Ode to Willow May 14 2008

The Victoria Police where taken to court for wrongfully handling a DRUNK and unruly 15 year old girl named Willow. The girl was rewarded 60000 dollars! Holy crap!

18 years ago the police handled my little brother who was drunk and unruly. He had a knife and the police shot him dead. Thank GOD, Willow didn’t have a knife eh! Ohhh wait they now use tazers and pepper sprays to subdue out of control drunk people. By the way there was no 60000 dollar settlement in my little brothers case.

I understand some cops are big JOCKS that want to be part of the toughest gang in town… The police force. Not a job for the weak. But it boils down to this fuckin booze that the government sells… it makes some people drunk and unruly! Or it boils down to maybe Willow shouldn’t drink?

I heard Willow on the radio say she didn’t do it for the money. I wonder if she will donate the money to a good cause like a crisis center for women or a youth center for troubled kids??? Probably not but I wonder if she will party tonight!

If we where all good to each other we wouldn’t need the damb COPS.

This chick was probably needing a good tethering. Sometimes teenagers need a lesson in how to handle their drinking so they don't act that way in the future.
Total bullshit.
Sorry to hear of your brother, Ricky. - Thu, 15 May 2008 9:33pm Edited: Thu, 15 May 2008 9:35pm

I don't know what to think about this.

Was she violated? Yes, most definitely.

Was she a drunken teenager. Yes, most definitely.

$60,000? I don't know. On one hand, it could have been $1,000,000, on the other hand, she's lucky they didn't strip her naked, and throw her in a padded cell overnight.

What happened to your younger brother is absolutely tragic.
What city did that happen in? If you don't mind me asking. - Fri, 16 May 2008 12:29am Edited: Fri, 16 May 2008 12:38am

My first thought when I saw this on the news was, "there are far worse things that can happen to a wasted teenage girl".
Was she embarrassed by her treatment? You bet! Was she at least kept safe until sober? You bet!

I think that she may have been treated a bit harshly, and the matron did admit that she wasn't assaulted like she first claimed.

I know that my parents wouldn't have been supporting me in court. They would have given me hell and told me that was my lesson on drinking and dealing with the police.

What a waste of tax dollars. That money should be spent on more tazers to clean up the embarrassing and violent drunks who litter our tourist town.

Edit: Yeah, I'm half joking. But how can that money be justified? Where are they going to get that money from. Homeless shelters? Public transit? Fuck. - Fri, 16 May 2008 11:47am Edited: Fri, 16 May 2008 11:53am

well i think the outcome was great I've seen police handle so many ppl in a shitty way that maybe this will open their eyes a bit and make them realise they need to change their ways of policing ppl. i have witnessed police show up to a argument between two roommates who were a little drunk and loud talking ,within the first min the cops had escalated the loud talking by screaming out orders and being verbally aggressive ,within 3 mins they were physically removing a already moving person out the door but when the person turned and told them to stop pushing so hard he was then driven face first into the ground and handcuffed . police need to be trained on how to talk to ppl and how to calm a situation without aggression if they had been mellow and almost laid back in their approach to these two ppl i think the problem could have been solved without anyone being hurt and a ton of paperwork being done.the problem is over the years the police have gotten away with so much by not policing themselves properly that now even the general public is finding it hard to take their behavior - Fri, 16 May 2008 3:50pm

I just wanted to say not all cops are in your face bullys. I have had to deal with a #1 officer in regards to issues with my family.... and the one evening i stood in my yard discussing an issue (or one of many issues) regaurding my son, the officer was #1. Although The young jock looking cop that he had with him stood there with his arms crossed with that expressionless stare.... but you know what.... I did enough blabbin and that stone cop did crack a smile and a laugh. I even think he licked his lips and winked at me!!! It must have been all my tattoos and my FTW t-shirt!!

trevor corey My little brother was shot in Edmonton. The cop who shot him aparently has never been the same. I forgive him.

Seriously I can't ever imagine beeing a cop. A job where everyone hates you untill they need you. I think they wouldn't have to drive people face first into the ground if everyone would just stay calm. But hey they do have a career presentation on May 22 at 6:00 @ 2881 Nanaimo st in Victoria... maybe beazlbub would like to try to make the difference.

BUT WHAT ABOUT WILLOW!!!! I do realize this kinda treatment is tragic on a 15 year old girl and i hope she can live in peace and happieness... but will she do anything positive with all that money?

again I say Not all cops are bad and i on the other side of the coin NOT ALL PEOPLE WHO DRINK GET UNRULEY DRUNK!

have a good day.... - Mon, 19 May 2008 5:53am

I remember watching Cops this one time when they had to deal with this out of control midget. When he tried to get away the cops didn't tackle him. One of them ran up and punted him like a fucking football. Funniest shit I ever seen on that show \m/ - Mon, 19 May 2008 9:37am

Hey Ricky,

Always means a lot to me to hear what you have to say. That said, it is also hard for me to take much of a side past to go hmmm and think about it all... I often think about political and social concepts, but for the most part thinking is about as far as I get myself. $60k seems a lot, but from what I seen on tv, also looked pretty harsh for a 16 year old girl.. If it was my daughter or sister I would like to see 8 times that applied to anyone who did that to her.

If $60K helps people and more so the police -- to stop and think like I am now, then perhaps less tragic ends may take place such as what happened to your brother. But hoping that is not always enough :-( Also like you said, is she going to party tonight ? only to be back in the news doing whatever she was doing to get herself into that situation ?? And will the next time she or someone like her end up like that, will they be in custody of the very flawed criminal system, or some place else where who knows what will result ??

*sigh* it's just like that dude who got killed in that unfortunate tazer accident. Don't mess with the cops. Don't start tossing computers around in some airport, because you might get tazered and that might maybe kill you. Who knows? Just avoid it. Don't get drunk in public with your dumb teenage friends unless you want to risk going to the drunk tank. Don't start banging on the walls and freaking out in the drunk tank, or you might get tethered to the door/wall/whatever.

There's no tragedy in being tethered to stuff. That's not like punching someone through a phone book, or kicking homeless people in an alley. - Thu, 22 May 2008 1:07pm
