for the second time in 2 skafests i lost my fucking black backpack, any hints to where this piece of shit may be would be sweet. I remeber an apartment with like 30 or so people passed out. Other than that my memory is fucked. I bailed harcore on the road... god damn that was awsome. - Sun, 17 Jul 2005 12:14pm

Was anyone else the least bit bothered by the crazy wet funk in the curling club? The show was AMAZING, but breathing was a problem!!! Women who had the urge to pee were also in a lurch...I'm pretty sure there was a fair share of urine on the floor in there! Nasty venue, would have been a fantastic outdoor show... - Sun, 17 Jul 2005 1:32pm

brandon, i'm pretty sure you didn't have a back pack when you were at that apartment, although maybe it is still in the hedge you bailed on. you might want to check that out.

hahahhaha fuck we gotta have another party like that real damn soon. I actually passed out at the jam spot 2 nights in a row.

Jesse- I did find your dickies jacket, it was beside the mixer. 1 out of 2 items lost have been found. Someone write a tune about it. I'll do the ooh's or maybe a few woooooaaahhhs or some sha la la la's.

Hmmmm, that back pack had the last girls onedrop tee we have left in it, as well as several CD's. I just want the pack back. The tee is a size small, white with red graphic, there are two small spots on it a green and a blue. I gotta stop mixing my damn boozer like that. The free beers at the curling club didn't hurt, mmmmmmmm free beers at skafest.

I recall being trapped in a parking area, and something about a fence. So where is this hedge??? - Mon, 18 Jul 2005 1:48pm

I'll write a song about it.....

(To the tune of Wasted Days)

I had a coat - and it felt so cozy
I had a blue one - and things seemed so rosy

but then I drank to much
I woke up and it was gone
I wondered where did things go wrong

and then I remembered...

what did I that
made me so coatless?
One drop needs a coat hook
or at least a hostess..

What I didn't do is wear that thing all night
cause now things would be alright,
but now I'm coatless

(horn solo)

Don't get me wrong the chapelle jokes were funny
The booze was so good it tasted like honey

But now I'm sorry for all the wasted thread
That morning I prayed for death
now I'm hungover & coatless.

But What Have I done that would leave me so coatless?

This is to dumb to keep going.......... - Mon, 18 Jul 2005 5:10pm

brandon: the hedge outside the apartment on quadra street...you were yelling at some people on a prosch, then you got taken out by a two foot bush. it was pretty hilarious, especially when the people on the porch started taking pictures of you laughing your ass off on the ground. ahh...good times.

WOW! We have finally recovered and still closing things out but what an awesome Victoria Ska Festival this 6th edition was. From Victor Rice to Fishbone over the four day period it was a pleasure seeing how happy people were there to listen to, see and party with their favourite ska bands and discover new ones. All the artists were super nice (some a bit scattered) but still a pleasure to party with.

Victor Rice was super dope and gave a nice kick off to the festival. His speech and dub demonstrations using the 1/2 inch 8 track reel to reel were unique and informative. His dubs kicked ass! It was nice to see him play Firebug dub and use a lot of variation on that particular dub and other dubs from his web site and albums.

On Thursday, Those Rapskallions, The Western Conference and The Makeshift Heroes were playing their rootsy ska and jazz for the almost 300 in attendance at Steamers Pub. All the bands kicked ass here and the Makeshift Heroes did a couple of encores.

Despite the rain on Friday afternoon people still showed up a little later in the day. We were amazed at the turnout with the overcast skies and early morning rain. The Allentons opened the Friday show with special guests from the Kiltlifters (Dave and Matt) on trombone and saxophone. One Drop played afterwards with a harder edge with their distinctive style of reggae/punk and then Santa Lucia LFR blew the crowd away with their Latin/ska/funk!

THE PARTY later at night on Friday WAS OFF THE HOOK!! It was one of the happiest parties ever. People were in paradise jamming with all different musicians, chatting, drinking and partying as hard as they could. Musicians from Fishbone, Mad Bomber Society, The Operators, The Kiltlifters, Those Rapskallions and the Allentons were all in attendance. Hopefully we can make the Friday night party an annual tradition!

Saturday afternoon had a great turnout and people said SGR and The Afterbeat were awesome!

And then with the Victoria Curling Club show.... What can we say? The reaction of the crowd and the music from the bands kicked ass! Everyone was having a rip roaring time (especially in the beer garden). Fisbhone especially blew a lot of people away with creating a specially crafted ska program full of funk, ska, reggae and a little bit of punk. While the lights were on at the end Fishbone gave us a special treat by playing "Party at Ground Zero". They also played other hits throughout the night including "Ma and Pa" and Unyielding Conditioning + DATE RAPE!! (tribute song to Sublime) which caused Ras 1 from Long Beach Shortbus to break into tears of joy back stage.

Fishbone were soooo happy to play at the Victoria Ska Festival and are eager to come to the Island in the future. There were an estimated 1400 - 1500 people in the Victoria Curling Club on Saturday night which made this year's grand finale concert the highest attended in the history of the Victoria Ska Festival.

We are already working to make next year's festival equally or more exciting. People are already anticipating next year but in the meantime look out for other productions by the Victoria BC Ska Society this fall:)
