East Sooke RocknRoll Fest
User Info...
Okay, due to an unfortunate naming accident, you may confuse us with the Sooke Fest which at one time had Barney Bentall at it.

We are not.

We are now East Sooke RocknRoll Fest or EastSFest for short. Last year, as you may have heard, it went down July 27th.

This year, it will be July 26th.

We're looking for an eclectic mix of bands. This will not be a one genre show, so if you have a problem with other genres of music or peoples, best you skip it.

If you know what it's all about and would like to play, please email [email protected] with info and links to mp3s. PLEASE include these links.

If you did not hear about it, it is a free outdoor weekend show with a bunch of bands from around the West Coast (incl. Van, Seattle, Portland). The show ran Sat to Sun with camping, etc, on about 10 acres nestled into the edge of East Sooke Park. You should know that the show *** DOES NOT PAY ***. No one is making any money off this. Us folks putting it on sure as hell aren't making any. Last year, we only lost just over $200.00, though, so that's pretty good.

We could charge for tickets, but figured: fugg it. Keep it free for people to come.

Also, please don't worry if we do not get back to you IMMEDIATELY. It may be even up to a week before we get back to you because we all work and do other stuff, too.

Thanks.
Grayson et al.

Brainzzz I think it's good someone is attempting a summer jam on the Island but you should consider charging some money and you might get some good bands, I could help as well and Iknow of a few good bands that would be into it of course you'd need a permit unless we kept it underground which could be better. I'll send you an email and you should call me if not, good luck! - Thu, 17 Apr 2003 1:51am
Anonymous why don't you have little donation buckets by merch tables etc...with money going to help the bands for travel etc..anyone who appreciates the music would have no problem putting in a few bucks... - Thu, 17 Apr 2003 6:01am

It's not about the money dude!

Anyhow I'd love to play Grayson, with at leat one of my bands. Speaking of bands, is the Gland Factor still together? I hope so, but if not, and you have some free time and want to drum, would you want to drum for my new band? We are called Lake Boat. Drop me a line, or an e-mail, or something. - Fri, 18 Apr 2003 11:48am

Ya. Money... we're not charging entrance - it makes it more a party than a 'show'. If bands can't make that, we understand, but that's how it is sometimes...

JRS: You say you heard me drum? And would still want me to drum for ya?! The Gland Factor does indeed plan to play this years ESRnRF and I promised I'd be faithful, eh?

Hi Marx,

As noted in the first post, it will be a little while before we get back to folks... everything's gotta go by the Submissions Board, and I'm sure you know how slow bureaucracy can be...

Anonymous sooke is a great place to party. Went to a party and met Joe Schmo, and a crazy mofo with a shaved head. Lots of rails and booze was consumed. Cheers. - Tue, 22 Apr 2003 9:16pm
Anonymous what bands are going to play so far? - Sun, 27 Apr 2003 3:38am
ESRnRFest The line-up is in no way solidified, so you'll just have to hold your horses 'till late June for that, okay?

oooo...GMan, my life since last year's fest has been just getting stoked for this year's. Lots of kids in Van have been talking about this for ages. My only concern is that too many people will come and it'll be a bust. Seriously, for every person that I know from Vancouver that went last year, there are probably three that have already promised to go. How about a sauna tent this year to promote nakedness. Wozzle can't do it all alone. - Thu, 19 Jun 2003 4:00am

Peter: If you are so worried about a lot of people coming, don't push this thread to the top again!

My response:

Ya, whatever. Any overflow will go directly into the "Dog fight and crowd control" pit that Scott is building just a bit off in the woods. heh hehehh hehhehheh

So, let your friends know about this possibility.

Also, if people you know are planning to bring cars, let them know that they WILL NOT be parking on the site - the nearest parking lot is a 20 minute walk.

It's a lovely 20 minute walk, however.

Did you write that, Peter?

I am not bitter! That is me joking around! There is not *really* any dog and crowd control pit at all - on the contrary!

Please, do not be taking me so serious like too much!

Okay!
PS: Please forgive me!

Yo G, I never knew you cared so much! I must admit it was the "ya whatever" comment that seared the tender underbelly that hides beneath the scaly armour of the dragon that is my ego. Give me strength to slay this beast! With the aid of warrior-brothers such as yourself, the deed is as good as done. I've got a feeling that East Sooke RocknRoll Fest is going to be a love-in. - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 3:56am

Oh thank the lord!

Of course I care, Peter - perhaps I am remiss sometimes in displaying that, but I really really do.

I also agree that ESRnRF is going to be an event that may even eclipse the hippy love of the late 60s.

Well... maybe that's a bit brash.

We're playing in Van on Monday with The Gossip (I think.) I dunno where, right now, but let me know if you would like to come out and we can clear this whole misunderstanding up in person.
