| Lordpatch User Info... | A CALL TO ACTION TO ALL CANADIANS Saturday, August 12, 2006 at 11 a.m. Parliament Hill, Ottawa Rally to demand that Prime Minister Harper call for an immediate ceasefire and rush humanitarian aid to Lebanon. PLEASE HELP PUBLICIZE THIS EVENT TO ALL CANADIANS Print the details above and put up posters throughout your community. It can be difficult to find a spot to post larger signs. Little quarter sheet posters are easier to work with and can be very effective if posted at bus stops, at pedestrian crossing signals or anywhere that people are forced to wait. I remember my frustration in 2002 when Israel re-occupied the West Bank. I was not well connected then and I would hear about the rallies after the fact in the newspaper. Polls show that Canadians are not pleased with Harper's position on this. Put up a sign and give them a chance to show it! Many demonstrations have been held over the last few weeks but were mostly attended by Lebanese and Arab Canadians. So if you are NOT Arab, please make every effort to attend this demonstration. Our fellow Canadians of Arab origin need our support for their just cause and we all need to show Harper that we don't want our government to take orders from Bush. I admire you for standing up for your convictions but they are not going to hel in this situation and I'll tell you why. Harper and the conservative government don't want to anger Bush because they want to be in on the cheap oil when the US conquors the Middle East. Plain and simple. U think we should concentrate on convincing the government to withdraw from OPEC, begin filling our own fuel needs domestically and then cut off all exports of U235. If you do your homework, you'll find out Conservatism in Canada and the U.S. have very different histories and are different ideologically in several areas. Bush is a dink. Harper is a Conservative Canadian politician. Comparing Harper to Bush is an unfortunately very effective scare tactic used by the Socialist elite (or not so elite in Lordpatch's case) in this country to sway votes in the direction of the Liberal and NDP parties. Words like "fascist," "American," and "redneck" get thrown around to give anything even remotely connected with Conservatism a bad connotation. It is a cheap, un-intellectual SCARE TACTIC, and it turns the uneducated and truly ignorant into zealots of the socialist cause. Look at what happened to imperial Russia. | Doc User Info... | While the history of the 2 parties (Republican and Conservative) may be quite different, there politics are rather similar. Both are socailly conservative on issues like abortion and hosexuality and both favour capitalist/corporatist economy. The direct Bush/Harper comparison is a little stale I'll agree, there are similarities in their polotics (though Harper wins the inteligence and personality prizes hands down). As to that "Facist" buzz word bull-shit, try reading up on Facism, the similarities between it and the currnet polotics in North America (of most of the parties) is scary. I commented on this in the Lordpatch ID theft thread. I'm not saying that I support facism (I don't) or Socialism (Marx was a twit) but I think that we need some serious changes in our political system and Conservatives are NOT the answer. Whar would really benefit us right now would be a few years of government with a majority seat in Parliament. Years of ineffective minority governments in Germany and Italy paved the road for Hitler and Mussolini to gain power.
