Who enjoyed it? I sure didn't. No encore and a boring seated crowd= no fun. No moshing?
The first half was good but it fizzled at the end. - Sun, 2 Dec 2007 11:25am

i enjoyed it.. and now im gonna rant.
tool dont do encores.. did you need one.. did you feel like they didnt give you enough?.. boring seated crowd.. sure. but im glad i didnt have to stand for however long.. instead of sitting however uncomfortably (in thoose damn arena seats).. no moshing.. k.. try moshing to obscure and changing time signatures.. works geat to a fast 4/4 but when the apes in the front cant keep time with the songs the moshing/headbanging/etc tends to fall apart.. that and youd be kicked out for crowdsurfing and moshing... i found the first half a little more loose and it seemed like they were finding their footings.. 46&2 and flood got me pretty psyched. Tool isnt tool from the 90's they're older they are writting different kinds of songs and they are playing slightly different kinds of shows.. as for pure entertainment value. it was worth my 65bucks.. sound wasnt great.. maynard could have been louder and they could have played eulogy.. but for an arean rock show which is what it is.. I thought it kicked ass.. great lights great songs.. great band.. .. not the best tool show ive been to.. but thats okay.. still better than anything else thats been in the arena so far.. - Sun, 2 Dec 2007 1:14pm

"tool dont do encores.."

Uh, I'm almost positive there was an encore when I saw them in Vancouver last time they were there.

Anyway, I'm extremely glad to have not attended this and saved the money. I've seen them once, and regardless of what anyone says it's clear they're a band who've passed their prime. - Sun, 2 Dec 2007 1:57pm Edited: Sun, 2 Dec 2007 1:57pm

Confiscating phones from your fans who are just trying to capture an image to commemorate their time at your show is a real kick in the nuts. I can't think of any good reason why a band would do this and this kind of pompous, eccentric behaviour is just one reason why I never liked Tool.
Hope most everyone at least felt as though they got their money's worth. - Sun, 2 Dec 2007 2:23pm Edited: Sun, 2 Dec 2007 4:14pm

They had a cop walking along the BRUTAL line up to get in, announcing over a megaphone about this policy, all serious like a prison guard.. After repeating it a few times, even he realized how retarded it was, and his voice cracked with a slight snicker.

I went at the last minute and thought it sucked dog balls.I didnt feel any energy or vibe from this show at all. I have never gone to a concert where the crowd was so still and boring, if you were on some good drugs...might have been allright but from a sober perspective......very boring. And fuck you stupid ass sucked off guards on the street yelling no moshing. no spikes or chains, no num chucks or pistols or guns, cell phones, cameras and so on.....give me a fuckin break! - Sun, 2 Dec 2007 5:52pm

I feel real sorry for the suckers who had to stand in line in the FRONT of the SOFA... we got there, walked to entrance 2, didn't even have to wait in line and walked right in... The sound was good if you were dead centre on the floor (like me and a bunch of other people). Of course its gonna be muffled if your on the side. . O and Maynard was really sick and even cancelled a few shows to recover after last nights show, so we are very lucky that they played.
And why complain that they lost a bet and HAD to play here. Isn't it better that we are actually attracting more then the avril or cher crowd? Everyone complains that no one good comes but hello, last night TOOL, yes TOOL was in Victoria, playing. As for the crowd, Victoria doesn't know how to handle the whole concert experience. Thats due alot of people don't go to them because that means that they have to go to Vancouver and shell out the big bucks. But for those of us who spend the big money and go over once, twice, maybe 5 times a year actually know how to have a good time at a concert and not sit around and be lame ass.

Doesn't matter if people thought the sound was bad, crowd iffy, whatever. Bottom line, we just had TOOL play Victoria... - Sun, 2 Dec 2007 7:57pm

Yeah, sorry, but that's not good enough for me.
Just because they are Tool, doesn't mean they can get away with such a poor quality show.
I "shell out the big bucks", and go to Vancouver all the time. I have seen Tool play AMAZING shows. The crowd wasn't into it because the set list and sound quality was so poor. I kept waiting for "it", other than a few good songs, they lost me. I thought I was going to be upset I couldn't mosh, but the show was not moshible anyway. Last night was just bad. Maybe for many reasons, but it was still bad.
I heard fans in Kelowna were throwing snowballs, and aiming laser pointers at Maynard the whole show. So maybe we payed for that.
Whatever, just another excuse/reason.
I'm seriously glad that so many people enjoyed the show.
I didn't.

I was glad they didn't play an encore.. I hate encores.. you wait around for 10 minutes listening to the crowd scream and yell and you start getting impatient when the band takes forever...

I thought this concert was awesome. Unfortunately the vocals weren't very clear.. Maynard's voice is one of the main reasons I heart Tool so.. yeah..

Besides the great lighting and background, I think the reason why I liked this concert so much is because Tool got me through a lot of shit that was happening about a year or so ago. Aenima is like a life saver to me. It was just really cool to see a band I wasn't quite sure I'd ever see live.

Anyways, I liked the concert.. I've never seen Tool before so I can't really compare it to any other of their performances.

