancouvers main man power forward thus he had high expectations placed upon him. He didnt perform like he was supposed to and now the fans are lashing out. Berts had a job to do and didnt do it. - Sun, 11 May 2003 2:20am

I'm not sure about that "champs" shit.If it wan't for Dan, our record wouldn't have been as good. Check the regular season sats kids...he's quality. It was the first time he'd ever been thar far. It takes time. We're one of the youngest tems in the league. It will take form, trust me. The Canucks have what it takes guys - just wait. - Sun, 11 May 2003 2:42am

Yeah, how dare he not carry the team.....

Well, ok, he had a job to do and didn't do it, but how long can you expect the dude to do what he did? This is Stanley Cup fucking hockey, if you don't have a team behind your Bertuzzis, they can't last long.... - Sun, 11 May 2003 2:43am

CrazyLegsXP dont gimmie that "the canucks are a yong team" crap. Im a fan too but Minnesota is a "young" team too and they showed that could make it, think back to last year, Carolina was a "young team" they went all the way to the finals for godsakes.

Vancouver is notorious for having poor goaltending. Cloutier probably is a good goaltender but just doesnt show that when playing for vancouver. hell we once had Potvin, he blew chunks for us, now he's a solid #1 goalie for LA. Van just needs to get there goaltending problem sorted out fast. they are an amazing team, and its not fair to the fans, and to the other players on the canucks to have someone like cloutier piss around and not perform like he's being paid to do. - Mon, 12 May 2003 2:25pm
ticklefish Yeah, the Canucks blew it, and Clouts and the defence and the "power forwards" all blew it. It is the "young team" problem. Minny is roaring right now, but their bubble will pop. Vancouver is right where Ottawa was 5-6 years ago,a nd look at the Senators now. If Burke trades everyone away, they will stay exactly where they are, if he tells them he wants them to work harder and keep at it, next year, or the year after that (hell a few years even) this team will believe in themselves. The fans of the Canucks have to be the most impatient, ungrateful idiots in the league. A championship team takes time to mature, and these guys, Cloutier included, can make it happen if they stick together.

Ottawa is the best example of what they could be, a team that doesn't have a big payroll, but just makes a few signings here, and a few over there, and those guys are fucking hot right now, and will be for a few years yet. If you just want to sign stars and think that will get you a Stanley Cup, can anyone say "New York Rangers"? - Mon, 12 May 2003 3:05pm

My point, Mr. Cherry, was the younger the team, the longer the same dudes can stick around on the same team and play together on the same line and shit. It's not like all our guys are gonna retire in 1 or 2 years like Dallas, Colorado, Detroit, etc...if we can keep basically the same dudes for the next 3 or 4 years, we'll be kicking the shit out of everybody. Then I can finally stop cutting my wrists right about this time every single year.... - Mon, 12 May 2003 3:09pm

Without tight defense and back checking forwards, how can you expect a goalie to stand up? Clouts is a quality goalie, but he can't be expected to keep everythign out all night without defense carrying their weight.... - Mon, 12 May 2003 3:27pm

Knifeghost, are you related to Dan Cloutier? Hey, I like Cloutier too, but he did not play up to his abilities. The only goalie in the playoffs with a worse save percentage than Clouts was Alex Auld, who only played one period.

The truth is that Cloutier has a great deal of pottential. He has moments when he looks like a good #1 golie and moments when he looks like he is so lacking in confidence that he should have been a part some of the pathetic Canuck teams of years past.

There are times with this Canucks team, over the past couple of playoff years, when they probably would have been better off with any goalie, even if it was a goalie with less skill than Clouts, in net simply because, at this stage in his career, Cloutier is the most inconsistant and psychologically challenged goaltender in the NHL.

I have full confidence, as I'm sure that Brian Burke, Mark Crawford, and the entire Canucks team do, that Clouts will most likely overcome this at some point in his career. However, in this day and age, be them a relatively young team or not, it will be very hard for the Canucks to keep this team together for five years. That said, how many chances will Cloutier have? I think what it comes down to is, how close does Brian Burke think that he is to having a REAL Stanley Cup contender. If the answer to that question is next year, then, though I wish Cloutier well in his endevours, I don't think he'll be in Vancouver next year. I could be wrong but that will be for Brian Burke and the Canucks organization to decide. - Mon, 12 May 2003 7:58pm

JC: To be honest I didn't watch five minute of that series.... It's just that it's really easy to blame the goalie.... - Mon, 12 May 2003 10:21pm

Then you should have watched the series so you would have a clue as to what we're all talking about giving shit to Cloutier...
You know what I'm sayin? In the St. Louis series he played well, but in the Minni series he really sucked ASS! In playoff hockey (especially after round 1) it IS up to the goalie to WIN games. Clout didn't, nuks lost and the season is over.
Think about game seven for a second (if you can forget all the shit before that for a minute...) I really though the nuks really finally got their shit together in the 1st period. They dominated like they usually do, and Tod FINALLY scored a bee-youty goal on a breakaway. 2-0 for the nuks. Happy fans everywhere. Then...
One shitty lucky goal and the game was over. Clout fell apart and didn't keep the puck out WHEN IT MATTERED MOST. That is what the top notch goalies do. Regular season means shit once you get to the playoffs, it's up to the goalie to keep the team's hopes up (as long as someone is scoring...) The goalie cannot let shitty goals in one after another.

Who knows if he will ever have what it takes to really stand on his head when it counts. The only ones that do are the ones that do.

Naslund sucked ass too so it wasn't all Cloutier's fault. But really, someone needed to step up and make something happen. Bertuzzi did that game, the rest of the team just left their socks down...

Now take Giguere for instance. Now THAT is a playoff goalie! He makes saves WHEN IT MATTERS! You think the Ducks would have a chance if Giguere let in 4 shitty goals in a row? Nope. Hell, even if they would have been good or even great goals, he still keeps them out. That's what the nuks need. Someone who can do enough to get them into the playoffs, then turn into some kind of feaked out fucking monster goalie when the pressure is on. Cloutier has yet to show he can do it.

Oh well, there's always next year. They just better make it happen while Linden is still on the team...

And c'mon, let fans vent when they are mad. You know they will be right back cheering first game next year. Last year round 1, this year round 2, next year conference champs or better. At least they are going forward, how long were we all killing ourselves over the Knuckleheads just making the damn playoffs? Now we expect it... and more. Greedy ungrateful fans... yup. - Tue, 13 May 2003 2:07am

well I watched every minute of the canuckleheads in the playoffs. the bottom line is,, clouts is a good goalie, but is not and never will be a great goalie!! anybody who knows anything about hockey knows that the final link in winning a stanley cup is great goaltending. and crazylegs?? I wouldn't exactly say van is notorious for bad goaltending, I wouldn't call sean burke and richard brodeur bad. two great goaltenders, and the only two times they made it to the cup finals!! and the first time they made it there??? they were NOT!!! good, king richard was great!! sure!! you can say that its not clouts fault!! you can say the defense and offence didn't do what they get paid for!! but when the mighty ducks falter, as they often have in these playoffs, that patrick roi clone they have in goal is there to make an amazing save. and vancouvers so called big guns?? bertuzzi and naslund?? have never(and I emphasize never) shown to be proven playoff performers. everybody knows the nhl is a playoff league and what they did in the regular season means diddly squat. if they can't do it in the playoffs then they are just there to collect a paycheck and go golfing when the weather gets nice. and coaching?? crawford is not the guy!! just look at detroit, when bowman leaves, they lose in the playoffs. - Sat, 17 May 2003 2:38am
