Conflict on tour with Ab Irato (montreal)
Confloict has been arround since 1982, one of the origional anarcho punk bands even had Steve Ignorant from crass in the band for 2 years.

This is conflicts FIRST ever canadian tour, last time they played canada 1000 people turned out!

This date was just confirmed, it is not even on their website yet, and only exists cause they really wanted to have an all ages show in bc, their only other BC date is in Vancouver at the cobalt.

The show is at 2pm, cause that was the only way they could do it... conflict won't be on stage till at least 3:30 so if you are coming from school you can still catch it.

Tickets will be onsale soon

Opening bands yet to be confirmed.

Man this band is as outrageously demanding money like other non talent hacks like Social distortion (only a $20 bill diff).

Its sad when punk bands get a taste for the sweet sweet dollar like this and demand such obviously unpunk prices.

I think Hesher has a point here...

After the freaking stink you made about the Social Distortion show and how much it cost to get in, I find it funny how you have no problem charging $15 for this show.

If it weren't for your tirade on essentially living and dying by the $5 cover charge show it wouldn't seem odd. But right now you just seem like a hypocrite charging $15 for a show.

Oh well...I guess if it's a well known anarchist band from the UK it's ok to shell out the coin and support destroying the establishment. I mean, anarchy costs money these days, don't it? ~snicker~ - Wed, 4 Apr 2007 9:39am

Exactly the point I was making; going on tour costs money no matter where you're from or who you are.

However, the irony here is that Noise Not Bombs feels to think that anyone who has a ticket price over $5 is a sellout. And a $10 ticket price better mean that there's at least 80 shitty anarchist punk bands on the bill, or else it smells like someone's making money. And we all know that bands aren't allowed to survive off their music, isn't that right Noise Not Bombs?

Just go read the Social Distortion thread and see how he cries and screams 'sellout' for a $20 ticket price but is promoting his $15 Conflict show with a clear conscience.

I'm just here to call him on his shit, as is Hesher.

It appears that Noise Not Bombs loves to scrutinize other promoters for their business, so this is a little taste of his own medicine. - Wed, 4 Apr 2007 2:54pm

Socail D was $35 not $20, slight exageration eh??
Socail D is playing in a venue that can hold 1400, conflict in a venue that holds 300, socail D dose not have to pay for plane tix, their coming from america, conflict from the uk...

You can not compare $15 tix to $35 and say I am a hypocrit because i am charging just as much.

ALSO!

I did say way back on the socail D thread that if the show was $10-$15 I would have probably even gone myself... - Wed, 4 Apr 2007 5:02pm

*yawn* As much as you entertain me, you also bore me somewhat Noise Not Bombs.

If you went back and read your original posting I cut and pasted your words exactly as you posted them.

I didn't work any editorial magic because I didn't need to, you misrepresent yourself into looking like an assclown. I wish I could take credit for making you look like an idiot, but I can't because you do it yourself naturally.

If you meant something else by your EXACT words...then maybe you need to learn something about context and forming well thought out sentences.

Instead of spending $15 on Conflict you should take that money and buy yourself a class in spelling and grammar. It'd certainly be good for the cause, whatever your cause is?

I appreciate the fact that you're promoting shows in town and bringing new and old punk bands to town, but don't shit on others who are doing it at a different level.

There's a niche for everyone here, and if you call someone else a sellout for having a $15 or higher cover charge, expect to be called on it when you charge a similar cover.

Now I am officially bored...I'm done with this. - Wed, 4 Apr 2007 6:42pm

I promised myself I was going to stay away, but I just can't.

$3000 guarantee? You know if they get than for all of their shows on this North American tour they're looking at about $89000. I looked up some flight prices from the UK to North America.
You've looking at about $1000 each way (give or take). That's based on 6 people (I'd assume they bring some extras). So take $15000 off that (a little extra as well) and we have $74000. Now it costs a lot of money to either ship or rent gear so lets factor in $5000. Now we're at $69000.
Let's say that work visas are being used (doubtful, as it is. It's not like they want to give money to the Man). Let's say $5000 for that too (I think it's less though). Total is now $64000.
They may or may not have had a booking agent. If so, that would be 10 percent going to them. Subtract $6400. Now we've got $57600 going to the band.
Not a bad haul considering that you get to play your way around North American for the summer vacation.

For the five band members, that looks to be about $11520 each. I'm sure they'll kick in for their friends/roadies who come along for the ride too. Round it down to $10000 each band member. Now that is some sweet money! - Wed, 4 Apr 2007 8:15pm Edited: Wed, 4 Apr 2007 8:16pm

there is a MAJOR diff between $35 tix (2 out of town bands both from north america), and $15 tix (3 out of town bands one from the uk). you can't call that similar priced tix, I maybe cunt spell, but at least I can do enough fucking math to realize $35, and $15 are not similar...

Next.
Also factor in that there is 2 bands that the $3000 is split between... also factor in Gas and van rental, plus paying socap, and other crap like that. There is a lot of other shit being forgotten.
Don't get me wrong, I do feel $3000 is really high, but $15 A TIX FOR 3 OUT OF TOWN BANDS, IN A 300 PERSON VENUE, IS FAIR, $35 FOR 2 OUT OF TOWN BANDS IN A 1400 PERSON VENUE IS REDICULOUSE. If the venue held 500, tix would have been $10-12.
Also.

SHOW ME WHERE I HAVE EVER CALLED SOME ONE A SELL OUT FOR $15 TIX!?!? Guess what I haven't. What I said on Socail D, was if tix had been $15 I would have thought them high, but still wouldn't have said shit... and I compared it to conflict touring with $10-15 ticket prices.
I don't get where you can compare $15-$35 and call them the same...? - Thu, 5 Apr 2007 4:00pm

wow, I just went back and did the math, I am strarting to wonder where you are getting your numbers.

