O-M-G Zion-I was off the wall!!!
Ok, this was my first ever time in Sugar, didn't know what to expect. I like the layout of that place, alot... the sound was good, the dancefloor is pretty sweet, everything was great except for the 5,25$ beers!! Tap OR bottle... ouch!

The bill promised an eclectic show, the opening acts we're decent but, in all honesty, it was all a blur for me...
I was there for Zion-I.
I STILL can't believe they weren't the headliners, these guys are for real, they've been my fave hip hop act since I first saw them in 2000 in Ottawa. Their whole reputation is built on their live shows, and they didn't dissapoint. They came out flying with Zion bouncing all over the place, they came to do business, they made all these mellow tracks from their catalogue sound so hyped up! Zion's support mc was also pretty tight. These guys have to be the most slept on hip hop act in the industry. What a performance!

...K'Naan is a captivating voice who brings some nice rootsy/folksy African flavours to the floor, but he was almost an anti-climax for me, Zion-I left me so hyped I was having to slow myself down and get into a different groove when K'Naan came on. Not to take anything away from K'Naan, he was great, he sounds as good live as on album, maybe even a tad better live, but... I fell victim to Zion-I's incredible energy.

Overall an awesome show fronted by two very talented music entities. If the promoters of that show ever read this, then; PLEASE PLEASE BOOK ZION-I to headline a show SOON! Again and again!!

Interesting footnote; Except for one hook to this one song, we we're never told to throw are hands in the air and wave them like we just don't care and we we're never asked to remind the mc's what their names we're... thank god!
No need to do all that stuff if your actual material/energy takes care of getting the crowd in there.
