I'm posting this hoping someone may hear of this. My buddy had his car broken into on the gorge and someone stole his amp.
Original 1965 Fender Blackface deluxe reverb. Not a reissue there are some identifying things about the amp.

#1 in 65 there is no word fender in chrome on the grill (only year)
#2 Blackface meaning the control panel is black not chrome.
#3 It has a vox bulldog speaker

This was was stolen from a working musician with kids. No insurance and no day job. Shitty.

It also used to be mine which pisses me off.

No questions asked if you hear of this amp, contact me and you will recieive good karma and a reward. - Wed, 5 Mar 2003 11:07am

Stealing other people's gear is fucking lame. I hope the shit-for-brains returns it but good luck on that one...

Now there is nothing wrong with stealing from a company, yeah it hurts them too but nothing like taking a man's only amp!

Got a funny story for ya while you wait...

A friend of mine lent his bike to my roomate who kept it locked up outside our house. The lock was cut and it was stolen (duh!). My buddy got a call from the police about two weeks later saying they found his bike. Amazing huh! But get this, the moron who stole it (who had his apartment raided) put top-of-the-line new forks on it, and some other goodies. So my buddy only lost his bike for two weeks but got some nice upgrades for free. No doubt the parts were also stolen though...

Anyways... the point is DON'T STEAL FROM OTHER PEOPLE, only stores... - Wed, 5 Mar 2003 12:08pm

Please say you're not serious! What differentiates stealing from people or stores? They're one and the same. Is this anti-institutionalism just for the sake of it? - Wed, 5 Mar 2003 1:19pm

Serious... pretty much. My point is, people are going to continue to steal no matter what I say. So I guess there isn't any point me saying anything about it at all.

But, stealing something from an individual causes much more harm than stealing the same thing from a store.

It's not anti-institutionalism and I don't recommend anyone to steal from anywhere. But, stealing an item from a store, is the equivalent of you losing a quarter. Stealing an amp from an individual, is like ripping out an entire department from a store. Ouch.

I still hope that person gets their amp back... - Wed, 5 Mar 2003 1:21pm

stores have theft insurance. i don't. except in my house of course. besides, I don't think anything i have for gear wasn't stolen at one point somewhere down the line. cheaper. - Wed, 5 Mar 2003 1:26pm
PIMP bbjones, nice therory.
its sorta true. but make sure the store is not a local guy who has put his heart and soul and money into trying to make a living.
that said. if people bring me stolen shit for drugs, i don't take the stuff that was stolen from homes or cars, the karma is way bad on that shit. it you bring me something from a store still in the box, well it just feels better.

the sad thing about that amp is, someone probably traded it for some blow or smack. probably about fifty dollars worth of dope.the dealer will sell it to some guy who can't even play guitar, and that guy will put a KIZZ sticker on it, and that will be sad. - Wed, 5 Mar 2003 1:28pm

Stealing is wrong period. Not all companies can afford to be ripped off, and besides, it only makes it worse for people who are prepared to pay for things honestly. - Wed, 5 Mar 2003 1:46pm

that's all true. but i think we all know where most of the stolen shit comes from....these days i just buy shit from other dudes (usually on here) who are upgrading. who has the dough (or credit rating) to buy brand new shit anyway? not me. - Wed, 5 Mar 2003 1:59pm
Anonymous "bbjones, nice therory.

Local or not, it's still stealing from someone who put effort into providing us with opportunity to purchase it. If you like a particular item than show some respect and cough up the bucks. Not only is it the right thing to do but it will also help to insure that products you enjoy will keep being provided to you. - Wed, 5 Mar 2003 2:48pm
Anonymous sorry to hear about the break in... it always sucks when shit is stolen... regardless if your a big company or a regular joe on the job...
hope ya find'er... sounds pretty identifiable too...
good luck - Wed, 5 Mar 2003 3:42pm
FANG haha buying stolen shit is sooooooo dumb... if i saw someone playing an axe at a show that was stolen from me i wouldnt hesitate to beat him with it mid set!!! that shits personal...its like kidnapping someones kid- except way worse. - Wed, 5 Mar 2003 5:05pm

