What are you talking about? its only a mere seven minutes of a pentatonic scale. - Sat, 17 Sep 2005 11:54am

It's not bad, at some points the drummer is lagging quite a bit especially at the start of the song with the bass drum beats. It sounds like if you took a doors track and instead of jim singing he would be playing guitar, but in a live setting and we know how that ends up. If you played a little more with majors and minors to create a different mood, something a little more chilling it would be really great. - Sat, 17 Sep 2005 12:16pm

I feel kind of bad for acidwash, my band, although moving away from the classic rock sound, still has alot of classic rock influence. The majority of the victoria music scene does not appreciate this style, which kind of sucks. However, this song kind of drags, it could use a little shape, a little shorter, more energy, less noodling, theres only so much solo ons song can have, and switch up the feel at least slightly, cuz it isnt very distinct where the changes from verse to chorus happen. Although vocals usually help this out, a listener still should be able to to tell without vocals. - Sun, 18 Sep 2005 6:14pm

I have found that the fan base for victoria shows is largerly of people that find distorted music to be dull and overplayed kind of music snobbish (not even a word but you can figure it out)if you will. Which i think is just horrible to be so oppinionated like that. Ive read many posts in the past that have had quotes of somewhere along the lines of "i can't stand all these led zeppelin style bands here, its so lame why can't they think of something new to do" but in all reality i highly doubt that any of the other bands in the city are really pioneering there own sound, with maybe the exception of a few like the switchblade valentines. To me the music that im hearing sounds like the same bands just with different singing, but i don't hate it.

What im trying to get at is donkey, if you like to play classic rock, play classic rock, in fact i love it, guitar solos rule. And there is plenty more to this Island than just victoria scene. In duncan my band pulls about 100 people (hard rock, Dead City Radio). At a show with kickback we pulled 120, i think total tickets sold, at the garage. Don't play what everyone else in canada is going for cause by now you'll just be catching the tail end. And isn't music supposed to be played the way the creator wants it to be played. Don't "sell out" because some emo kids don't like your music. Believe me, there are tons of people in Victoria that would love for a bad ass rock band to be playing, just most of us don't know about them because they don't even bother with gigs because they don't wanna see singers wearing scarfs with sweaters and turtlenecks and singing like steve bays, real music, nothing pop influenced cause music these days is actually kind of garbage, with only a few good bands towards mainstream. - Mon, 19 Sep 2005 11:23am

Although we still like rocking out the classic rock style, we are certainly not moving way from that soun d due to pressure from the music scene. Our music tastes are changing, and our sound is evolving. I totally agree with you about the victoria music scene, if you are trying to playa classic rocky sound, and you dont play bar shows, its really fucking hard to get gigs. There are actually way more kids that listen to jimi hendrix then that listen to emo and hardcore and all that, but they just dont go to live shows, it kind of sucks. - Mon, 19 Sep 2005 9:43pm

exactly, when i think of the victoria music scene i only really see emo in my head, but that is a broad specter of music that i have put in that genre, scremo, "the" bands and bands that aren't loud. If maybe venues started promoting rock shows as rock shows then there might be a little more interest from those people. - Mon, 19 Sep 2005 11:14pm

saying every band in victoria is emo sounds kind of ridiculous...thats like saying every band in victoria is good....zing.

and also...before you say that their aren't bands with original sounds in victoria go listen to some of the bands in your city that are really making it..ie. hank and lily, shapes and sizes, immaculate machine...but i guess those bands aren't really classic rock. - Tue, 20 Sep 2005 10:00pm

I didn't say that all bands are emo, what i said is that when i think of the victoria music scene i only see emo in my head, not rock n roll, not metal, not blues or punk, but more emo. I know there is a variety or different bands in victoria, im in one of them, ive been to a few other shows aswell that aren't emo, but its kind of a stereotype for victoria in my oppinion. Oh and by emo im meaning bands that aren't in the rock/pop, metal, punk, country, rap, blues, jazz, or easy listening genres. - Wed, 21 Sep 2005 12:07am

wow sounds like this thread is dominated by kids who only get their ideas of what new music is from much music and kids that only show up to an all ages show once in a blue moon when a band like kincaide or theset or some other wellknown band plays, the fact is you guys don't know nearly enough about the victoria music scene to be stereo typing it in anyway. As for rock shows , you are right though , the kids who are into those kinda of genres aren't generally interested in all ages show, or they simply don't know about them. As for the song , waaaayyyy too fucking long, its not that bad though just not my thing . It gets really boring really quickly. - Thu, 22 Sep 2005 6:01pm

by the way , the switchblade valentines are definately not pioneering their own sound. they are intentionally mimicking 50's style rock-a-billy.which is not a bad thing by any means. - Thu, 22 Sep 2005 6:14pm

But adding a punk side to it, which yeah isn't really pioneering a sound, but bring it back, but it hasn't been a sound for a while, so its new i would think - Thu, 22 Sep 2005 11:11pm

Ok, then that just adds to the original point, that being the mainstream music of victoria right now bashing rock and roll bands because they are just copying other bands, such as led zeppelin, guns n roses, aerosmith.....
The big bands of victoria are doing the same - Sat, 24 Sep 2005 2:27pm
