The Cramps (up until their "Stay Sick" album) have been my favorite band for the past 22 years. To me, they were everything a punk-rock band should be...and they turned me unto two decades of pre-punk music that I probably wouldn't have discovered for years, without them. Because of the Cramps, I was scouring my parents old records for killer 60's garage and early Rockabilly records, at the same time I was buying punk and hardcore records. They also tought me the importance of a little noise in music. Bryan Gregory and Kid Congo Powers guitar bits were just as essential to the Cramps as Ivy's. I'll admit it...I haven't pulled out a Cramps record in a few years (even though I used to have about 75 of 'em)...and it saddens me to see what they've become over the past 15 years...but they are still my fave. - Tue, 16 Oct 2007 8:23pm

I like the Scorpions. If I had to pick one band as the most influential on me that would be it.

I love so many bands (Misfits, Black Flag, TSAR, Led Zeppelin...)
but there is one band that is at the the top that all other bands should be measured by:

The Beatles. - Wed, 17 Oct 2007 9:01am

Tossup between Bauhaus and Siouxsie and the Banshies. They were, and still are, major influences for me. Started listening to them in highschool (79-80) and their music just doesn't get old for me. Was lucky enough to see Bauhaus' 25th anniversary tour, in Vancouver a couple years back. I can now die a happy man. - Wed, 17 Oct 2007 10:43am

Great question. It was Jimi Hendrix that made me and still makes me want to play music any time I hear those records.

Strange as it seems, though, Green Day I think is the one band that's influenced me in so many ways. To have seen them at the Beacon Hill band shell for the first time back in '91, loved the music, bought the compilation CD from the singer and had a few beers with them to discover they were really cool guys, certainly was a huge influence and still drives me to write, play and tour (where possible). - Wed, 17 Oct 2007 10:44am

the wall? masterpiece of the century? i think not. more like comfortably dumb.

this is the greatest single lyric since the cretaceous–tertiary extinction event, never mind the last century:

I like your pants around your feet
And I like the dirt that's on your knees
And I like the way you say please
While you're looking up at me
You're like my favorite damn disease

"favorite damn disease" that shit is off the hook! he could have said "you're like my favorite damn ginseng tea or even a shot of damn wild turkey. he had so many "e" based rhyming metaphors to choose from, but he obviously knew that they would have come across as childish, classless and perhaps even a little disrespectful in his portrayal of a sexual encounter, somewhere out there, in the dirt.

Other than The Smiths..

Strapping Young Lad, Radiohead or The Cure.

But The Smiths come up on top..

Tool's actually pretty high up there too which is why I'm uber stoked for the concert.

When I was a kid, Crowded House, Oasis, Bob Marley, The Clash, Big Audio Dynamite + RHCP are what I grew up listening to in elementary school and I must admit have been very influential even if I'm not such a fan anymore.. Which I am, of most...

Seriously I just got back into Crowded House and the memories are flooding in.. - Fri, 19 Oct 2007 10:39am

it's always hard to pick favourites. Some bands, artists, or composers I've liked for a long time are:
-Jamiroquai
-Yasuaki Fujita, also known as Bun Bun (wrote nintendo music like the Megaman 3 soundtrack)
-Cannonball Adderley (alto sax player, you might know him from Miles Davis - Kind of Blue)
-Bela Bartok

I've also fallen into a smattering of intense interests over the last five years. I'm only 19, so this pretty much covers the musical exploration that most people experience as they pass through their teenage years, something I expect to stick with me. These bands include:
-Orchid (the amazing works of art, DIY ethic, extreme passion, and retaining of powerful and unique music)
-Zombie Zombie (so ridiculous and fun, I wish more bands would try to fuse and create genres without sucking)
-Champion (they embody the spirit of hardcore I believe in)
-Comeback Kid (this was one of my stepping stones into hardcore and the album Turn It Around is something I still love after hearing hundreds of times)

also, I gotta say that mica's post was hilarious. so good. comfortably dumb, hahaha. - Fri, 19 Oct 2007 12:21pm Edited: Fri, 19 Oct 2007 12:21pm

ATTENTION!

If anyone is willing to sell me floor seats, I will pay you 50 bucks more than the ticket price.

Please! I'm begging you. I'm so upset right now.

There were complications with the site. I had floor seats, and then... just wasn't allowed to get them. I don't have a credit card and was going to use someone else's who told me that all the credit info was already stored on the site. They are in Hawaii right now and I have no way to contact them.

As soon as you hear of someone who doesn't want their tickets (hopefully floor) or if you don't want yours or can't go etc etc, please contact me!

I'm pretty stoked about this thread. Seems most people here have pretty fantastic taste.

I think for me the smashing pumpkins, skinny puppy, and sonic youth are all tied. There is a lot of more classic music that I love, but it doesn't speak to me the same way.

Edit: I might have to add T Rex and Mother Love Bone to the list... - Sat, 20 Oct 2007 1:24pm Edited: Sat, 20 Oct 2007 1:25pm

The Beatles. Because I can remember the instant that I Am the Walrus blew my mind when I was only five years old (or maybe still 4 I dunno) And I listened to it a thousand times that week until I knew it inside and out. And ever since then I was hellbent on finding new sounds. After that I couldn't really listen to Black Sabbath much. But I got back into that later. Beatles started my music interest. Thanks dad. - Mon, 22 Oct 2007 1:48pm
