Whoa! Cool to see a lotta gray hairs turning up for this one, I'll bet. This should be near-historic with Bill and Jeff on hand! - Sat, 26 Jul 2008 10:41am

Yeah, it's with the "Necroticism..." line-up, minus Ken Owen on drums (who in my opinion would be the weak link if I had to pick one). "Necroticism..." changed my whole perspective on music & is in my top 5 albums of all time. I saw them tour for that album in '92 I think it was, w/Napalm Death, Brutal Truth & Cathedral. Seeing them at the Commodore will f-ing slay!!! - Sat, 26 Jul 2008 11:01am

I was trying to remember the name of that tour & was thinking it was the "Gods of Grind" tour but something about that didn't sound right. I actually think it was the "Campaign For Musical Destruction" tour. - Sun, 27 Jul 2008 10:01am

I would go just to see Rotten Sound and Aborted (again). R.S. are from Sweden and rip so silly it's excruciating. Doubt they'll be out this way again, but then again that's what I thought about Aborted too. Sucks it's on a Monday. - Mon, 28 Jul 2008 8:48pm

I couldn't believe how bad Aborted and 1349 were. Both are bands who've put out some good albums, but Aborted have seemingly gone in the worthless metalcore direction with tons of stupid breakdowns and the singer punching the floor, while 1349 played one of the most boring sets I've ever seen. Fortunately Suffocation came through, but it was nothing in comparison to the masters themselves. Carcass fucking slayed and made sure my 50 bucks were very well spent. Tons of Heartwork/Necroticism material but also a bit of the older grinding stuff, all of which left me beaming. Fuck yeah. - Tue, 23 Sep 2008 8:46pm

Yup, I totally agree with Bryan. Aborted & 1349 were lame. Suffocation were really good, but Carcass absolutely destroyed! The drummer, who I'm told is the Arch Enemy drummer, was flawless & seeing Bill Steer & Mike Amott on stage together again was worth every penny & more.

Here's the songs I can remember them playing (in no particular order); Inpropogation, Incarnated Solvent Abuse, Corporeal Jigsore Quandry, Heartwork, Death Certificate, No Love Lost, a couple from "Swansong" which I'm not all that familiar with & a few from "Symphonies of Sickness". (Buried Dreams may have been in there as well)

Alot of the "Heartwork" songs started with riffs from "Symphonies..." Anyone else remember any other songs they played? Very, very good show!!! - Wed, 24 Sep 2008 6:45am Edited: Wed, 24 Sep 2008 6:54am

We got there in time to hear Aborted's last song. Did nothing for me. Same with 1349, but I've spoken with people since then who seemed into them. whatever.

I was frustrated last time not being able to hear enough separation during Suffocation, but this time I caught every last squeal. Just brilliant - so happy to have finally gotten my share, damnit!

And Carcass... words cannot express. I just feel so lucky, and even luckier that so many of us here got to be inspired by that set. I expected a lot, but was still just floored at how amazing that experience was... yeah, STILL beaming!

Origin, Suffocation & Carcass in the same wknd - HA!!!!

I just wish someone had told Carcass that a lot of the crowd couldn't make out what he was saying. Lack of crowd response comes off like we're all seriously stoned, haha.
What was he saying?

And chanting Carcass at the end while watching one being gutted was effectively chilling.

Still hurting/have bruises and it's Friday..

I really enjoyed seeing 1349. Their sound wasn't that great but it could've just been a bad night? Maybe I was just happy to hear Riders of the apocalypse... Or wasn't getting beat up as much as I was during Carcass. - Fri, 26 Sep 2008 12:41pm

By the sounds of it 1349 were just as horrible sounding when they played with Celtic Frost in Vic...

I've heard the same from other people that have seen them in the past in other cities... - Sat, 27 Sep 2008 7:42am

I only caught two songs from Aborted and it was all I needed as they aren't really my thing. Didn't hate it though, just not into it.

1349 on the other hand sucked sucked SUCKED. Bass too loud, guitar too low, boring vocals, and absolutely horrible drumming. The timing of the drums were off constantly. I wandered around the venue trying to find a spot where the sound was decent but I think that spot only existed at home listening to the album (with Frost drumming). Extremely dissapointing.

Suffocation were amazing. I haven't listened to them since "Pierced from Within" and I'm kicking myself for not doing so because the recent material is just so good. Their vocalist was a great frontman too; he had a great presence and energy. Lots of smiles, "machine guns", and good natured posturing. A nice change from posturing that I myself and guilty of. I promise to be nicer at our next show, I swear.

CARCASS. Words cannot describe how much I enjoyed their set. It was like seeing the Beatles for me. To see the group that got you into your life long obsession in the first place is not something everyone gets a chance to do. If they didn't play every song I wanted to hear they played the main riff from it. They also jazzed up the solos and drums just enough to make it sound current. If Ken could still drum and they recorded Necroticism again, his drumming would probably sound like that. That's alot of words for something I said I couldn't describe with words.

On a personal note, I hate Bill Steer even more now because not only are his vocals and guitar skills unbelievable, but he looks like he hasn't aged a day in 15 years. Bastard. - Sat, 27 Sep 2008 1:18pm

Having 1349 on this bill makes as much sense as having "Bloody Betty" doing her lame act during local shows here. Why were they playing along side 4 death metal bands exactly???

I've only seen them 1 time, at the Celtic Frost show. They were shockingly bad. Would they be signed to Candlelight if they "hailed" from Kentucky, and not Oslo?

Dark Funeral and Marduk were playing that same boring style of black metal 12+ years ago. It was bland back then, it remains bland to this day.

Apologies for the rant, continue with the review. - Sat, 27 Sep 2008 6:38pm

Carcass! Fucking unbelivable! The other bands were, in order, meh, pretty bad, really good. Then CARCASS took the stage. Heavy on the Heartwork and Necroticism, they fucking slayed. That was a killer show, well worth the $50 plus ferry and $7 hiballs and $4 bottles of water.

"like seeing the Beatles", lol, true. - Sat, 27 Sep 2008 8:13pm

Thanks for reminding me "the timing of the drums were off constantly" - SO TRUE! I remember thinking it must be me because how is that possible when a band's on tour (in that kind of company) and playing together constantly!?
I also remember asking people what exactly made them black besides the paint? It didn't seem to make sense.

Anyway, still cannot believe I got to see Carcass IN 2008 play a show that I'll refer to forever. - Wed, 1 Oct 2008 10:39pm Edited: Wed, 1 Oct 2008 10:40pm
