| Ward Ensemble User Info... | Iam sick to DEATH of hearing about 50 cent. The big issue is 'should he be banned from entering Canada', and the mitigating factors are his lengthy criminal record, and his glorification of gun violence in his music. Freeedom of speech is one issue, but for those of us who can't enter the US because of single, minor criminal records of the past, there is a question as to why he should recieve better treatment. One rebuttal to the contrary is people sympathizing with his having been shot nine times. EVERY ARTICLE I READ GLORIFIES THIS INCIDENT. The only thing I personally identify with is the fact that we allowed his movie to be filmed here, and took his money without question. Although it would be shitty of us to NOW enforce the criminal record thing on Fifty Cent, it is still a slap in the face to anyone who has been refused entry to the states because of a ten year old posession charge, or whatever the case may be. | Mutilashawn User Info... | 50 Cent is a joke along with other (most) Top 40 rappers, with the exception of maybe Kanye West and K-Os. Hip hop should never be banned. The glorification of 50 Cent's gangster life is racist in itself. It perpetuates the stereotype of a black male as a thug or a gangster in order to sell records, and it appears that most people like him based on this fact alone. Because it isn't like he is a remarkable rapper or anything. But I do agree that banning him from the country is WAY over the top and would just be counter productive. I'm sure you know that the artists in video's you see on Much Music are not the be all and end all in a genre such as rap/hip-hop. I suppose no one really got that I was talking about the "We should ban rap in general from Canada" not the fact that 50 Cent wants to enter Canada. I guess my assumptions about livevic were correct. Majority of people on here take this forum too seriously. To elaborate, maybe if Ward Ensemble used what I had placed earlier about "top 10..." it wouldn't have offended me as much. I just took it as that he expected all rap music should be banned from existing in Canada. If you want to debate whether or not that statement is "racist" that is fine. Please remember, however, that rap music is a part of black culture. Limiting it's distribution in such a place as Canada would be considerably questionable. Have we prevented Rob Lowe from entering Canada? The guy had sex with an underage girl and was convicted of it. | alcoholly User Info... | regardless of any of that shit, there are bands that are just trying to scrape together a few dollars to tour and do a few shows for maybe even no dollars at all. Reality is that they can be turned away for no real reason whatsover even if somebody doesn't like the way they look. Sure sometimes there aren't papers with all the t's crossed and the i's dotted, but it seems like lately there has been a lot of shit like this. There's no racism or any other agenda to it, just basically these guys can deny anyone for any reason. Border guards are wise to sending your shit separately and they can totally do whatever they want. So should it matter if you are famous or not? I don't think so. No one should get preferential treatment based on their success or how much money they have. That doesn't make them "better". Does Canada really need the money that bad??? Eminem, 50 Cent, Marylin Manson, 2 live crew, The Sex Pistols, etc. Any bit of controversy usually leads to ass loads of money. Unless of course it's the real bad kind of controversy (ie. Gary Glitter / Michael jackson / Jerry Lee Lewis). As for the border rules, most of it is at the guard's discretion. I don't dig the stuff, but I'm not exactly into Nana Mouskouri either, and I never gave my mom shit for listening to it.
