On friday december 1st the Brainless Family had a private party to introduce Gary Brainless's brother that had come ovef from England to visit and unfortunatly people we had not invited showed up to party. As usual our kindness prevented us from turning away all these strangers, our kindness was repaid by someone who decided to take a purple and black Roots knapsack belonging to the wife of Gary Brainless. The items inside have value to our family and no one else. We would like the knapsack returned to the ratsnest.

The Brainless Family has decided that there will no longer be party's or show's at the Ratsnest. The last three party's we have had has resulted in our personal property being stolen. Our annual Boxing Day party is now cancelled.

Thank the theiving, disrespectfull subhuman who stole from us on friday night.

If anyone has any info on who stole from us please email us at [email protected] - Mon, 4 Dec 2006 8:27am

Excuse me?!? What the fuck?!? Stupid fuckers that stole the bag, has anyone searched the area to see if it was tossed away? And were the people noone recognized friends of Garry's oldest son?!? That's sad if you ask me! No more shows?!? Even sadder!!! Another historical landmark toast!!! - Mon, 4 Dec 2006 11:51am

The strangers were not friends of Gary's oldest son, they were trying to keep an eye on things for us. Word of mouth has gone too far, total strangers showed up demanding to know when the show was starting! It was a party for friends of Gary Brainless, not every Tom, Dick and Harry in town. I did search Cecelia road but saw nothing. - Mon, 4 Dec 2006 12:00pm

Hmmm... I was over at Corwin's on Saturday (he lives in the Chew's Television building on Burnside road) and didn't see anything. Did you search behind the Rats Nest?!? Oh OK, sorry about thinking it was friends of Garry's oldest son, it was the first thing that came to mind. (oops) Perhaps someone took the bag, then realized cause they did it they don't need the bag and threw it out. - Mon, 4 Dec 2006 12:08pm

When I'm finish working, I'll look around the area and see if I can find anything (Check Galloping Goose/the shortcut to the cold beer and wine, Chew's building, the park, the back alley where I was assaulted, etc., etc.)

Corwin just told me that they emptied out the garbage bins by Chew's on Saturday :( so there's one place not to look. - Mon, 4 Dec 2006 12:12pm Edited: Mon, 4 Dec 2006 12:26pm

Thank you,

I would really like to get it back if possible. It had my cell phone charger in the bag and now that we don't have a land line I can only keep in touch with my kids and husband by cell phone which is now dead! Not to mention the other personal items that I've lost. Unfortunatly it will cost me about 100 bucks to replace everything.

Thanks to all who are keeping an eye and ear out for it, also thanks for looking around, by the time I get home its too dark for me to look around the neighborhood. - Mon, 4 Dec 2006 12:51pm

That's just totally messed up :/ Open your home to people and this is how you get repaid? I really hope you get the bag and all it's contents back. Hopefully one of the idiots involved will read this and just bring it all back. - Mon, 4 Dec 2006 1:32pm

I have to say that two of my favorite nights of the year have been the halloween and boxing day parties for many years now. I hate that it has to go out on a note like this. The safety of your home is of much more importance than us having a cool pad to party in though. Good luck on finding your stuff Brainless family. Good luck on kicking someone in the teeth for it as well. - Mon, 4 Dec 2006 5:17pm

Oh well, I don't know how many, this is the last time we're throwing a party, I've heard. Give it some time.
Good luck Brainless family, and thanks for the years of gigs. - Mon, 4 Dec 2006 5:41pm Edited: Mon, 4 Dec 2006 5:41pm

Why do people have to be such assholes...

After all that the Rats Nest has done for the punk scene in this town, you'd think people would have a little more respect than that... I know we've had our share of shit happen at the Hell House, but never had anything stolen that we can think of...

If you catch whoever did this, I think there should be a "kick the assholes in the head party" at the Rats Nest, I'll bring my steeltoes...

Damn , Gary and Stephanie I’m really sorry to hear this , I had my house broken into this year and I know where you’re coming from . Matter of fact, I’ve heard of a few people robbed of money and property who are in the scene around here .
Yeah just can’t trust the people coming into your/our/their places anymore . Mine was someone I know , being that they headed to areas in the house where only friends knew where cash and shit was .
Your lady and you have been nothing but the awesome hosts to my wife and I and we appreciated your hospitality every time , had one of our best Halloweens there ever . Thank you and your family ! J

Anything I can do to help, just let me know ! ;)

Cheers

If these idiots came the the Ratsnest demanding to know when the show started, they must have known what goes on or be people from the scene (as much as it saddens me to think that).
Gary & Steph have been nothing short of amazing as hosts to all of our drunken asses over the years. It really bums me out that someone would take advantage of that and do something so petty.

take care guys,

Now that's one thing I'll NEVER do, I always have the upmost respect being in a jam space (and I thank those who let me hang around them, that's always very cool). UPDATE: I searched the back alley where I was thumped, the park, garbage in the park (I doubt it's underneath all the garbage bags), as well as numerous areas going to the Rats Nest. Though it was dark I couldn't check the Galloping Goose, the path going down to it (or beside the path), or the shortcut to the cold beer and whine store. I must do this tomorrow, but somehow I doubt I'll find anything (they've probably grabbed the goodies to get a cheap fix and thrown the bag into the garbage). I have to agree, you can't really do much searching in pitch black. My understanding, wouldn't it be cheaper to get a replacement if you take the cel in and tell the cel phone people what happened?!? Or even get a new cel phone?!?

