Tyler User Info... | I took out an interlibrary loan for the book, from Lethbridge (via uvic's library). it's overdue...haha. lots of cool interviews but also a really biased view of hardcore. good book though. you can get chapters to order it in, or you could just order online. - Wed, 25 Oct 2006 4:45pm
sealion User Info... | Just rented the dvd, 2 copies at crazy mike's, cedar hill and shelbourne. GREAT documentary! MUST SEE! Special features has a great v. short documentary with a serious photographer who was there. The doa/circle jerks thing at the launch is just, well as an oldie, just okay, maybe lame, unlike the ending. I saw so much in the documentary that I didn't view all the extra video clips of bands. I would have loved to have seen some shots of Hardocore '81 cause I was there and it was great. Husker du, Minutemen, DOA hosting itall, three days of bands amazing gig, etc. It was the centre of the whole movement, really. I grinned over the no show of any Dead Kennedy's in it, "on their lawyers advice, HAH! Holiday in lawyer land. And I thought Bruce Loose was DOA on the big blue shark. It kinda implied he wasn't, especially when they interviewed him and he seemed kinda picked. The way that being an American hardcore film meant there had to be a USA map w/no Alaska/hawaii or Canada is funny typical, but props are out there for DOA & Vancouver. The whole thing hit a real authentice chord with me. Bad Brains were amazing, missed them when I was buying 7"'s from sst in the mail from black flag, and deciding I preferred those ultra short minutemen tracks, wow. Red tide, wo't no Red Tide! Loved the way the filmakers made the point that 81-83 was a long long way from all that Richard Hell/sex pistol;s thing, which it was. Heck. might even buy it. Best documentary on punk I've have ever seen. Only thing missing was the "all I wanted was a pepsi" song from repro man. 5 big bad-bama-lams. Dimwit, I miss you man. - Sun, 8 Apr 2007 12:07am Edited: Sun, 8 Apr 2007 12:07am
Livevic Scott User Info... | It screened at Cinecenter at Uvic about 2 months ago. Was only there for like 2 days so I think now you'll have to either petition the Roxy for a one off or rent the bastard and find someone with a huge ass TV =) and surround sound. Which is better because then you can do backflip stage dives off you couch alla Bevis and Butthead! Order the book via AbeBooks.com where you can find an indiependent bookstore that has it, then you don't have to support Chapters or Amazon - though the chains might be cheaper. - Sun, 8 Apr 2007 12:22pm Edited: Sun, 8 Apr 2007 12:26pm
