Teenagers have been drinking alcohol for centuries. In pre-Revolutionary America, young apprentices were handed buckets of ale. In the 1890s, at the age of 15, Jack London regularly drank grown sailors under the table.

For almost as long, concerned adults have tried to limit teenage alcohol consumption. In the 1830s, temperance societies administered lifelong-abstinence pledges to schoolchildren. Today, public health experts regularly warn that teenage drinkers run greatly increased risks of involvement in car accidents, fights and messy scenes in Cancun.

But what was once a social and moral debate may soon become a neurobiological one.

The costs of early heavy drinking, experts say, appear to extend far beyond the time that drinking takes away from doing homework, dating, acquiring social skills and the related tasks of growing up.

Mounting research suggests that alcohol causes more damage to the developing brains of teenagers than was previously thought, injuring them significantly more than it does adult brains. The findings, though preliminary, have demolished the assumption that people can drink heavily for years before causing themselves significant neurological injury. And the research even suggests that early heavy drinking may undermine the precise neurological capacities needed to protect oneself from alcoholism.

Well, any kind of abuse of any drug is bad in first place .

But most of my friends/aquatint’s who were born in my era (60's) and drank/smoked from a young age (12/13) in the 70’s are still kicking and in good health . I eat a health diet, always have.
For fuks sake only a few hundred years ago people were drinking , getting married as young as 12 years old and lived till only 30 years old.
How old do you expect to live boomers ?
People from around the era of great wars , ate simple , worked hard , and went through times of hardship and sacrifice and lived into their 70/80's and up .
And a lot of the ones that died early, died in the great wars . Plus medical science was in it’s infancy and if you got sick a lot of times you died .
These were extrordinary human beings if you ask me , and a generation of hard working/good/nonjudgmental folks who told you the way it was without the holier then thou approach . My grand parents and that generation were the most honest/true people there has ever been IMO and I love them and respect all of them for what they gave up for us .

Now, the next generation produced from them (Baby Boomer’s) are/were the most self absorbed , money grubbing , quick to criticize, wastes of space there has ever been .
Never really worked hard for what they have and EXPECTED all the rights and privileges as their parents . Which their parents gave up their futures and also died for.
Most had all opportunities/pensions to push them forward into today and have the gall to tell younger generations how they should live their lives and lived that way themselves ?!

Pathetic .

YES WE ALL KNOW DRUG ABUSE CAN HURT YOU !

Shesh !

Give me a break .

They polluted their own bodies with drugs (booze/pot ) and bad eating habits in the 60’s, but now their getting old and all the abuses of years ago are coming home to roost .
So this is a study to dodge problems that have ……ALWAYS BEEN HERE !

Study it to death , and when I death I really mean it .
Do somthing about it , stop wasting money on shit we already know .

Fuc mang, you don’t have to do a study on that , I’ve lived it ! More useless info we already figured out years ago .. go figure ?

Our great grand parents drank early ,fought a war and lived off nothing ……and were healthier and lived longer , what does that tell you ?
Not like I’m advocating young people to drinking at a young age, but anyone from my generation who has kids today understands what’s up . Young people experiment with drinking and drugs, stay close to what your kids are doing and keep an open dialog.

This is 30 years + news .

Unlike my parents who pigeon holed pot smoking as drug addicts like “Reefer Madness “ and blamed my friends, the school, society for an excuse. And not noticing all the dysfunctional families we all came from …divorce/prescription drugs/alcohol abuse/ mid life wanking ,…you name it.
A generation know as the “ME” generation .

Don’t blame ME ,
blame MY parents,
I just got to be ME !
They’d whine that their parents made them this way and blame them.

And not except… maybe they where lazy and preoccupied with their own needs ?

*See Hippies/yuppies/draft dodgers.

Their parents came out of the great war, were gave up their years of youth and prosperity to bank for THEIR futures .

TODAY ,

Oh young people who drink are BAD ..Umkay .

.. doing drugs is BAD… Umkay .

That just doesn’t fly with me .

Umkay !

Back in the 70/80’s they sold off mine and others futures to save themselves ( cut backs , unemployment 19% , interest rates 17% , no fucking jobs , money cut for apprentices, welfare/unemployment programs ) , my generation who traveled all over this county to get low waged jobs and drank/drugged themselves silly because of boredom and no jobs .

The baby doomers , drank and drugged through most of the 70/80’s and early 90’s .

You wait, they’ll try to cut you off medical because you drank when you where under age .
Studies like this are a joke and trust me the egghead boomer who gave the ok to this study probably, will get a award or a recognition he so greatly expects beforeretirement .

Alcohol abuse at a early age is bad ..
