Willard Hi everybody. I'm staying in Victoria for a while and was wondering if there were any other good music/entertainment web sites from Victoria. I know very little about the victoria "scene" so any insight would be cool. Thanks

Willard

Christopher + Troy there's also http://www.secretarcade.com
which, if the people in this town see fit to use it, can be an excellent resource for Victoria while letting the rest of Canada know what is going on here.

Just one question: I moved here from Edmonton in early 1991 and granted every hometown has it's drawbacks and detractors, is Victoria really all that bad? I mean, we've seen some better days. I was astounded at all the great shows (locals and international) I could see during the week and on weekends.
There were pretty fantastic bands and shows at the HellHouse, Gary's Space, Boneheads Teen Club, The Dethpit, Club A Go Go, The Kaktus, the Hump House, and numerous all ages halls and other basement shows and occasionally some other venues.
So anyway, I loved it here and hated leaving Vic for the 14 months I went to Alaska for work, but when I returned in late 1996 everything seemed at a low ebb and it doesn't seem like things have fully recovered. Wha'ppened? Zines dried up. Local labels dissipated. And all the bands I loved to see dissappeared.

Did some plague hit our Garden City?

I have noticed some recovery over the last 2 1/2 years but it has been a slow one. Does anyone have any theories on this? Pedantic pontifications? Blame? I'm reading the 'old days' thread and can't believe what a different face Victoria has.
I was in Moncton, NB, eight weeks ago and I saw a Shiner (Slow To Burn Rec.) 7", Drone (Vinyl Communications)7", Vinaigrettes (Incentive) tape, and Pressure Cooker (Stinkin Agnes Rec.) 7", and the store owner was telling me how great they all were - which I already knew.

Please do share your thoughts. If I'm wrong, please tell me so.

I remember telling people and friends in other cities about the bands I'd be seeing in town, and no one even believed it ever. It sure ain't like this now. Is it? - Fri, 14 Mar 2003 7:26pm

I Know! Don't know what type of music you're into but there's some real original stuff that you might like on the website below for a local band with a large following called DIZZY! http://www.feelingdizzy.com

As far as the scene drying up for a while. I'd have to agree. It's making a strong come back I figure. It seems to work in cycles as what's popular usually does.As sad as it was even disco had to die. I'm seeing a trend among alot of young people even at the early teenage years to start shying away from the pop queens and boy divas. It was really reassuring the other day when I saw a 13 year old kid with a couple of his buddies wearing an AC/DC hat. I asked him if he could name three of their albums and he did. Maybe the good old days of R'n'R are coming back. - Mon, 17 Mar 2003 11:36am
