Neil User Info... | I'd like to see what people are using for their style of music, so list your style(s) and the bridge pickup in your guitar(s). I'll start... I play mostly extreme metal. PRS Standard 22 - SD Dimebucker PRS Santana SE - SD Custom Custom PRS Santana SE - Bareknuckle Nailbomb Ibanez 7321 - Dimarzio ToneZone 7 . - Tue, 23 Aug 2005 7:10am
Lucius User Info... | Hey man, how is that ToneZone7? I've been thinking about changing the pickups in my 7321. Just want some more clarity. Also, how much was it? Cheers Lucius - Tue, 23 Aug 2005 7:55am
Neil User Info... | Beefy. I’d say the EQ curve would look like an upside down smile with quite a mid-hump. What it lacks in attack it makes up for in thickness. I don't think you'll get clarity from it but the sustain easily kills the stock pickup. It was $100 at L&M. - Tue, 23 Aug 2005 9:07am
evilkleg User Info... | I'm using a Bill Lawrence L500 in my main axe and I love it. Very hot sound. And I'm using a Dimarzio evolution 7 (Steve Vai) in my seven string which is high output but maybe not as crushing as I would have liked for metal. I might put it in the neck and get something different for the bridge. Last year I ordered a Bill Lawrence L500XL from their website (for my Warlock) and after tax and shipping it was $82 cdn delivered to my front door. A way better deal than L&McQ. - Tue, 23 Aug 2005 11:03am
Robnöxious User Info... | My brother swears by EMG 81's in the bridge (active pick-ups) but I prefer standard Gibson PAF's as I find the break into feedback in a more natural and controllable way. - Thu, 25 Aug 2005 7:16pm
XJAyX User Info... | I play straight up hardcore and always run EMG81s in the bridge position. I've used stock gibson pick ups, the high end epiphone pick ups (basically the same sound as the chrome covered gibson pick ups), seymour duncans, and whetever the pick ups were in my charvel when I got it, but the EMG 81 blows them all away. It's not as heavy as the EMG85 but it still more than holds it's own in the chug department, and it's hotter than the 85. I also only run tube amps and use the amp for all of the distortion so I really like a hot pick up to drive the pre amp really hard. With non active pick ups I was using a tube screamer set up as a clean boost, but after going active I'm never going back, at least not for hardcore. - Tue, 30 Aug 2005 12:28pm
XY-SATAN User Info... | I have EMG 81 in bridge and EMG 85 active pup’s in neck, with 5 way toggle switch on my ESP LTD MH-250nt . Low chunks with pinch screaming highs and combining switch ! If it's heavy, active EMG’s (IMHO and others) are the shiznit ! Some people do a 81/85,81/81,81/60,etc. combo, depending on what you like . But I think your amp should be number #1 as well . Pickups are cheap, amps aren’t ! My amp sucks at power, but has a million bellz and whistles, plus midi and studio/recording capabilities . But it only sounds good at full volume (just barely, by yourself ) or kicks it with head phones on . ODIN User Info... | where did you buy the bareknuckle pickup? i really want to buy a warpig! P.S. EMG-81s (bridge) are the shit for hi-gain and i really like the 85s clean tone (neck) - Tue, 30 Aug 2005 9:14pm
Nik Olaz User Info... | I PLAY THE ZMH 59555.10 WITH A STANDARD KICK PATCH AND GAUSS FILTER. - Tue, 30 Aug 2005 10:04pm
Neil User Info... | I had the EMG 81/85 set in my PRS for years and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it (I really like how hard it would hit the preamp; you could turn a JC-120 into a death metal amp!), I just wanted a new flavor. I got the Bareknuckle from the guy that builds them; Frakin' expensive! It's hot and has a very organic sound. Next I'm going to send my old IBZ V77 in for rewinding to warpig specs. What's a ZMH 59555.10? - Wed, 31 Aug 2005 6:03am
ML7Mike User Info... | EMG 81 in both my main guitars I currently have a Seymour Duncan Full Shred in my rarely used Mockingbird too. - Wed, 31 Aug 2005 10:17am
