kind of like your drumming is shit. besides, if you are a TALENTED musician (unlike luke lles here) anything you play will sound good, within reason. luke could be playing an oc drum kit, and he would still sound like ass.

Children, i just bought a SWEET Takamine there. If that name isnt good enough for you, i dont know what is. I will deal with alloy again anyday. Lets keep the little guys in. Also I bought about 400$ worht of strings in one go, and way better deals than the big stores. Saw a WIKID vintage Marshall there today. I am going tomorrow to buy a mandolin. Washburn,Takamine and Marshall were a few of the good name brands i saw there. - Sat, 29 Jul 2006 8:00pm Edited: Sat, 29 Jul 2006 8:02pm

I took in my guitar, to get intanated and restrung, and the kid doing it, i know cant play guitar worth shit, and when i got it back, it wasnt intanated AT all, and it was restrung like a retarted did it. They never have the right set of strings i ever need either. its fucking retarded, AND their almost double what they are at L&M - Sat, 29 Jul 2006 9:49pm

Sorry there Mr. Experienced, but the strings are NOT more expensive, or even double.

Also, i saw BC Rich, Yamaha, pedals....

Its a small store, i live in Langford, i will keep shopping there from now on. - Sun, 30 Jul 2006 8:50am

I have no idea what the "repair" section has to offer. However, I just went back today, and needless to say, the service was impeccable.

Maybe its a new employee's, or new something, but if gear is what you want, i suggest taking a trip out there. Of course you are not going to have the selection as LandM as its a smaller store, but they got the best prices i have ever seen on Fishman (Martin) Electronics. They are an official Rep for Fishman now. They got a sweet Takamine Jumbo for under 1K.

I bought a cool Metronome. Until something stops me, Alloy is my store from now on. They have the Kerry King Signature BC Rich there for 400$ and change, and with the sale on you could probably get a wikkid deal. - Sun, 30 Jul 2006 1:32pm Edited: Sun, 30 Jul 2006 1:33pm

what are you a salesman for the store?

from my experiences alloy was by far more expensive than l&m so your shooting your self in the foot driving out there with gas prices unless you live near there its just not worth it - Sun, 30 Jul 2006 4:32pm

Ive had a few decent deals there.
I traded an old martin i had, (which needed about $700 worth of work before it was playable) for a vintage '64 blackface fender showman. that was a killer deal.
And they've got good deals on condenser mics. But it is a bit out of the way, and it would be nice if they had more high end gear, but you can find some sweet vintage stuff in there once in awhile. Lots and Lots of spare parts too.
If you're looking for a pickup or some losse odds and ends, ask thme to let you search around in the back. Ive found some pretty cool stuff before for good prices. - Sun, 30 Jul 2006 7:24pm

No i am not a salesman. And also, i dont give a rats ass about my fuel costs. Also, i have probably bought more guitars than you have jerked off, and i know a good deal when i see one. haha I love how it turned into a debate about the store. I won't claim to like or hate the store, I have talked to a very closed-minded employee and seen a lot of low-end gear but they have some cool stuff lying around as well. Typical of music shops of that nature, I've got nothing against it. It's in my area but I haven't been playing favourites with music shops, typically Long and Mcquade has more of what I'm looking for because they are big and have the whole large-music-store-monopoly around here. - Sun, 30 Jul 2006 8:58pm

My other 2 cents. If Alloy has what you would like to buy, get it. If they dont, go elsewhere. And like-wise..Go to LandM if you want great kick ass financing and a wide selection, with kick ass employees. There is no debate here, I live in Langford, it has been serving me extremely well. As a matter of fact, i took in a piece of shit 12 string that i couldnt care less of what happened (thats how shitty it was) and the dude made it playable again. It was well worth the fee. So far, both the Big stores and the little guys have served me well.

And..."not all of us can afford like 6 grand for a 5 piece"

And you cut down Alloy? I can afford a 6K drum kit and i am shopping there. So stop kicking the little guys. - Mon, 31 Jul 2006 9:43am Edited: Mon, 31 Jul 2006 9:45am

Anonymous: I'm not one to get into forum politics. But Luke is an amazing drummer, and I've got nothing but respect for a guy his age who can drum like he can. I suggest you take the time to hear the guy play before you start making assumptions about his ability.

On another note, since when is this forum so hostile? What happened? - Mon, 31 Jul 2006 1:58pm

I don't know why people are sticking up for L&M. Sure their employees are friendly but they are also incompetent. Their selection is good if you want a Strat or Gibson but it's luck of the draw if your looking for anything else. I got my first guitar from Alloy and then my two since from L&M. I've been in Alloy and ended up talking to the guys for an hour and they also know a lot about the technical side of how instruments and amps work. Big and small stores both have their benefits. I'm sad I missed the sale but I can't afford to buy much now anyway.

There's a rumour that Tom Lee music will be opening up shop in Langford in the new mall area across from Home Depot. Now that they bought out Dave's Keyboards in Victoria and Nanaimo it might be a logical move to bring the guitars and drums here too. - Tue, 1 Aug 2006 3:27pm

Yeah, that must be it. Thanks for your encouraging and thoroughly insightful post Anonymous. You've really opened my eyes. It's nice to see a forum continue to expand with members such as yourself taking the lead. Childish insults without face or basis are always good to hear. Good luck with that.

I'll say it again, the forum politics on this site are some of the worst I've seen. So don't expect another political retort from me again, I should have expected complete idiocy on some members part. - Tue, 1 Aug 2006 10:35pm

James, you should probably move on to the next sales person at L&M if your current one is incompetent. Some don't know much, and some may not specialize in what you're asking about, but someone in there will know what's up. [asskiss] Your best bet is probably talking to Ian MacElroy. He's in the bass department, but that guy knows a hell of a lot about almost anything, and if he doesn't know, he'll tell you who does instead of feeding you bullshit. Well in my experience Tim at Alloy is one of the most decent guys in the "industry" and will always give you the best deal he can without losing his torn shirt. He has always had the best intentions in mind for his fellow musician and doesn't chase the almighty corporate dollar - hence the ma & pa size store. The good always finish last.

I agree they don't have the buying power to stock all the top names but certain people prefer sound, quality and price over brand name. If you can just disconnect yourself from the market place and listen for yourself you will probably see that some of the "cheapest, no name gear" actually sounds better than some of the highend mass produced gear. Obviously it's all in the eye (and ear) of the beholder.

When i was 16 Tim traded me straight across my crappy Baxter drum kit for a brand new double kick Pearl export. Of course i had to include a date with my sister for him but hey that's the kinda bartering this down to earth guy is willing to do...ha ha.

Alloy will always choose honesty over business, that's a certain lost "quality" that i miss from the other guys. - Thu, 3 Aug 2006 3:39pm Edited: Thu, 3 Aug 2006 3:42pm

Your right Alain. There are some good guys in there like Ian. I don't blame the employees so much as the store procedures. They have a couple new guys in there that are really helpful too.

I'm just bitter from waiting for speakers I returned and finally got them back after 6 months. I took them back on warranty for repair and I checked back with them a few times. They kept telling me they would call me and then finally one of the guys looked it up and said that the company just sends them replacements and not the repaired items. - Fri, 4 Aug 2006 9:37am

Tim is a cool shit. Alloyis ok if they have what you need, but L/M own my soul with the in store credit.

I called Tom Lee and they said guitars by Sept, superstore sometime in the new year.

Why they would put it in Langford is beyond me, but they also have in store credit so I think I will get me an LTD! - Fri, 4 Aug 2006 10:42am
