FF are still playing for all I give a fucking rat's ass - I asked the promoter if I could get a discount for the fact that I arrived at 8:55 in line to check out the bands in the title of this thread - one of which, Decapitated, had already finished playing BEFORE I even got in to the fucking bar. He mentioned something about FF dictating the proceedings soas to prevent this from happening - or something like that. Promoter: please elucidate on the matter, o.k.?
Thank-you

Ya, that sucked, I missed too.
The rest of the show kicked my ass though.I felt the bass re-align my chakras , into an upside down cross.
I'm covered in bruises, scratches and cheap beer. I loved it, needed it.

Suffocation's vocalist is so entertaining to watch. I like his left hand blast, that is rad. Missed Decapitated, did anyone actually see them? Like Hypocrisy started by the time the line moved enough for me to get in. Oh well, they kicked ass too, I left 2 songs deep into FF. They are too annoying for me to of stayed longer. - Tue, 5 Dec 2006 9:53am

As I was in line to check my coat Decapitated's vocalist came up to me and appologized on behalf of the fuck tard who had them playing their set before the crowd had even entered the bar. He said they were as pissed as their fans over the .03 IQ dessision. A sincere fuck you to whoever thought it was funny to pull that shit and thank you to Hypocrisy for sacrificing one of your songs to let Decapitated play one more. It didn't do me any good seeing as I was still in line out side but there probably was a half dozen people inside who really appreciated it. It didn't help that the line had split into two either and really, bouncers of Sugar, if people start making a 2nd line up that's not supposed to be there it's not that hard to tell them to relocate to the real line. I did NOT take a night off work just to be stuck outside while one of the main reasons I went there played to an empty bar and I really hope who ever is responsible for this fuck up gets there shit together or dies or something. Really, fuck you. Oh yeah and suffocation kicked lots of ass too. - Tue, 5 Dec 2006 2:02pm Edited: Tue, 5 Dec 2006 2:05pm

Yeah somebody fucked up big time last night! I got there right before 9 when doors where supposed to open and there were two massive line-ups and much confusion as to which one I was supposed to be in, I was waiting out there forever! I didn't get into the bar until about 4 songs into hypocrisy's set, and there were still a TON of people outside waiting to get in! There's just really no fucking excuse for that! If you wanted to start the show early, let people in earlier, it's that fucking simple!!!! I didn't pay good money to fucking stand outside for 40 minutes while the bands I was there to see played to maybe 30 people! That's not fair to the bands, or the fans, and I hope that sugar gets their shit together for the next show!
Suffocation played an amazing set...although I wasn't expecting anything less from them, I hope they come back and bring decapitated with them!
I ran into the singer from decapitated with Dr.Doom and he and the rest of the band were really pissed about what happened. They apoligised to us and hoped nobody blamed them for being forced to play early. - Tue, 5 Dec 2006 2:19pm

Damn all you FF haters !!:p

Yep missed Decapitated also , what gives with that ? I heard it was the stage/road manager told them to go on at proper time (9:20) and they did ... to bad most of us were still outside ..?!
We got there early because we knew this might happen , and sure as shit it did . Kind of reminds me of that cryptopsy/dimmu gig in Van years ago . I think we got in line over a hour in the cold for that one ? And missed the first two bands for that one ....some almost missed it all together .
What's with the alternating the line crap ? Meh! I didn't even know there was another line till went up front to see what the hold up was ?!

Two doormen working sold out show …?

Any freakin who,

I was told Decapitated was fucking awesome , but only played 4 songs .

First thing I did notice when I did get in - the sound wasn't half bad and that's saying something for Sugars !

Hypocrisy was DAMNNN good ! Lot's of technical parts and the doomy sounding ! Their set was rather short , but it was enough to bask in their awesomeness !!

Suffocation's was in full forum …..well ? I did hear some definite mistakes and a little unravelling . But It was just occasionally and I’m sure not trying to harp about it and I would say they owned the show royally !

Fear Factory was …erm ?….for the first 3-4 songs.

Found it hard to tell old from new , I think I had Mr. Hellz head shaking when I kept asking if it was old or new ? Damn I own three FF cd’s for fuks sake ? Hehe!
But towards the end played a lot of good shit off of Archetype ! And I did enjoy that !

