heres my advice to the promoter: Get Meshuggah to play a 3 hour set. The rest of these bands suck. Thank you. - Mon, 29 Aug 2005 1:50pm

replace Mnemic w/ COB and that show is priceless.

Mnemic... as much as I like em, they didn't do that great of a show, even tho they were the only band that somewhat sounded like Meshuggah.

The Haunted and God Forbid were not really worth it in my opinion. They were just too generic, sounded nothing like Meshuggah.

Meshuggah absolutely destroyed everything.
I partially agree with Nik's original statement. - Tue, 25 Oct 2005 2:57pm

Its been 3 days and I'm still absolutely lit up over Meshuggah. That was the first time I've seen them and one of the most impressive displays I've EVER seen. It was surprising to see what showmen they were on top of all that more cerebral stuff going on. The singer was totally captivating and the guitarists just came off like regular metal guys - not pretentious looking or old or odd and just getting into it. The light show was well done too (except that long, empty voicebox(?) part sucked!).

Anyway, I was prepared to be astounded, but not prepared to be banging my head throughout the show! Also was pretty amazed that there were only 3 parts where I just didn't get what they were doing - where it was so chaotic and seemingly unconnected that I couldn't feel it. The rest of the time I always found where I could ground myself in a 4/4 or something and not be thrown off by all the crazy shit dancing over top of it. Absolutely fucking amazing. It braught to mind all those words I hear metalheads use to describe shows.. brutality, devastation.. this is the only show I can say truly lived up to those words.

I kept counting pegs.. 8 on each guitar, and 6 on the bass? And a pretty minimal kit, for what was coming off it. It all came off smooth and effortless.. it just was not tough to get into!

And I got to see it with some good friends/favorite musicians, who're all influenced in a big way by M, so that made my night. One girl came out simply because she'd read some Meshuggah lyrics. I thought that was cool, since their lyrics had never occurred to me. The sounds were all new to her though, haha.

The Haunted were pretty powerful too, and I'd see them again in a second. I was pretty amazed at people up and leaving after their set though - true, they provided all one would need for a great night, but it was Meshuggah headlining for hell's sake! God Forbid didn't do a thing for me and we missed the first band cuz my friend wanted to grab a beer upstairs. - Thu, 27 Oct 2005 11:44am

well, maybe if someone in charge did this promotion shit right, we wouldn't have one thread announcing 2 seperate shows to fuck everything up!

Gramma, your review was bang on.. it really was ALL about Meshuggah.. sigh. - Fri, 28 Oct 2005 9:02pm
