Whew! In the November issue of Discorder, the UBC student radio newspaper, All Your Ears Can Hear hits the top 50 charts at #1. WOW is all I can say.

In the Nov issue of !*@# exclaim Canadian music magazine AYECH makes the FRONT FIVE page. Exclaim is a fat newspaper with 144 reviews.

In the Fall issue of Absolute Underground magazine Rob Nesbit wrote a nice 1/2 page review.

anyway the Victoria scene so many created 25 years ago rates well with todays media. Those dirty punks eh!

No complaints with an estimated 700 copies sold to date. The paypal buttons work on the Myspace and Marcus is still peddling them on E-bay. Also availiable @ Ditch Records, Legends Comics, Munros, Lyles, and Spiral coffee house.

cfuv were the only people to play most of the bands in the book, including ours. Too bad they live somewhere else culturally today, wasn't always that way. Clubs are not just windows to peer through and see people from the "real world outside" on their one nighter drive-by. Perhaps local ain't global enough? Maybe we should say it was from Montreal or Toronto, or maybe they are waiting for it to get reviewed in teh Globe & Mail. Whatever. - Fri, 23 Nov 2007 7:15pm

CFUV never got it for some reason. If it hasn't already been sent, I'm sure it would be added if it was sent.

I have a show there and I've been playing the comp a bit. I asked Ricky to come on my show earlier in the year, but it never happened. - Sat, 24 Nov 2007 3:21pm

ok, here's the deal. it's not charting at CFUV because CFUV never got it. Justin, the music director, said the All Your Ears Can Hear guys said they sent a copy, but we never got it. Why not just have someone go into CFUV and give them a copy?

There is punk on CFUV. Donald plays a bunch, Troy plays some, I play some. I know Randy plays some.

I'm not really big on the anti-CFUV comments here. I've been playing local stuff for two and a half years, ever since I got a show here. I've played small stuff, demo recordings, whatever. There are plenty of other shows that play local stuff. The only reason this compilation isn't getting played is because there's no chart release copy in the station. I even have my own copy, but that won't make the charts since it isn't an official chart release.

Don't give up on college radio. Just because some curly-haired coffee shop undergrads are playing only things like Sufjian Stevens doesn't mean every show is like that. - Wed, 28 Nov 2007 10:57am

hmmmmm.... O.K. I will try to get a copy up there soon. Bear in mind our lives are busy. DK I can try again to sit in on your show... CFUV was a very important part of Victoria Alt music history. Dwayne-O-Feedback, Jungle Reggae from the do-wops, Larry from Nevar as well as many others had shows on CFUV twenty years ago and it was the only place to hear punk. I even wrote regularly in Offbeat... and i ain't ever been to University!

anyway I'll get one to Justin.

just a little update... CFUV has the compilation now and it's getting heavy play. I've played it and I'm sure Donald, Troy, and a number of others are playing it. Because it's the end of the year and because we just switched music directors, I suspect it won't be appearing in the "charts" until mid-January, but it IS getting played and we're all super stoked on it.

CFUV is much more diverse now than it was 10-15 years ago, with a bigger focus on different cultural identities than young white dudes. a lot of changes have happened. but there are still people who love Victoria's music scene and Victoria's past so compilations like this are gold even if CFUV has changed. - Mon, 24 Dec 2007 7:39am