Then we all went back to the Dizzy Shizzle spot !! One of the best Jam rooms in town and the boys opened it up for a after show /Angies birthday party ! Thanks again Pete and Stefano , you rock and your jam spot rocks !!
And a good time was had by all, especially the chick puking in the beer box ! :p

Here some pics , I was too inebriated and having fun to get pics of all the bands ..so..hehe! - Tue, 5 Dec 2006 2:29pm

Im still so pissed off that anything I write in here will make me look like a fuckin dick but I dont give a shit! All I have to say is(Road Manager) telling the first band when to start? WTF I toured this country opening for Cryptopsy on a tour that was sponsered and managed and never, ever did the " Road " manager for the headliners ever tell us when to start. It was always the promoter that set up set times. Never on that whole tour did we even start on time! The club and or promoter would wait until the very last minute to start the first band so at least we would have an audience. Sometimes waiting until most of the line was in and people were getting anxious for some music. Sure maybe Eric Galy (Cryptopsy's Road Manager) asked us to speed it up the odd night. Or if the whole show was running late then skip a song or 2. But whatever transpired last night was fucking sad. Im not really sure of the reason we all missed Decapitated last night,( The one band on the bill that most people I know were excited to see or hadnt seen before ) But I do know that Atomique and Sugar should know better. They've been through this a hundred times and have to account for screw ups. 2 guys doing the slowest ID check and search doesnt help. Fuck when I went in it was just one line at a time. Whats the other guy doin while Im gettin ID'd and searched? I'll tell you what. Standing there staring at me saying " Hey Man " When you see this happening then GET SOMEONE ELSE TO THE DOOR. No one around? Sugar how about some more employees? It was like some teenager was hosting his first all- ages gig! And finally if it all comes down to money to hire more people or whatever then charge another 5 bux cause it aint about the money. I would have paid 25 bux just to see Decapitated by themselves. SEVERELY PISSED OFF !!!! - Tue, 5 Dec 2006 6:21pm

Complete bullshit. All the anger about Decapitated's set being missed has been voiced. Not much more I can add. I am still very pissed about it. The blame is being passed around but everyone involved is responsible.
Hypocrisy - Never been a huge fan, but I've always respected them. Now that I've seen them live I am a fan!
Suffocation - Never disappointing. When they play that old stuff it brings back a million cool memories. I'll never miss a show by them when they come to town.
Fear Factory - The first half of their set was godly. Soul Of A New Machine and Demanufacture material will always slay. Could have played way more of that stuff. Hurt my throat screaming along...fucking excellent! Their newer material is ok, but seems like a waste of time in the light of Decapitated being shafted. Lots of gross, unwashed metalheads in the pit. Blech.
Sugar is run by retarded theives who ruin shows and charge too much for swill that may as well been hand-jobbed from a drunken horny goat with three STDs.
Other than that it was a good and eventful night!
Stefano and Peter: Thank you for having us to the wicked spot after!
Angie: Happy Birthday!
Bram: Hope you slammed that test this morning, brother! - Tue, 5 Dec 2006 9:26pm

Hey guys what can we say...we're sorry Decapitated went on so early. You have to believe us when we say that the set time situation was beyond our control. We don't try to make people upset, and do our best to deliver great shows. All we can do is work on getting Decapitated back here to headline their own show sometime in the future. Heck that might even be enough to make ML7 re-unite for an evening! As well we will convey how you guys felt about door staffing to the club, and we're sure things will be better in that regard next time. And guys...maybe you should also note some of the positive aspects of the show such as alot of metal for one evening, alot of production for a small club venue, and all at a reasonable ticket price without having to travel to Vancouver. We've brought some solid metal shows to Victoria in the past, and intend to bring more so please be patient and bear with us when there is the odd issue such as a great band having to play too early.

