Fuckin eh indeed, i've been tryin to get Darkest Hour to town for about 3 years now! Their new Cd kills, this is what metal/hardcore SHOULD sound like: Gothenburg-style Swedish death metal, hardcore song structures, and punk rock attitude!! http://www.purevolume.com/undoingruintour to check out the 4 bands on the tour!! - Mon, 31 Jul 2006 8:10pm Edited: Mon, 31 Jul 2006 8:20pm

Darkest Hour used to be just about the only metalcore band I didn't mind (other than Uphill Battle...who are very borderline as far as the metalcore aspect goes)....but I have no idea what their current shit sounds like.
Misery Signals always bored me...and I have no idea what the other bands sound like (really generic metalcore would be my guess solely based on the names.)
I may go....but more than likely not(since Distort fest is the next 2 nights in Van and I'll need to save my pennies for that). - Wed, 2 Aug 2006 5:32pm

Decent show.

-1st band didnt make it. (gear stolen)
-2nd band were heavy but not reaally my thing overall a bit too monotonous for me.
-Misery Signals were decent but not as good as when I saw them at James Bay Comm Centre years ago with their original singer.

Darkest Hour were on fire. Some absolutely shredding guitar work (rythms and leads) and the drummer was a machine. Lots of killer solo's (basically a clinic), I bought an instructional video based on the calibre of guitar playing.

Shitty turnout. - Fri, 25 Aug 2006 12:11pm

Show started at 9:45 and ended by 12:30.

fans of good metal should be ahshamed for missing Darkest Hour, they indeed put on a clinic. Fucking awsome.

and yes Shitty turnout, if you guys want good metal to come to town you better support it or people are gonna stop trying. - Fri, 25 Aug 2006 2:23pm

yea its too bad it was such a poor turnout, last time I caught DH in Vancouver last year the turn out was even worse! I guess thats good ol western fuckin' canada for you.

Misery Signals smoked it for me, everything sounded really good. The musicianship of those dudes is fuckin' ass tight. DH's guitars could have been cranked a bit. Sugar needs to figure out the all ages/liscensed deal. - Fri, 25 Aug 2006 3:33pm

It sucks that From A Second Story Window lost a guitar player. They played some material off their EP which was cool.

Misery Signals were sooo tight it was ridiculous. They seemed like a larger than life band. Really good set.

Darkest Hour got up there and fucking thrashed. They continued thrashing until I was tired. Which is really really good if you're a thrashy band. They kick some buttocks. - Fri, 25 Aug 2006 3:45pm

Fisrt off, the turn out for this show was indeed dismal. quite dissapointing really. as for any of those bands coming back to little Victoria.......not fucking likely.

something about a big room with no one in it that really wrecks the vibe for me.

Its all about darkest hour. holy shit that was a great set. and yeah the guitar work from those guys is phenomenal. makes me want/need to practice

one down side for me personally is getting a smack in the fucking lips somewhere within the first song. thought i was out of bounds but here we are.

another highlight is seeing tony g. missed that dude.

and michaud my night went about the same. t shirt looks purdy. LIVE TO THRASH-THRASH TO LIVE!

what did suck was getting up for work this morning. breakfast was a hearty portion of advil. yum yum

but hey some nights are worth it and this was one of them. look forward to seeing DH again. - Fri, 25 Aug 2006 7:05pm

Was a rad show aside from the turnout. Pit was slightly lacking haha. Misery Signals and Darkest Hour really killed it. I was pretty dissapointed that MS only played a few songs, though i was really happy that they finally came back.

I can't believe nobody mentioned the Unicorn decapitation! Your collective apathy for the plight of the phantasmagorific hobgoblins and their gentle creatures astounds me.

It sounded like Misery Signals was hopefully attempting to channel Opeth's Deliverance in a few spots. If only...

It was loud in there, but not enough low end for my liking. I'm a bottom feeder, though. - Sat, 26 Aug 2006 3:16pm Edited: Sat, 26 Aug 2006 3:26pm

Shit fuck! Darkest Hour are slayers of the beast. The Metal beast. Also the unicorn beast. Man, is it just me or are the solos not that good on the album? Sadistic Nation was so intense live. I was impressed.

First band, lame, boring...

Second band, Definitly tight. I know what Nik meanz by larger than life. However, each song came off the assembly line. Some of the grooves they had were inpressive. All and all though not my bag.

Worst part of the night, that rad shirt Darkest Hour had with the ship on it was not stocked in my size. That shit was Hot! - Sat, 26 Aug 2006 11:35pm

If you tell me where you could actually do this show and make it all ages, and i'll start doign shows there.

You can't do this one in a hall as the production values would be too low for the bands reqiremnts without spending over a $1500 in PA gear. Legends has low cealings, everyone hates it, and the shows start at 4:30 when many are still at work, let alone ready to go out and see a show.

If you solve this one, i'll let ya into the next one for free =)

.... couldn't goto the DH show cuz it was no minors but went to the ghosts/dirt on show at Logans instead eh ? *laugh* - Tue, 5 Sep 2006 8:55am

I think the problem with this show was that the bands simply are not a big enough draw to be playing at Sugar on a weekday night. Not that I'm the yardstick for these things but the only band I had even heard of was one that I saw a crappy video (and song) for on Loud.

How did the Vancouver show go for them as far as attendance was concerned?

Moron: My first thought was to put try and put the show into lucky, however they can't do thursday nights, band couldn't do friday. Which leaves me with Sugar, which has more capacity but a bit higher production costs. I don't know the numbers on the vancouver show, however it was Richards on Richards they were playing there which holds about 700? I think.

ak: Event center capacity is about 250, and it would have cost an additional 1000+ to do the show there over Sugar, and 1800 more then Lucky, so with the aditional costs and the lowered capacity the show would barely break even at capacity. - Sat, 9 Sep 2006 10:03am Edited: Sat, 9 Sep 2006 10:13am

How come Logan's was out? Capacity wise it must be close to Lucky now. You have to bring in extra PA currently but that's only $100 - $150 from L&M.

Logans is 150 cap , Lucky is 200 and the 50 really made the difference. I actually had a hold on logans at one point and even submitted an offer on doing the show there, however with the capacity 50 less then lucky I couldn't bring the bands guarentee up enough to get them to confirm in that room even with an 18 doller ticket.

Basicly I totally agree with all everyones points. When it was comming down to making the decisions before the show happened, I went with what I thought was the best choice at the time. The other option I considered was doing it AA @ Legends. However I figured NONE of the 19+ patrons would come if thats where the show was, same went for if I somehow convinced the bands to lower their production values of their stage show and do it in a hall.

Basicly I figured 200 people would come, they didn't and the show would have lost money even if it was in a smaller room. Was a good show, Darkest Hour were awsome and lived up to all my expectations of them. Glad I tried it, yes. Would I book em again? Not unless the venue situation improves so there is an affordable option for this sort of show. - Sat, 9 Sep 2006 6:16pm
