ML7Mike Well, after we played a great show at Burnside Elementary to 200+ kids ( thanks Scott! ) we headed up to Thursdays to catch 3 Inches Of Blood.

Got there in time to see the last few Scanners songs, so cant really say much as I was probably in the beer lineup. Then STREETS came on.. Pretty good band, they kept the crowd going, and it seemed to me that they got better during the last 3 or 4 songs, or maybe they saved their best songs for last.. I couldnt really see them, even though I was 6 feet from the stage.

3 Inches Of Blood.. well they were damn good. Been hearing so much about them lately, apparently they are creating quite the buzz. I can see why! Classic old school metal at its finest, but with heavy vocals added in and no cheesy spandex. Very tight, and lots of prescence, again, they kept the mosh going strong throughout. And I climbed onto a table so I could actually watch the band... But thats Thursdays for ya, worst sightlines in town! - Sun, 27 Oct 2002 12:03pm

FROMAGE! - Sun, 27 Oct 2002 12:58pm
Jesse Fucking rights. STREETS ripped it up in Nanaimo, by far the most entertaining band i have seen in awhile, Fucking Hilarious. I'd originally gone to see 3" but I think Streets totally stole the show. 3" ripped it up too, but a bit TOO Maiden for me. The sound guy at the cambie that night is a fucking idiot as well, im sure that didnt help out. - Tue, 29 Oct 2002 2:55pm

Soundguy responding to Ami's "I LOVE POL POT" sticker: "Dude, I love pot, too!"

Most of the people at the Cambie seemed rather unaffected by the bands, which was disappointing, because STREETS played like fucking maniacs and 3IOB was tight and great as usual.

Areo just a question, Jay Watts: The "I love Pol Pot" sticker is ironic? Pol Pot murdered millions of people, yet some asshole wears a sticker for kitschy fun? Obviously no one loves Pol Pot- yet were is the humour? Maybe I'm way out of line, but I'm just wondering. - Wed, 30 Oct 2002 3:37am

Anonymous I'm still laughing about the "dude, I love pot too" comment. hoooooboy. I don't usually laugh out loud towards my computer, but man! - Wed, 30 Oct 2002 1:38pm
ML7Mike Seen the shirt with Jesus down at Olde Nicks? He is standing there with his palms outstretched and he says "Got Nails?"

Yeah. They should make a Pol Pot shirt. And an Idi Amin shirt for some ethnic variety, maybe a Milosovich or Mugabe shirt for the modern look.

people from Victoria are too sensitive ( as usual ) - Wed, 30 Oct 2002 3:39pm

I am a bourgeoisie fuck. I'd wear the Idi Amin shirt. That illiterate bastard was a cannibal.

These are all completely shameful ideas/shirts, and I'd never wear them in front of my mother, but nonetheless, sometimes one has to mock the conditions that the rest of humanity live in, and that we are free from. - Wed, 30 Oct 2002 3:43pm
ML7Mike Some yuppy accosted me in a KFC once because of my Dead Jesus "Fuck The Skull Of Christ" shirt. I wonder if the demon fucking a skeletal christ on the cross in the head picture had anything to do with his attitude. :D - Wed, 30 Oct 2002 7:38pm

It could have, but I personally think it's funny as shit!! - Thu, 31 Oct 2002 2:22pm
Areo Thats really funny shit. Okay the KFC thing is funny- but Pol Pot isnt funny. Would "I love Hitler" be ironically funny? Mass Murder isnt funny.

What if my father was killed by Pol Pot? I know several Cambodians who fled that regime. - Thu, 31 Oct 2002 10:15pm

It's all funny until you realize the actual implications of expressing such sentiments. - Fri, 1 Nov 2002 10:45am
ML7Mike I think it is funny in a "stir up peoples emotions" kind of way. But if somebody were wearing a Pol Pot shirt to glorify Pol Pot that would be different. guess it is up to the wearer to decide how to wear it.

But what about all these commie punks with Mao Tse Tung busts all over everything? I mean Mao killed what, 7.5 mill in the war, 8.5 mill after the war and another 27 mill starved to death! Would you accost them at shows? Do you go to an AK-47 gig with a protest sign? I mean cmon.. its all in context right? - Fri, 1 Nov 2002 11:45am

Ohh, to answer a question posed earlier, yes, "I Love Hitler" would be ironically funny, because it's quite obvious that the person didn't love Hitler, therefore it's IRONIC that she or he would express this sentiment on a shirt and not actually hold it. IRONY.

It would not be IRONIC if they did love Hitler. - Fri, 1 Nov 2002 1:25pm

However... if they loved Hitler, adn wore an "I hate Hitler" shirt, that too, would be Ironic. - Fri, 1 Nov 2002 4:55pm
Adrenaline Animal It's like raineeeeain on your weding day............... - Fri, 1 Nov 2002 7:14pm
Areo Technically "I love Hitler" would be ironic if the person didn't like hitler- But to say that that is funny is something else.

Humour is subjective, but to wear a shirt using Hitler (or Pol Pot) as novelty isn't really very funny. Anyone who knows someone who has died knows that you could never laugh about it. "ha ha ha... cancer!". Or for that matter- "I Love Cancer"

As far as Mao goes, its a judgement call. He arguably brought the country a long way- reducing poverty and saving lives. But as far as Pol Pot goes- no one could say that he was in any way good. - Fri, 1 Nov 2002 9:15pm
Areo qoute :"Maybe Ami actually likes Pol Pot. Who are we to judge? -"

Irony is so tired. But if this person likes Pol Pot, or says they do ironically, they're all mixed up and should maybe learn a thing or two. Pol Pot isn't Lenin, or even Charles Manson. - Fri, 1 Nov 2002 9:31pm

he did what hitler wouldnt even do though
and thats kill his own people without a second thought

well thats considering hitler didnt think of jews as germans. - Fri, 1 Nov 2002 11:19pm
the gleamer I think we're missing the point. Irony is dead! no humor is ever allowed to come from that flogged carcas again. After recent world events I think it poiniant to note how taking humor from pol pot and hitler is just to outrageous to consider. We live in a free and democratic society so people can say whatever they please as long as it doesn't infringe on other people. who's to say what infringes, not me, I don't know who but being Ironic is definitely no longer funny.
Now if you'll excuse me I have a few episodes of friends stored up on my Tivo. - Sat, 2 Nov 2002 2:29am
Anonymous No gleamer I think you are missing the point, this thread is about a 3", Streets show, I had to work that night but from what I heard it was one kick ass show. - Sat, 2 Nov 2002 4:45am
Gleamer I was there. It was great, I almost didn't go cuz someone told me STREETS was stuck in nanaimo but they got they just in time and it was good. Three inches of blood are cool but I can't deal with over 3 minutes of a true metal headman scream. Scanners ruled. - Sat, 2 Nov 2002 12:30pm

Anonymous Mao killed more than Hitler, pol pot & Stalin combined. Yet it's still all right for some trendy maoists to sport their shirts just because his killing was less sensicle & towards his own. He took the country out of starvation & saved lives- seems you've been reading the wrong books-possibly his autobiography. I read the downing street years & didn't learn what actually happened, just what Thatcher saw from inside her posh mansion. I wish I seen 3'. - Mon, 4 Nov 2002 10:44am

How about an "I Have Cancer" shirt? Then on the back have "Haha, Made You Feel Bad For Me. Sucker.". Might as well go the extra mile while people are being sensitive saps about everything.
And yes, I have had some people close to me die from cancer. They maintained their sense of humour throughout even with that terrible disease killing them slowly. So for those of you who don't have it, lighten up. - Tue, 5 Nov 2002 7:05pm
