Okay Vancouver, you need to enlighten me on this. Why are there literally NO all ages metal shows? Do you not see that metal is getting big? Did you see how Amon Amarth SOLD OUT the CCC? There is a huuuuuge all ages market, and nobody is taking advantage of it. We have an all ages venue in Abbotsford, and it fucking kicks ass. The place fills up for every show, because kids get EXCITED about music. Us musicians are like magical heroes to the metalhead misfits and skids in highschool. Seriously, look at this photo I posted...bars rarely, if ever, look this awesome.

250 kids. We made nearly 400 dollars that night on merch alone. Imagine the potential of a vancouver all ages metal scene!

I know seylenn hall is booking shows again, so thats a start, but its still pretty hurting for such a significant city. - Thu, 24 Jan 2008 2:35am Edited: Thu, 24 Jan 2008 2:37am

People haven't gotten along very well here. A couple of years ago there were some cool promoters putting metal, crust & punk together but there was a lot of very vocal resentment. It caused a lot of drama, bad blood and even fighting, and people decided it wasn't worth the hassle. Crust & hardcore shows are still happening and but like everything else in the city, things are very cliquey and segregated. - Thu, 24 Jan 2008 9:50am

Again, another thing I don't understand about the vancouver scene. Whats with the lack of unity?? Is it that hard to respect one another? I think if people were actually able to swallow their pride and elitism, it would be possible to earn vancouver a reputation within the global metal scene similar to Montreal. Maybe I'm just being naive, but I see a whole lot of wasted potential here. - Thu, 24 Jan 2008 11:53am

There was a all ages metal show awhile back with Shores of Tundra and others. It was allright. Good turn out. However a lot of shows in the heavier vein suffer from letting drunk idiots ruin the venue. It just happens. The hardcore scene went out and pushed those kids away so now they have great thriving shows. - Thu, 24 Jan 2008 1:04pm

Why aren't you putting on shows if you want them to happen? You're preaching about how amazing it would be... DIY baby. - Thu, 24 Jan 2008 3:24pm

Try to find a quasi-sizeable scene anywhere that isn't cliquey. It's definitely a lot worse in some places than others, but it's pretty much human nature.

And I agree that if it bothers you so much you should put one on yourself. - Thu, 24 Jan 2008 3:33pm

I do put shows on, in Abbotsford, where I'm from. I definitely would put shows on in vancouver if it weren't for the commute. It just isn't possible for me. I'd definitely be into helping out if someone who actually lives in vancouver wanted to give it a shot. - Thu, 24 Jan 2008 4:52pm

hang in there Sean. All I wanted to do was see bands when I was under 19, and none of the bands I wanted to see seemed to put on all ages shows. Every once and a while I would get in and it was awesome. One day you'll be 19 and you can bring your good energy to any show you like. That's cool that you put on shows where you live. That's more than I was able to do, being a loner and not knowing many people due to moving so much. Victoria has all ages metal shows sometimes, maybe take a ferry over with a buddy and see one sometime. - Thu, 24 Jan 2008 9:18pm

In spite of the calm lately, I sense a pot is being stirred.

tyler, what you want is for CHAOS ASSASSIN to reform and then to play THE BEST SHOW EVER with TENDONITIS.
A girl can dream.

Curmudgeon, why so helpless on the computer? I've approved more than a couple curmudgeonly msgs for you on the board!
I dunno, seems like Jesse's been somewhat domesticated. That era was a while back, 'cept for some one off parties here and there. - Fri, 25 Jan 2008 9:52pm Edited: Fri, 25 Jan 2008 9:55pm

in regards to CHAOS ASSASSIN, check out my equally one-minded, no bass grind band compound terror. we're recording end of the month. http://myspace.com/compoundterror

peruke-blasts, the power of the claw is from within; cannot be taunt, cannot be learnt, can only be.

listening to tendonitis gives my wrists sympathy pains. - Thu, 31 Jan 2008 7:19pm

Intriguing.... I'll be stoked to hear of a Vancouver show.

Duncan had said Tendo was hoping to record by (last) Xmas too so maybe they're done? And yeah, they can play fast (pretty sure D's actually the one who pushes for it), but they used to slow & speed up and work out things in dramatic ways too. Just killed me. - Thu, 31 Jan 2008 10:45pm