On the bonus side, people that pull crime tend to open there stupid mouth's, and Karma is a biatch!!! - Mon, 4 Dec 2006 7:48pm Edited: Mon, 4 Dec 2006 7:54pm

At this point I am gonna start replacing things, I can buy a universal charger (Gary tells me) so that will fix that problem and the rest of the stuff just means something to me that I will have to get over. I do have a hard time understanding why anyone would do something like that as I have never behaved like that or stolen anything. Just my character I guess. I also believe in good karma and try to be good to others, sometimes its hard when you get kicked in the teeth for it but still hold on to karma coming back on the shitheads. Thanks so much Griphin for looking around. Thanks too, to all the messages, I don't know all the alias so I'm not too sure of who responded other than Jay Brown and Tanya but I'm sure I'm reading messages from our friends and its been awesome.

The hardest thing was saying that Boxing Day was cancelled, I'd still like to have that party but.......
maybe by invite, no spreading the word and it could be a great party. Will let you know........

Again, thanks soooo much, the brainless family - Mon, 4 Dec 2006 10:19pm

Yes, I agree with Onion, Garry and Stephanie are good people, and I get pissed when bad things happen to good people. Just make sure to take all your expensive things and lock them in a room before a party. It kinda (no... fuckin') sucks having to do this, though. - Tue, 5 Dec 2006 4:59pm Edited: Tue, 5 Dec 2006 5:00pm

We haven't figured out yet how to get invites to the people we know and trust. Any ideas? Other than close friends that we have phone numbers for, we have to come up with something.

Thanks for the pic.

Its kinda sad though that we have to do the invites, we always welcomed people in our house to party but now with the lack of respect we just can't do that anymore.

For our halloween party we always pack up and hide our things but for other party's like the one we had on friday we don't because we just expect our friends to show up and we trust them.

Oh well, things change! - Wed, 6 Dec 2006 8:31am

How to get them to people?!? Hmmm... you could hand them out if The Remanes play any gigs, or you could have someone at the door letting the right people in? - Wed, 6 Dec 2006 11:25am Edited: Wed, 6 Dec 2006 3:58pm

Hate to say this, but, if you are going to open your house up for gigs there is a chance something might happen that you dont like, theft, property damage, personal injury, etc.
All you can really do is what you can do. Lock up valuables, hire some honorable security, get insurance, and express to those you invite the importance of not spreading the word to potential thieves and lowlifes. Hopefully the loyal crowd of friends can keep everyone honest.
I hope this post doesnt sound like alot of nothing you didnt already know. - Wed, 6 Dec 2006 4:45pm

Well damnit I wont even be back in vic till the 27th this year...........Hey XY-SATAN good to hear you figured out who ripped you off last I heard you were still in the freshly burned stage. Did you manage to get some retribution out of it at least? I aint very good at letting things like that go, my girlfriend always tells me I should work on that part of my temper but I like it just the way it is. It seems to me some situations just warrant it and if it makes you feel that much better for letting it all out then so be it. - Wed, 6 Dec 2006 6:58pm

Jay I wish I could say they got their just deserts , but no . They burned me again only in the open this time , so I figured it out a bit too late . He left a trail of thefts, rip-offs and scams behind him like the wave of a oil tanker far from shore only arriving after it was to late .

Welcome to the wild and wacky world of crack addiction, the person was a good friend ( I thought) and their lucky I don’t get the cops involved … am I a good friend .. or am I an enabler ?

No matter, it’s a hard pill to swallow and I must protect my family from the trash I bring into their lives .

Trust is gone , kind of like what’s going on at the rats nest . You have to just try to put it behind you .

I’ll tell yea JB, I’ve had my place robbed by someone I know , warded off attackers at the jam spot , and chased down a robber that punched out an 86 year old woman at the Johnson street bridge this year and I’ve about spent myself for having any compassion for people these days .

Sounds like a good time to write a good death metal song ? Hehe!

A fuck mang, nothing compared to what you’ve had to endure!! lol ! - Thu, 7 Dec 2006 12:26am

Well ya mine is all of an entirely different nature though. I would say you are handling yourself rather well for all your strife this year. The Brainless family though, they have been opening up their household to their friends and the community around them for more years than most of us can even remember. Hell a lot longer than a lot of the people on here have even been alive. It is truly a sad day when that has to end because people cant get it through their heads that you dont shit where you eat. - Thu, 7 Dec 2006 9:26am
