Arrived right when The Mags were starting. Not the tightest band ever, nor the most original. The vocals were very loud and samey for the whole set. Wasn't really in a punkish mood last night either. The lyrics left something to be desired. Not a bad band but for me would have been better on a different bill on a different night.
Crown The Wolf took the stage and did a mini sound check that turned a lot of heads. You know when you can do that, you are gonna have a great set.
Solid outing once again from CTW. All killer, no filler. Hope they kick ass tonight in Van!
Mongoose had blazing white lights that got on my nerves instantly. I understand that it's great for having good pictures taken, but you have to think of the crowd too. I want to say first that they are all really talented, especially the bassist. Musicianship is first class with Mongoose.
Some advice (not that they'd take it):
Don't over do the powder before you come on stage because it makes you too jittery and jumpy. Rather annoying to watch.
Their songs and vocals didn't do much for me either, but that is a matter of personal taste. I know they have plenty of fans, so my opinion won't mean much in the grand scheme of things. Keep blazing your own trail, Mongoose.
Spread Eagle put on a fist pumpin' show as they usually do. The crowd was engaged from the get-go by the three guitar attack walloping them from the stage. Great songs written in the simpler style of rock. Just what I like these days.
Fun night overall. Thanks for the beer Craig and Lindsay! - Sat, 5 Apr 2008 3:05pm

I'll keep this short and bitter.

The Mags- Bad, even by punk music standards. Sounded like the bass player hadn't picked one up prior to getting on stage.

Crown The Wolf- Great. They've set a standard for heavy rock music in Victoria, along with RLH. Never a disappointment with these guys. How about some merch though. I'd love to have a CD/LP/Shirt... Bronze was great, CTW is greater.

Mongoose- They burst onto the stage. Bright, burning lights illuminate them, and the crowd. My first thought is, can these guys live up to their own delusions of greatness?
Answer is...Nope. Paper thin sound, bland music, and far too many "East Van" hails. And by the way, the black suit/tie look has been done by far better bands, namely The Hives and The Refused. All the energetic, drug induced silliness can't mask the fact that YOUR MUSIC IS BOOOOOOOORING.

Left before SpreadEagleBrand played, eyes burning from the stupid spot-lights of the aforementioned band.

A request to Lucky Bar- Please turn down the music between bands! It's nice to give the old ears a break after 20-30 minutes of live music.

I suppose this review ain't show short after all, but I made sure to leave in the bitter.
