Mito was AWESOME so good to see local talent! Love the spikes on the guitar! | Akylore User Info... | Horde of Anachron: Fuck man, I have to say these guys probably stole the show for me as I thought my head was gonna snap with the amount of banging up front, I just can't get enough of these guys! Anyone who likes blackened thrash in the vein of bands like Summon or Legion HAS to check these guys out! The new material is innovative in the sense where some of it's slower but it's more epic with some mid-tempo Immortal style riffs (listen to 1 X 1 much? haha) It's almost like they're playing mid-tempo doom metal (if there is such a thing) but keeping their blackened thrash trademark. WICKED "Freewheel Burning" cover!!! I can honestly say after seeing JP last year that you guys did it justice!! Mitochondrion: Fuck man, when I first saw these guys it sounded like they were beginning with sludgy/death-doom, and the vocals were the main highlight for me. Then over the years they seemed to take more of a "blackened grind" direction, but now, HOLY SHIT! Much more metal drumming (no offense Jesse) suited to their style, and the sampling was SO appropriate to their concept. The passages for the first 1/2 of their set were seriously fucking hypnotic, it brought some bands like Nachtmystium to mind at some points. Of course they had to resurrect the reign of Tusk (fucking crushing song,) and there were some points where the Drudkh/Hate Forest influences began to show (at least to my ears, not that I'm complaining ;) Some bands always just kick ass and are in your face but Mito's always been one of those bands that seems to keep changing their sound every time I see them live, they have probably evolved the most over the years compared to other local bands. P.S. Nick: Are those Ukrainian or Norweigan spikes on our guitar? lol Three Inches of Blood: First off, my empathy goes out to Jamie for not being heard the whole night (although he always seems to swing his mic around, I remember he got in shit for doing that at Logan's, lol) These guys are always fun to see man, classic tunes like "Revenge is a vulture" and "Night Mauraders" always seem to get my fist raised up high! I hate speaking in puns but fuck does Cam Pipes have some "pipes!" I haven't listened to them as religiously as other friends of mine, but he seemed to hit those high notes like as if it was second nature! Great 80's hooks, classic metal worship! Good to see the RevenueRunner Records is keeping some decent bands on their label! Madison much? Overall, all the bands kicked ass, and this show was needed as it felt that it had been too long since I went to a crushing local metal show! | ricky jak User Info... | HOA.... started out strange. the music didn't seem to flow. Then by the 4th song something took and all the airlocks where worked out. The engine was running full power and i couldn't control my stompin leg. This band locked in and the dancefloor was quickly mowed over. One question.... what was all that white muck coming out of that horn you guys where drinkin out of? That was kinda strange too. Great show horn drinkers! Thanks HOA Mitochondrion.... well (for me) again the sound wasn't quite right so they didn't sound as good as they did the other times i saw them.... still the music felt like you might be on some kinda journey or road to war. Unfortunatly one of my favorite local metal bands lost me on that night. But what the fuck do i know. 3IOB.. what can i say, I like metal on a slower pace and 3IOB play right at that cusp. Man the crowd cheer inbetween songs was huge! Canadians are usually too polite for that kinda noise.... I thought we where live in Hammersmith! Good metal. Yes 3IOB It was funny when Cam the singer dedicated a song to his Dad that had come to see him.... it reminded me of one evening when my little brothers metal band MOC was playing at Harpos 86-7ish. | Spinvis User Info... | Overall, great show and it was packed. Horde of Anachron sounded supremely better than a few weeks ago at Lucky. Sound was much better and clearer, nice set. Mito put on an impressive set. Their new drummer did such a great job and nice use of the samples. Saw some of 3IOB, but I thought the vocals could have been louder?a - Sat, 12 Aug 2006 9:34pm | ||