Sucked that there wasn't any moving around.. but with the Nazi security there would be no chance.. I was really hoping there would be general admission tickets but sadly there was just floor and bowl.. sucky..

bryan.. they dont do encores. In vancouver last time they played the same set that the played the night before and the night after.. its just the audience in vancouver was so loud that they took a break between songs to let the crowd die down.. no extra songs were added to show.. that was the closest they've come to an encore(that i know about). anyways.. you're all a bunch of whiny bitches.. you should have known what you were getting yourselves into.. and nothing that you've complained about has anything to do with the actual quality of entertainment that you received.. no chains or crowd surfing.. shit that must have made the show suck... no camera phones damn.. that really reduced the amount of fun i could have.. yeah and everyone else not having fun.. that had a huge effect on men not having fun.. - Sun, 2 Dec 2007 10:10pm Edited: Sun, 2 Dec 2007 10:10pm

Steve, you have no right to call me a bitch. I am a connoisseur of music and live shows, and I am most definitely entitled to my opinion.
Just so you know, I could care less about taking cell phone pics of Tool or any other band, but the fact that they would prohibit me from doing so says allot about their character.

What is wrong with you people? I'm just glad we get to have differences of opinions....cause I disagree with you party poopers...you nay sayers.....I totally enjoyed myself....but then again I didn't go into it with any pre-concieved notions or have any particular expectation around the show.....so hence I was pleansantly surprised.

Tool has always been a self indulgent band....if you enjoyed it...great...if not....oh freakin' well!

Will admit the vocals were slightly buried....but that drummer......*wow*....the lights, the silhoulettes that Maynard created.......AWESOME!!

Yah I had a good time. The laser show alone was worth the ticket cost. We had a good section, no hassles over the non stop joints! For sure the vocals were quite muddy but then again SOFA isnt reknowned for its amazing sound. Not sure why they were so worried about camera phones, my Razr takes a good picture for about 6 inches and anything farther away than that looks like crap anyhow. ALl in all I had a good time, but then again I was drinkin some of Pete's moonshine at the pre-party :)

I coulda spent $80 on alot of less fun things to do on a Saturday in Victoria.. - Mon, 3 Dec 2007 12:00pm Edited: Mon, 3 Dec 2007 12:02pm

I thought the gig was great barring the low-in-the-mix vocals, which really aren't what gives me wood when listening to Tool.

It's the rhythm textures between bass and drums and the guitar tones that make/made me cream my jeans.

From a sober perspective, it was great and the light/screen shows were the icing on the cake. I was thinking Pink Floyd for a while there.

Cheers!

Wine Gums I believe.

I really don't get why people complain about "crowds sucking"; it's as if you're constantley looking around you seeking for other's permission to have a good time. Personally, I just stood there, with some minor headbanging, and had a great time. I was half way up the balcony right side half way to the stage and I thought the sound was perfect, sure the vocals were a bit quiet but that's sort of what I expected. I read in an Adam Jones interview how they like keeping the vocals at the same volume as everything else, treating it like any other instrument. His voice wasn't overbearing but I could still pick him out clearly and his voice was spot on.

PS Trans Am was really cool; any band that uses two basses in one song is cool in my books. I was kinda peeved how they didn't advertise an opening band. I thought it was Tool solo, otherwise I would've gotten there earlier, plus they're a band that should be recognized. - Tue, 4 Dec 2007 10:35pm

Regarding the many "no pictures- fuck you Tool"s in this topic... It's quite often the case with a major band that pictures are incomprehensibly forbidden at shows.

Instead of blaming the band, don't you think that the band's management/record label/tour promotor has more say in that? I think many bands wouldn't really give a fuck, it seems to me that the bozos behind them would enforce such rules. Why? No idea...as a courtesy to press photographers who get prime spots? Doesn't make a lot of sense.

I'd like one of those bozos to step forward some time and explain what the rational and justification behind it would be. - Wed, 5 Dec 2007 4:41pm

At Weird AL's concert he encouraged everyone to use their camera phones. Altough after looking at the crap ass pictures I took from his show I don't know why some people are so pissed off at not being able to use them at Tool. Where you planning on taking some quality photos from 200 feet away? Yes I get it, it's about the principal...
And I had a great time at the show, no expectations going in, Ialthough Maynard was a little dead for me, but other than that it was good times. - Wed, 5 Dec 2007 10:33pm

I was told that even companies who hold contracts with SOFA and as a result get 'priority' ticket sales were nixed by Tools management.. So on one hand they werent allowing cameras, but on the other hand dozens of best seats in the house werent sold before hand to some company with ties. - Thu, 6 Dec 2007 11:41am

I work at a local newspaper and this was all Tool's policy, believe me...

There were no photographers of any kind, including accredited press and the house photog for the SOFMC. There were also no review tickets. We paid for ours when we haven't been required to by any band in a decade or more.

Though I categorize it as complete bull/egomania, I respect the band's decisions because they believe they are doing so for the betterment of the show and to the advantage of its fans. Are they succeeding? Don't think so. - Thu, 6 Dec 2007 6:38pm

i saw tool in Everet as well as victoria and each show was fantastic, maynard admitted to being sick and still played a wicked fucking show. in everet as you tool fans fans know that went to both shows was fucking awesome\it was the SOFA that sucked the life out of the band. everet was wild and on the brink of being outta fukin control, cell phone cams were fine.blame sofa for their tight ass security precautions.

and to those who just saw loot FUK LOOT a disrespectful bastardization of the biggest thing to hit the music scene in a very long time ,

the asshole on stage thought he was better than tool ,some tribute band ,if he would shut up for a minute and pay respect maybe he could call himself a tribute band ,,
