Anonymous This show was like listening to a very long beer commercial. I mean come on 'ohhh ohhh we're gonna rock you??' uhhhh, didn't kiss do that song? I don't know who GN think they are but if they don't want to be the laughing stock of Victoria I would suggest they go back to the drawing board and write some songs that don't sound like rock 101 and spend less time trying to look and act "rock". As for Chinatown, it's always nice when band takes the time and money to come over, so I give them that, but alas they were the generic 'Vancouver' sounding band, not too original but tight and they had great 'rock' hair. If that counts for anything. - Sun, 16 Mar 2003 1:24pm
HANS Well I had a good time. What are your favorite bands to see live? - Sun, 16 Mar 2003 1:59pm
Anonymous I'm not going to get into some band naming thing (go to who's Vic's best band post for that) but I will say that I enjoy bands who are original, trying to sound different, who make me think. Not bands that make me drink beer and nod my hear like an idiot. - Sun, 16 Mar 2003 2:08pm
HANS Why did you go to the show then? I must not have seen you cause everyone there seemed like they were having a good time. - Sun, 16 Mar 2003 2:18pm

i havent seen them live but after listening to their cd they sound pretty original to me - Sun, 16 Mar 2003 7:06pm
David Kopp I thought the show was good. I think the band is developing into more then just a "rock n' roll" band. Their new song, i can't remember what it was called but anyway it was really good. It is definatly a departure from what they usually play. I am excited to hear the new cd. Rocking out is important. - Sun, 16 Mar 2003 10:49pm

GRACE NOCTURNAL,GRACE NOCTURNAL,GRACE NOCTURNAL....

I was listening to wesely willis all day. - Mon, 17 Mar 2003 12:55am
Japanese Air Force Agreed.

I think Grace Nocturnal put on a great show. The fact that they're not a bunch of shit talking fucktards is an added bonus.

I haven't heard the recorded stuff. Is it at Ditch or somewhere? - Mon, 17 Mar 2003 4:34am
mb missed the show since i was chained to my books, but i'm sure it kicked ass as usual. - Mon, 17 Mar 2003 10:44am

Anonymous just give me some of that rock and roll music.
any old way you choose it.
it's got a backbeat you can't lose it.
any old time you use it.
it's got to be rock and roll music.
if you want to dance with me.
if you want to dance with me.

ho hum This is an example of a good review, in my opinion. "Very long beer commercial...", that's funny! (And oh so true!)
It's good because it gives people an idea of what the band is about- Grace Nocturnal is a rock band that sings about rockin' and stuff. It's not a completely negative review because who only want to listen to "very long beer commercial" bands... I don't know, I'd like to read more real reviews and less "amps to eleven kicks ass!!! I know because I'm in the band" style reviews. - Mon, 17 Mar 2003 1:25pm

Adam I did enjoy their set both times I've seen them play, but I have to agree, that "ohhhoohhh we will rock you" line needs to go.. I specifically recall being cheezed out! - Wed, 19 Mar 2003 2:59am
Alex what else?
i haven't seen them yet - Thu, 20 Mar 2003 3:55pm
the strokes am i the only one to see the obvious strokes rip off?isn't that typicall of canadian rock to be at least two years behind the brit - us hype machine.gonna rock me withyour magic gee tar .hunh?the only original aspect i can see is that they are oblivious to what they are outright riping off.whats ther new album gonna be disco rock?thats almost done now.tips for everyone dress up be seen get out there so everyone knows your in a group it might be embarrassing at first but everyones jealous of your ackward coolness.fashion is cool if you start something .not get the latest Q and do yourself like the stars.having fun thats great.making people happy thats even better.doing whatever you can to become that rock star is fucking over.why waste your time appeasing to the masses because it works?write something so og you can barely play it .you know when a song comestogether so easy?could it be cause your borrowing?i know every piece of shit iwrite and record i can tell you who i fucking ripped off never intentionally .it's just obvious that i pucked up something that i liked.musical bile if you will.......fuck you no ones gonna rock me but your momma. - Wed, 26 Mar 2003 11:23am
Daniel I bought the CD and have been to a few shows...what song stylins are they borrowing from the Strokes?
If anything I hear a Rolling Stones influence, The Who, maybe Beatles...I don't hear a garage/new wave sound at all.
Is it because a few of them wear beatle boots? - Wed, 26 Mar 2003 12:03pm
Anonymous the stones who and the b-word are much to kind. - Wed, 26 Mar 2003 12:20pm

if u think they sound like the strokes tehn its becasue they likr the strokes, maybe they are influenced by them. i saw them at the concert in vancouver last october. - Sun, 30 Mar 2003 1:23am
Brian they don't sound anything like the strokes. The only thing like them is the drummer looks exactly like the singer of the strokes. they sound more like MC5 then they do the strokes. - Sun, 30 Mar 2003 2:46pm
Anonymous Brian, it is clear that you don't know much about music. MC5 were experimental, they didn't play polished rock tunes, they jammed their songs out in a wall of beautiful chaos, GN do none of that, Strokes do none of that, which is fine but do a little research before making such statements. Listen to GN drumbeats, same as the Strokes. I mean fuck they even stole lyrics from the Strokes. They try to look like the fucking Strokes. One difference in fairness to the GN guys, they put a lot of energy into playing live while watching the Strokes is like watching cardboard cut-outs while the CD plays, which means they're a tight band but MOVE a bit! - Mon, 31 Mar 2003 2:37pm
Brian Obviously you haven't hear the album, or seen any of their shows. There is two drum beats that sound a little bit strokes-ish, and the rest is totally original.Do the strokes play psychaedelic music? hell no. You should do a little bit more research before you slag, you tool. - Mon, 31 Mar 2003 4:00pm
Anonymous OK Brian, Grace Nocturnal are about as psychaedelic as AC/DC are a Bee Gees cover band. I know this because yes I have heard them and seen them live. Obviously I wouldn't be posting things on here if I don't have a clue what I'm talking about (unlike some people). Better lay off the LSD dude before you make an even bigger ass of yourself here. - Mon, 31 Mar 2003 5:34pm
Anonymous I happen to know grace nocturnal have a space echo.( that's pshycedelic) - Mon, 31 Mar 2003 7:18pm
Anonymous buy a fucking dictionary - Tue, 1 Apr 2003 4:19am
Anonymous Please stop, do everyone a favour Brian, and get your foot out of your mouth and stop talking about things you know nothing about. Having a space echo doesn't change the fact that they are a strokes wannabe band! - Tue, 1 Apr 2003 10:36am
Brian what band are you in again? - Tue, 1 Apr 2003 11:35am

are you saying that "kick out the jams" isn't a polished rock song? I bet you don't own any MC5 albums. Name 3 songs. - Tue, 1 Apr 2003 8:50pm
Anonymous I thought "Grace Nocturnal" was a type of soap or something... - Tue, 1 Apr 2003 10:03pm
Anonymous Dude they have a space echo. - Wed, 2 Apr 2003 1:24am
Anonymous man, if they have space echo they must be psychedelic. - Wed, 2 Apr 2003 4:22pm
HANS Perhaps I'm bias cause they're playing with one of my favorite bands in the world this month: The Soundtrack Of Our Lives!!! but i think Grace Nocturnal has some serious potential, more than most bands i've seen playing around here anyways.
