Tyler User Info... | This is obviously closing out a lot of genres of music and great artists. I don't get the randomly picked "finalists" in each category. All the non-genre specific music artists are part of the indie rock scene. Seriously, the most promising band in Victoria is Hierophant. You also forgot to include Aidan Knight for the solo act thing. I know it's possible to write in answers but none of those people are going to win. Sigh. - Sun, 3 Feb 2008 12:04pm
amanda@monday User Info... | Hey Tyler, Yeah, we know it's not a perfect system. Trust me, we spend a lot of time agonizing over whose names end up on the ballots. Mostly, we try and base it on who has been active in the scene in the past year (in this case, 2007) by going through old issues and seeing who's been moving and shaking. Who had a lot of shows? Who put out a new record? Who toured? etc. Trust me, it's far from random and we know we can't please everyone, but we try our best to be fair. We also try and include categories that are exclusively write-in... we have several more this year than we did in previous years. The M Awards are always changing and we're trying out best to do what we feel is a good job. In all honesty, when we leave the categories blank we get far fewer responses and there's more potential for vote spamming. Anyway, tomorrow is the deadline for voting, so go to http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=YnX_2fv2MCrSx6FdS79Kq9kw_3d_3d if you want to cast your vote. - Thu, 21 Feb 2008 11:09am