I don't feel sorry for your friend unfortunately. Leaving your amp in your car is just asking for some junkie or kid to rip it off.
Put in a bit of effort and take your gear into your residence.
Expensive lesson learned. - Wed, 5 Mar 2003 6:28pm

One rule of thumb I try to follow is NEVER leave any gear in a car in public view. If you can't get it in the trunk then cover it with a blanket or something. If you're on the road and you have to leave your gear in the van it's wise to have the band members take turns sleeping in the van. I've lost count of how many bands I've heard of that had their whole tour collapse because all their gear got ripped off. I don't take anything irreplaceable on the road either; I just finished building a guitar for about $80 that rocks but if it's stolen I don't care; I'll just make another one. The stress of keeping care of a valuable instrument on tour takes a lot away from the fun of touring, so I keep my touring gear expendable. That amp will turn up somewhere; it's too much of an oddball to just melt into the woodwork. Good luck. - Thu, 6 Mar 2003 12:03am
Anonymous Check all the local pawn shops, leave a discription with them, so they know when it arrives. Also report it to the police so when it does show up at a pawn broker, you will have a better chance of getting the damn thing back. - Thu, 6 Mar 2003 12:13am
Anonymous I wouldn't suggest leaving a desription at a pawn shop, it'll more than likely end up in the back. This happened to me with a bass and we found it in a pawn shop and went to the cops and got it back. I would just regularly check them and odds are it'll turn up. It might take a while because they put "buy it outright" items away for a while, maybe till the heat dies down. - Thu, 6 Mar 2003 12:28am

gibson more info on Sheppard Ashmore and anyother insurance places that will touch band gear, please!
. i've been looking for years and the only option i have found is joining the the musicians union. the charge $150/year union dues but they get a group rate on instrument insurance, it used to be $2.25/$100 worth of gear per year. - Thu, 6 Mar 2003 2:42pm
Anonymous Yes, i'd like to hear about anyone's experiences with insurance agents as well please. If anybody is interested, I found this site: http://www.ibabc.org/index.html . It's an insurance association of BC with contacts for a lot of insurance agents. - Thu, 6 Mar 2003 2:53pm
Anonymous i found that most insurance companys won't cover music gear , unless you just own a guitar and a amp ( for example) and it never leaves your house.
they won't cover a touring band at all. to much risk and to much chance of fraud. you know us slimmy band guys living on KD and dope. hahaha. - Thu, 6 Mar 2003 3:55pm
sue We had our home broken into a few years back and had some gear stolen. We found out that our insurance company wouldn't pay for gear stored out of the house "ie, your jam spot". They also, as a loophole, won't insure it if you play in a band that has made money. They said that because the gear had been used to make money that meant that they could classify it as "business equipment" and not have to pay under the house insurance. We argued that 3 shows in one year hardly counted as a business. So, if you ever have to claim gear, say it's for personal use only.
We too investigated insuring the gear seperately and found the same thing, hubby would have had to join the musicians union...uh, no thanks. - Thu, 6 Mar 2003 4:39pm
Spark Man, never steal musical equipment unless it's from a highschool. Shit, they end up selling the stuff down the line anyways to "help the budget" - Thu, 6 Mar 2003 4:55pm

i no tell you who i am Shephard Ashmore. Located in Vancouver. [email protected] c/o Scot Simmons . They insure from garage band to Bryan Adams, KD Lang etc.

We have insurance on $20 000 worth of gear , AND 1 million liability on our jamspot, gear coverage ANYWHERE in the world, from a club, van, hotel room, airplane, basically covered against everything except Terrorism or War, ( so no Iraq tour! ) $500 deductible, and it costs approx $650 per year.. remove the 1 million liabilty and it'll be about half that amount. - Fri, 7 Mar 2003 7:09pm
PIMP any of you little theives check in to the cost of insurance these days. we wouldn't need to spend thousands a year on theft insurance if it wasn't for drug addict theives like yourselves.
some stores can't afford theft insurance cause the cost is to high. thats why at my store if you steal from me. we beat you with a bat and take you out to the woods for the cougars to lick the blood off your gaping gash. same thing happens if you ask for change in front of my store. - Sat, 8 Mar 2003 2:16pm
