Social Code: i really liked these guys, i loved that thing the drummer had that just shook the whole damn place up
ALEXISONFIRE!!: my fucking god i love them. they really got the crowd going, HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRIS!!

Leslie, you're just bitter that you didn't get in. I wasn't there for Moneyshot. Whatever. Social Code were okay. Whatever. Alexisonfire was good. I had fun, it was an enjoyable night, though maybe not worth 20$. - Thu, 14 Jul 2005 7:05am

Not a fan of Moneyshot.
Social Code were ok. They made fun of Moneyshot which made me laugh.
Alexisonfire was wicked. I wish their set would have been a bit longer though.

I didn't go because, well, $20 seems like a bit much for something that can be just as great for $6. I've seen Moneyshot before, and maybe the reason people didn't like them here as much is because they definatly have a rock lean to them. Never heard the Social Code, but I think I've seen a video by them played on Muchmusic or something, so that is that. I'm sure Alexisonfire (the Greenday of screamo if you will) pleased all those guys and girls whose parents' just don't "get" them.
Actually, I've never seen them live, so my opinion is invalid to this thread. - Thu, 14 Jul 2005 1:25pm

I enjoyed what I saw of Moneyshot - whish I'd arrived a bit earlier. Social Code sucked. Alexis on Fire were great - I'm not a big fan of their CD, but they had an awesome live show. - Thu, 14 Jul 2005 1:49pm

"Alexisonfire (the Greenday of screamo if you will) pleased all those guys and girls whose parents' just don't "get" them."

there's actually pretty much no similarity between alexisonfire and true screamo. other than the presence of screaming but even then the screaming is a lot different. it's true they're very pop-influenced. even so, I enjoy them. and I can't say that about a lot of similar bands to them so maybe they're doing something right?

but I'm sure all the scenesters who stood outside and made fun of them gained some scene points, and that's all that matters right? - Thu, 14 Jul 2005 2:21pm

That's why I reffered to them as the Greenday of screamo. Greenday are sort of seen as the face of popunk (true or not), even though popunk is a very varied genre (Most of it sucks, but it's got some good stuff.) - Thu, 14 Jul 2005 3:11pm

Moneyshot fucking rules. Sorry if they don't have faux hawks, they are just men.

Social Code will be opening up for Good Charlotte next month, that might explain them a bit better for you. Nice guys, decent pop, professional (signing autographs, taking pictures, and all that good stuff). The show was for kids... and the kids are alright.

Best Alexisonfire show that I've seen. They sound best live. Made me crack out and dust off my Watch Out record today.

The person that described them as the Greenday of Screamo... that sounds about right.

theset or Kincaide would have been a more natural local openner to me. still, I loves my Moneyshot. - Thu, 14 Jul 2005 4:46pm

that show was wicked! moneyshot was as impressive as usual, the new songs were cool, espacially sophia, rockin tune. social code were good, i enjoyed when the sound techs had to turn the monitors around for the crowd to hear, good improv. good crowd interaction. alexisonfire, i saw them last time at the commodore. the energy from these guys is unreal. steele is insane on stage just gazing off into nowhere. the new drummer was wicked he did a fine job that night. all in all this show was great although i wish it would have lasted a bit longer - Sat, 16 Jul 2005 8:40am

Alexisonfire ripped shit up as usuall, the people who disagree should try taking their head out of their ass next time they go see a show and acctually watch the music. - Sun, 17 Jul 2005 3:40pm

I'd have to agree with Mr James! I'm 35 and I fuckin loved Alexisonfire. Not many of you kids out there seem to understand what it takes to play with that kind of energy and still stay true to your music! There are not many bands (actually not one that I've seen from Victoria) that can keep up that intensity and play their instuments that well, and keep their time and pitch that tight? Yeah there are lots of really intense bands in Vic, but that tight? NO. I will admit that I haven't seen all the bands here in town, but I have seen the majority of all the most well known and popular bands in almost all styles of music, but we're kinda talkin Harcore, punk, metal scene here. Everyone likes something different from their live experience ( as we've seen discussed here on Livevic recently ) and for me I want to see intensity and energy as well as the music being tight and precise. Straight Up........AOF delivers! Too short a set though!! I also think that is the coolest venue in this city! It should be open for a few more months a year and give more (local) bands a chance to play there. - Mon, 18 Jul 2005 12:53pm

Mr Tambo, I have in fact seen AK47 live and yes they are intense and tight, and happen to be one of my personal favs in the scene, but in my opinion the night I saw them about a year ago they were not as tight and crushing as AOF. Yes 4 years of touring will get you very tight, so it is an unfair advantage. I will get another chance to see them live soon though, seeing as my band will be playing with them on Aug 14th. (Tentatively) There are others posting in here who play in bands that I have seen very recently that are simply not tight at all. I just think that if you hate the music...fine, thats cool. But if you cant play live better than AOF yourself than how can you slag it? - Tue, 19 Jul 2005 10:51am

SLOPPY MUSIC IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO BRAM. IT'S TR00 KVLT.

but i feel i can slag this band because it is part of a popular music outlet.

and yes Mito is never tight. i'm glad we arent because i dont like tightness, we're loose like mother goose. jeez just come out and SAY IT i wont take offense. - Tue, 19 Jul 2005 2:15pm