There is 13 dates on this tour. they play blackpool the day before, so they are coming from europe.
Thats $39000 total gross on this tour.

I figured 5 mebers of conflict, 3 members of Ab Irato, on this tour. Dom From AB Irato is setting this all up for them.
Using part of your numbers,

$5000 mininum for plane tix. ($1000 each)
Shipping equipment, I think you said $5000
Renting a Van (ab irato would have a ven, conflict would have to rent) $1000?
Gas (2 vans cross canada) $1200 (probably more)
food (they eat on the road, vegan food, if they get one meal free at each show, they still buy 2, per person per day 8people between both bands) $1500
Immigration fees (jello payed $150, I am pretty sure conflict has to pay, so per member @ $150) $750 total
Ferry to and from victoria (2 vans both ways) $300 (probably more because they probably don't hide when crossing)

Now your estimates come far higher than mine, you included all their american dates in there too, whgich is a separate tour (all those costs over again) as they are playing england between tours...
Also this dose not include compensation for time off work...

The total is $14750 expenses
Total gross take home is $39000
Total gross after expenses 9not including taxes if aplicable)$$24250

assuming this was exenly split between all members of both bands, it would equal $3031.25.

Now also factor in that this band funds a large animal rights fest every year (gathering of the thousands) and has been fundraising (off tours and shows) for heart surgery and medical expenses of their former drummer Paco (see paco campain, on thier website http://www.conflict-uk.com)
Really that aint that bad. - Thu, 5 Apr 2007 5:32pm

Wtf are you doing now??? You don't seem to get it. I don't think anyone was actually complaining about Conflict making too much money, except to make a point to you about expenses.

Larger venues cost more in a variety of ways, DUH.
AND bigger bands, bigger promoters, bigger everything actually pay for a lot of stuff that helps sustain things so that smaller bands, local promoters, smaller everything can get by. How do you think publications/venues/independent radio etc that support what you're into stay afloat? You and your crew are certainly not paying their bills.

And how do you know that Social D don't fund animal rights fests or whatever other altruistic activities every year??? Did you ever consider for a second that they just might but don't feel the need to justify their ticket prices to people like you or gloat about what they do in their personal lives? There are people like that around, you know.

As I think I've said before, you have NO IDEA what people's private lives are about and it should probably stay that way given the way there'll always be people pointing fingers at everyone else talking about THEIR greed.

For pete's sake, this is really stupid. And if you didn't get the point, I think thats what your hecklers were getting at. - Thu, 5 Apr 2007 6:47pm Edited: Thu, 5 Apr 2007 6:49pm

CONFLICT has made it this far with out ever being on a lable, they are on Mortarhate, which is owned by Collin Jerwood, thier singer, they do have SOS distribute their american stuff, and cherry red do their uk distro, but thats it.
I met them in Montreal a couple years ago, the first time they played canada, they are surprisingly a lot more normal than people expect... Colin punched a wall in anger even. and come on NNB, sorry if you think I misrepresented you, and its fair to say so if you think I did. I was just on a loose kinda rant and it was fun. I figured you could take it by now - like I said, you're fun to pick on.

And I did what on the Social D thread? FYI, neither me nor Nev, or even Scott to my knowledge, do much messing with posts on the board. Nev's near never on and can't be bothered, and I've got a strict policy of not tampering with posts without letting everyone involved know, i.e. posting about what I've done, because I like things fair. (This is why when you see me make an ass of myself, or friends ask for favors, or people talk shit about me, the posts don't get edited - I figure if regular users can't do it, I shouldn't either).
So that leaves whoever LiveVic (Nev & Scott) have got moderating. Not me. And besides, I don't even see it in C&Q.
So, who's carrying tales now?

And p.s., just cuz I've got a little pull on here, doesn't mean you shouldn't call me on stuff if you think I'm wrong or just pissing you off. Hell, you can give me a good punch in the arm whenever we finally meet! - Fri, 6 Apr 2007 12:16am Edited: Fri, 6 Apr 2007 12:19am

Damn, thought I replied back to this. It's true I didn't realize that they we're travelling back to the UK between the US and Canadian tours (talk about a waste of money right there). $3000+ each for the Canadian dates still ain't all that bad though, either. At any rate, none of what I say is to begrudge Conflict making money(all working bands deserve to make money), it's the fact that NNB seems to call other bands down who make money but don't openly support anarcho causes. TO EACH THEIR OWN!

I'll leave you alone about it now but I want to point one more thing out that bothers me about your show. I know you couldn't do anything about the time of the event, but it really does alienate all those of us out there with jobs and responsibilities that would be into checking it out. Ironicly, it's those same people who usually have the $ to throw down for a show, so it'll be interesting to see how it works out. I wish you luck.

great read about the riots at the brixton accadamy in 1987, written by CONFLICT
This at the time was the first anarchist punk gathering of this size, the gathering has gone on for years now ever since, organized by conflict, raising money for many causes specifically animal rights. This years gathering is in LA

ALSO!

If any one has a vehicle, and is willing to give people rides to the show, from their schools, please contact me with your contact information, so we can arrange rides to the venue (not that it is far). This may make it easier to get to the show for younger people.
Same goes for any one from Duncan, Nanimo, or Courtney... If you are coming to the show and have extra room in your vehicle that you can share please post on here or contact me directly so we can set up ride share systems to help others get to the show.

To let every one know, the venue is right by the skate park in vic west, a Bus #6 will take you directly to the skate park, and I believe there is a number 6 buss stop right by Vic High. - Wed, 11 Apr 2007 5:51pm
