... so your saying that there wont be any extra money after venue is paid and stuff? Like sure a lil profit is nice for the bands.

i'm not saying the bands are just greedy and money hungry, it's just shows used to be around 4-5 bucks... and depending on the turn out there would still be a decent profit.

i miss those 4-5-6 buck shows. - Mon, 24 Oct 2005 5:50pm

"... so your saying that there wont be any extra money after venue is paid and stuff?"
Chances are there wont be. I've seen it A LOT of times where even with a good turnout, after paying the bands, the promoter barely breaks even. Such is the nature of the scene though.

I think the problem is, when the same people keep putting on shows for the same price, and there are fewer kids, or more expensive bands, or more expensive venues, need to replace mics/speakers/cables/stands etc. they need to make up the cost somehow. Its one thing for jo-shmo to put on a show or two and take a couple losses, but Bosevus has been putting on shows for years and years, and its hard to keep taking those hits.

The bands aren't really making profit either when it comes down to it. I certainly haven't made back the money i've spent on my own equipment, let alone all the costs of the band itself. Each member has to take HUGE losses left right and center.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to put you down or take sides. I'm just saying what I know and I've observed. I don't know what your experiences have been, so you might know something I don't.

All i know, is that bands (especially those who stick in the all-ages scene) are ALWAYS at a loss, and the promoters generally are doing no better.

Its not really about money and profit, its about making enough money to sustain 'the scene'.

Not to mention, I don't think anyone I know in bands has ever spent the money they make on personal things. Generally that money is put right back into the band. Really, the more money a band makes, the better their CDs and shirts will be....
I don't mean to get preachy, but thats my perspective.

more importantly COME TO THE FUCKING SHOW!!! I can't even express how excited I am to see Italian Edition. It will certainly be an experience. The deadbeats also rock out harder each time they play. - Mon, 24 Oct 2005 6:16pm

i think all bosevus shows are going to be 8 dollars from now on.. i may be misteaken though. bands need to make profit now.. especially those who are fortunate enough to go out and tour. It sucks but thats the way it is.. I'm also sure Matt likes seening coin for all his hard work.. he deserves it - Tue, 25 Oct 2005 1:32am

Yeah, shows are most likely going to be $8 from now on. When you think about it, it is only $2 a band. And the bands are always worth it. - Tue, 25 Oct 2005 8:32am

8 bucks is still cheaper than a movie, and a show is usually way better than a movie. So it's deffenetly worth it. - Tue, 25 Oct 2005 9:03am

Well said, Scott.

Besides, the price of everything goes up over time. Unfortunate as it may be, shows are no different.

While $8 may seem like a lot, when you think about it in terms of the big picture, it's actually pretty decent. Minimum wage in BC is $8, and if you're unwilling to spend an hour's wages on a local all-ages show, to be quite honest I'm not entirely sure why you're on this message board in the first place. - Tue, 25 Oct 2005 2:27pm

8 bucks is a fair price.
this saturday at gary oak there is five bands for 8 dollars, and even better its only 6 if you wear a costume, cause this is a HALLOWEEN HOOTENANY! haha,

I hope that everyone saves their money this weekend. Yes, my new band formed from pillars of the all-ages scene of days gone by is playing. (Think of the potential Lythic Blue reunion.)
But, seriously- theset. Even if you don't like their music you like their live show. Cedric, I mean Martin in tight pants is just too hot to deny. And if you LIKE their tunes you're - set?
Then, of course you have the deadbeats, that are not only living up to but surpassing the potential I thought they had.
And does anyone remember the days when Daryl's Grocery Bag would play at the gary oak room? Well you don't have to, because the Rocky Fortune are coming to town!
And THEN!
HRP, BTS (Bachman Turner Superdrive), AR, PC, and CB!!!!
Plus it's halloween.

What are you going to dress up as?
I guess it won't be expensive whatever it is. - Thu, 27 Oct 2005 11:37pm

"How many dollars a band for both shows?"

some incalculable number of dollars beyond human comprension would be my guess...... Sounds like we will need the Jefferson Starship to travel to the nether regions of the universe to find someone or something capable of interpreting our number such that they could explain it to us in a manner that wouldn't cause an aneurysm. - Fri, 28 Oct 2005 12:24am
