Hey everyone,

It's awhile since we've posted on here. The last time was when we were playing the guessing game about Neville Staple. But in the meantime as you wait for that show, come down to Central Bar & Grill to check out the artists that will be blessing our Island for an unforgettable night of reggae/roots and dancehall vibes!

The Jamaican Reggae Legend SUGAR MINOTT with his crew JUS GOODIE, the talented and astetically pleasing PASHON) & ITAWE are confirmed to play at Central Bar & Grill on Sunday, October 23rd/05.

This is a rare opportunity to see artists from both the old and new school. SUGAR MINOTT spent much of his time recording at Coxsone Dodd's Studio One.Establishing himself as a unique artist with a rich voice and exciting stage presence, Sugar has gone on to record for a number of myriad of producers as well as producing a number albums for his own Youthman Promotions Label. Sugar has always been a strong believer in his roots and has put alot of money and energy into his Youthman Promotions Studio and label in Kingston where he grew up.

As a result many artists that are very popular today got their chance to show their talents through Youthman Promotions' releases and shows. Sugar fostered the talents of reggae greats Half Pint, the late Tenor Saw and many others as well as recording records for reggae greats such as the late Garnett Silk, Tony Rebel and Yami Bolo.

It is rare that Sugar Minott would bless us with his presence... I'm telling you usually you'd only see him play at major reggae festivals such as Reggae on the River or the Sierra World Music Festival in Nevada but fortunetely he has decided to finally bless us by coming here.

Both Atomique and the Victoria BC Ska Society are proud to bring these esteemed artists to Victoria.

Tickets for this show will also be really cheap (under $20) and will be available at Lyle's Place and other local outlets shortly.

Let's get ready to witness some quality reggae on Sunday, October 23, 2005 @ Central Bar & Grill. More information will be posted about the other performers shortly.

To listen to all or some of these artists tune into the following reggae and ska radio shows on CFUV 101.9FM

Skankster's Paradise every Saturday 2:30pm - 3:30pm
Pepperpot every Saturday 6pm - 7pm
Alive and Dread every Saturday 7pm - 9pm

Loads of people we've spoken to are really excited about this show. Sugar Minott hasn't been to Victoria in over 10 years. Tickets will go on sale shortly at Lyle's Place, Ditch Records, Caribbean Village, Central Bar & Grill & Ticketweb.com

All tickets are $18 when purchased in advance.

Make sure to get them early cause the show could sell out. It's the same situation as the Mikey Dread show... Wait till the last minute and you could find yourself without a ticket... - Tue, 4 Oct 2005 1:42am

Jus Goodie works a lot with Rocker T. He is known as a wicked rhythm and lead guitarist and a producer, writing music for his own album - Freedom Song, and contributing to Rocker T’s latest album, “Hold on Strong”. Jus Goodie regularly tours as guitarist and backup vocalist for Rocker T, and serves as his opening act. Both artists are well known in the New York ska/dancehall scene. What can we say? Well, the show was more than amazing... The band was super tight and all the performers were SUPER SOLID! Pashon was especially pleasing with her toasting and singing up there. She was definetely asthetically pleasing to boot! We didn't know King Jazzy was also on the bill until showtime which was a nice surprise. He gave us some nice dancehall vibes on the best reggae riddims old and new.

The crowd was also hype and danced for the full 2 and a half hour program that was continous from 10:30pm - 1am. It was a wicked turnout for a Sunday night. The dancefloor and the rest of the bottom level of the venue was full and there some people enjoying the festivities from the upper balcony that was also open for those that wanted to watch from a distance.

All in all everyone was very pleased indeed!

Thanks to everyone who attended and helped to produce the show. Thanks to everyone's support there will be more reggae shows on the regular on the Island.

Always check WWW.VICTORIASKAFEST.CA for updates on Victoria BC Ska Society current presentations from now on.
