hard to believe i am parting with it, but i am selling my acoustic 370. the amp that redefined bass amplification. jaco used it. led zeppelin used it. fleetwood mac used it. if you're looking for that classic midrange growl you've found it. this baby has character. i've a/b this amp against everything from vintage SVT to modern GK. the only thing i've found i like more is the new markbass, wich i now own and is why i am selling.

last two of these on ebay went for $700, and $500. selling mine for karma for $350. please no thrashheads - jaco would roll in his grave. (no offense)

cheers all

online review:

When you think of classic bass tones, certain sounds come immediately to mind: the heavy metal bottom of John Paul Jones supporting the screech of Robert Plant and the fiery lead of Jimmy Page in Led Zep. The multi platinum pop groove of John McVie in Fleetwood Mac. The lyrical fretless roars and whispers of the late Jaco Pastorius. What do they all have in common? The Acoustic Control 370 amp. Whether it be in a small jazz club or Madison Square Garden, the 370 is a workhorse amp that always put out the beef.

For raw, clean power, the 370 was unmatched in its day and is a forerunner of the SWR and Hartke heads that are now a mainstay of modern music. With the 5 band graphic EQ, they were definitely more versatile than the relatively distorted sounding Ampeg SVT or Sunn Coliseum Bass heads of the 70's.

Often paired with 2 X 15" cabinets with folded horns, the Acoustic 370 shook rafters from hundreds of feet away without the help of modern PA systems. A definite classic.

i am also selling an acoustic transducer 405 (4x12 cab), which works well with the 370 ($300)

i also have a rear-facing 1x18 sound source cab made by rod evans here in victoria back in the 80's. i am undecided, but i may also part with it as it fits the 370 like a glove. ($300) - Sat, 16 Feb 2008 8:43pm Edited: Sat, 16 Feb 2008 9:38pm

Wow! I need a bass amp and this is one of my faves. Cool to see it pop up. I don't have any money yet though, if it's still around in a week or so I'll take it. But I doubt it will last long, even though most musicians are pretty poor. but wow. - Sat, 16 Feb 2008 11:09pm

Hey, I have a 70's Gibson Ripper that I would be willing to trade towards the amp + cash or perhaps straight for the amp/cab. Same with Mactac if your interested. - Thu, 28 Feb 2008 12:21am

ummm...although the 370 is a great amp,
and i know because i've owned one,
jaco used an ACOUSTIC 360, not a 370,
and there's a BIG difference. - Thu, 28 Feb 2008 9:03am Edited: Thu, 28 Feb 2008 9:32am

here's a shot of jaco playing through his (2)acoustic 360 amps. it was a HUGE sound at the time!
i saw him twice at the hollywood bowl, once with weather report and once with joni mitchell.
needless to say, i was blown away!

by the way, musicman, congrats on your purchase of your new
MARKBASS amp! you made a VERY wise choice.
ultra light and super powerful!
you can't go wrong with MARKBASS! - Thu, 28 Feb 2008 9:34am Edited: Thu, 28 Feb 2008 9:40am

370 is sold and has a good new home. sold it with a soundsource cab with a rear-facing 18" celestion in it. damn that's a fine rig.

and yes the markbass is a beautiful thing. versatile, portable, powerful. damn tasty.

as for the 360/370 debate ..... i was under the impression that the 370 was the 360 pre-amp combined with 361 power-amp in one box with extra eq control ...

"From a spectrum shaping point of view, two interesting things are going on in the 360 circuit (a bit like the DYNO-my-PIANO for Fender Rhodes). On the one side, there's the Variamp circuit, a single class-A stage providing a 5-way frequency selectable parametric filter function. Now, unlike modern multi-band eq circuits we see the 360 having a simple one stage circuit which exhibits relatively low "phase mangling" compared to multi-band circuits. I like to look at it like this, what seems lost to modern (continuously sweep-able) op-amp based parametric eq. circuits is gained in old-school class-A fidelity - simple. The 370 runs off a similar circuit but has 5 effect controls, each with a fixed inductor and capacitor value. In relation, the 360 combo is more minimalistic but super effective tonally and dynamically." - Fri, 29 Feb 2008 5:26pm
