CALLING ALL PUNK, METAL & HARDCORE BANDS!!!!

John from Whitebird has given the green light to let me book punk shows at The Jungle Room...with great sightlines, a decent stage and it's closest neighbour being Monty's, the place is just begging to go punk!

Starting May 12th, THE CONCRETE JUNGLE will be delivering killer shows with low door prices, great drink specials, skate-vids & classic movies on the big screen and door prizes as well...it all starts proper-like on May 12th with Vancouver heavy-hitters, The Excessives, plus local rippers Friday Night Murder & Laying Waste.

Bands need to be treated well for the effort they put into playing. The Concrete Jungle will ensure all bands who play get what they deserve and are treated with some fucking respect....a breakdown of all expenses and ticket sales will be provided for all bands.

Local bands will be given a healthy guest list and additional drink tickets in leiu of money when an out of town band needs that extra money to get back to the mainland. We all know what it's like to be paying to play, but having tom travel on the boat kills you...local bands can suck it up and wait until the y play Vancouver. The favor I hope will be returned.

This is just one of many ways I want to try and make this venue the best place in town to see to see live punk rock!

bar only. i think Brian and the rest of the all-ages promoters are doing more than enough these days. I'd love to be able to help them by offering additional shows to the bands they are booking. - Mon, 3 Apr 2006 10:08pm Edited: Mon, 3 Apr 2006 10:10pm

Hello, I am in this band called Trickster. We may fall under your "punk" category with including singalong choruses and such. We've played the Jungle Room before. Dude, what's your e-mail? We would be definitely interested in setting something up. - Mon, 3 Apr 2006 10:53pm Edited: Mon, 3 Apr 2006 10:55pm

it would be reely cool to get more all ages punk shows in victoria...and more places for smaller punk bands just starting to play at that dont have alot of cash. like, its punk bands, they dont have money. and it keeps the kids out of punk and punk is all about the kids. ALL AGES OR DIE
and anyone who thinks music should disciminate youth cuz they cant drink is a whore and can bite it. fuck denying kids to see music. when i become of age to get into these venues i will boycott them if they do not begin promoting more all ages shows and encourage everyone i know to boycott them as well. this is my rant. FUCK AGEISM. - Mon, 17 Apr 2006 10:05pm Edited: Mon, 17 Apr 2006 10:12pm

rip skinny, while your enthusiasm for more all-ages punk shows in town is appreciated, there's no need to gripe about bar shows and their promoters, most of these guys have been involved in punk in this town since the 80's.
That said, I think more promoters would be willing to do more all-ages punk shows if the kids here were more respectful of venues. It's an unfortunate truth that all-ages shows are far riskier financially than bar shows; bar shows have their own security to deal with rowdies and they generally make their money off liquor sales with most of the money from ticket sales going to the bands. All-ages shows tend to have inferior sound equipment due to their DIY nature and if money is lost on the show it's entirely on the head of the promoter, not to mention any damage that happens to the building.
If you really want to help all-ages punk shows thrive in this town make sure kids understand that puking all over the bathroom, "tagging" the building, breaking windows, brazenly drinking outside the show, or starting fights only hurts themself because things like that are what prompts community centres to stop allowing rentals for punk shows. It's happened many times before, and it's the cause of many a promoter throwing up their hands in frustration and walking away from the situation, because they really don't need to deal with the headache when the very people they are putting on the show for spit all over them any chance they get.
Anyways, more power to Jake, everyone can do their own thing, there's enough room for all different punk shows here. - Tue, 18 Apr 2006 11:20am Edited: Tue, 18 Apr 2006 11:30am