Yup, big international talent, small Victoria venue.
I've seen many atomique productions as of late, and I am very thankful for the opportuinity to see big talent in small Victoria venues.
There has been so many can't miss shows my wife is starting to get choked at me going out all the time. The staffing at Sugar is wierd. It always takes a long time to get in, I've complained about that before. As far as taking so much time to check people for weapons, why bother when you can get your stamp, go out to your car, get your weapon and just come back in. I felt insulted drinking single malt out of a plastic beer cup, whatever, I guess they think metalheads aren't civilized enough for glass. Maybe they're right. I don't think i've ever seen wait staff. But in general I've never had a problem with the staff.
Anyhow, thanks atomique for all the great shows you put on. I know you will do your best to bring back Decapitated, an obviuos fan favorite.

edit; I have health issues that make a trip to Vancouver more difficult and expensive for me. So it is particularily nice for me to have a good local promoter. Thanx - Wed, 6 Dec 2006 12:32am Edited: Wed, 6 Dec 2006 1:43am

I asked a couple of the members if they would consider coming back to Victoria and they said yes. I talked to them after their show in Vancouver last year and they said they'd never play there again. It was another unfortunate occurance getting cut off after like 4 songs to make more room for a lesser band ( Dew Scented ) and what the hell were they doing opening for Hypocrisy anyway? - Wed, 6 Dec 2006 1:48am

Hey Atomique!
We're all just venting here. It was a huge piss off and we'll all be mad about it for a long time...it was completely frustrating for all of us. It is obvious who is all truly at fault in this situation.
You guys do a great job bringing bands here and have always treated me and my band with the utmost kindness and respect.
Thanks for doing the show and sorry that you got to take all the guff. Other than missing Decapitated while standing on the sidewalk like chumps, it was a pretty excellent evening for a good price.
If Obituary comes up this way, don't hesitate to grab them!
Did anyone else see the dude who looked like Devin Townsend with a full head of short hair? I could swear that Dev came over in disguise to see Byron play. - Wed, 6 Dec 2006 4:15pm Edited: Wed, 6 Dec 2006 6:19pm

hey, I had a blast.. yah I really wanted to see Decapitated but oh well. Still a good price for a good event and I applaude Atomique for helping turn Victoria into a destination for these tours.

And hey.. me/Bram/Darryl were the first guys in line for the Gwar show @ Sugar.. We all wanted to see Oli Hebert rip it up on guitar. As a result of getting there so early, we caught every act. During ATR and Dying Fetus people were just barely streaming in. By Gwar the house was packed wall to wall. But many people complained about missing the first bands (esp Fetus).. again, victims of shitty club policy vs. road manager vs. whatever else went wrong.

And that was a High Tide production, not Atomique. So it isnt always completely in the control of the promoter. Bands that hit the levels of Gwar or Fear Factory, Im sure often do what they want regardless of what some local promoter says. Like maybe if Fear Factory didnt hog the stage for so long, Decapitated could have gone on 30 mins later.. But that'd never happen, would it.

that being said, a stoned turtle could work the lienup faster than the bouncers at Sugar, and I agree with above statement, that getting a weapon or a mickey or camera in would be a cinch regardless of pat down, and besides its a metal show, people dont bring weapons do they?! - Thu, 7 Dec 2006 12:24pm Edited: Thu, 7 Dec 2006 12:30pm

You are correct Menace Mike. I realize that many different circumstances can arise that the promoter doesnt necessarily have control over. So I say I am sorry to you guys at Atomiqe, because yes you have treated us with alot of respect over the years and you have been bringing awesome bands to town now for a quite a while. But the owners of Sugar should take some notice. Please staff your club with enough people to accomadate a sold out show! The rest of the show was wicked! - Thu, 7 Dec 2006 3:56pm

Yeah , Atomique I negected to say how much we apraseate the great line up's ( no pun intended, lol ) you've brought here and will always support you on future shows .

That night kicked so much ass and not too bad for a Monday night !

Oh and on the Gwar show , it wasn't any fault of the sugar staff or Atomique for people streaming in late ! It was the ticket holders fault for not showing up early to see a great set by ATR . I was there for ATR so I got my butt there early ... plus phoneing ML7 Mike a few times to makes sure the lineup wasn't long ... Fortunately I was one of the 20 people in the bar to catch Decapitated's whole set...and even then they JUST started before I even got up the stairs. It's a damn shame too because in my opinion they were the best band of the night. Suffocation was great as always but Decapitated seemed a lot more "on". Totally not atomiques fault, but I agree that Fear Factory should have opened this show rather than headlined it. I am looking forward too seeing Decapitated come back headlining their own show.

Good times nonetheless.

Yeah, I was at the show they played in vancouver.....The opening band dew scented(who were horrible) got a fairly long set, decapitated only got to rush through 4 songs, before vader got to play for over an hour. I think there were other reasons(like poor turnout) as well. I think they have bad luck with B.C. - Fri, 15 Dec 2006 8:20pm
