Message Board > Music Chitchat - Heavy > A tip for young bands. |
The Professor User Info... | So, I do sound a lot, probably once or twice very weekend, and often I find my self doing sound for really young bands just starting out. I've heard lots of good (and bad) bands but one really easy means for improvement has always stuck out for me and I thought I should make a post about it just in case it can help somone. The tip is this: get a tuning pedal. I know you are young and don't have lots of money, but they aren't really that expensive and will always be useful to you. They are never goin out of style and it'll make your performance way way better. I know you can tune by ear, but the audience doesn't want to hear that, it wrecks the vibe, and you'll end up not tuning when you should be. If your guitar goes out of tune you sound not only out of tune but really muddy as the clashing tones create sub-harmonics that make a mess of everything. This has been a public service tip from your friendly livevictoria soundguy. - Wed, 10 May 2006 11:19pm Edited: Wed, 10 May 2006 11:24pm

dooker User Info... | in tune = less cancellation = bigger sound = better impact = sometimes it is also good to have your guitars set up properly = costs $50-75 but makes a huge difference - esp when recording!! - Thu, 11 May 2006 11:45am

tyler User Info... | how much do you charge for doing sound? - Sat, 13 May 2006 9:51am
evilkleg User Info... | I strongly recommend gettin' one of them Boss tuners that are white with orange writing (can't remember the model). Cost about $125 cdn and are bomb proof. I returned some crappy piece of gear from L&McQ once and bought the tuner instead. It cancels your signal while tuning so you don't subject the audience to your noise. Most of them never even realize you are tuning. Makes you look and sound way more professional. - Mon, 15 May 2006 3:22pm
The Professor User Info... | Hey Tyler, We charge $200 for sound for an all ager, or $300 with stage included. That price also includes some basic colored lights, extension cords, drum carpet and all those little things you need to make the show go smoothly. Also, I'll play interesting music between sets. - Mon, 15 May 2006 3:58pm
