| Vegas J User Info... | Hey anyone who's kinda thinking grabbing one of these ( mactac I'm thinking of you) should seriously consider it...I have one, use it in NUVOWAVO and at my old studio as a master board and it's a TOTAL quality synth, the case is metal & brushed aluminum, the keyboard itself is AWESOME to play, and the sounds are crystal-clear, totally noise-free and the machine comes with full on effects and sounds you'll NEVER hear on any other board around. | moron User Info... | Hey Jason. The quick answers are no and no. This is a unique digital synth which excels at digital, electronic sounding textures though it can do some other stuff as well. Think electronica, ambient, industrial, IDM, etc. I believe that the keyboard has 60 keys (it's smaller than my EX5 so that is likely it). Semi-weighted I would call it. Good luck finding a hammer action controller for what I am asking for the K5000s. =) You could likely get organ type patches out of it (additive section plus effects) but there is no piano. | Tyler User Info... | Jason, you're a synth player! in counting heartbeats anyway, right? In my eyes weighted keys are just trying to emulate the action of pianos. It results in a feel that is similar to a piano, which I guess could be good if you took piano lessons and didn't want to learn something new. But non-weighted keys allow for a lot more technical versatility... no weight to limit your speed or anything. Maybe the dynamic control is a little more difficult but it's not hard to adjust to. I've never tried "semi weighted" keys. Are they just pretty much like non-weighted keys with a full body (like actual sides) instead of a surface? | moron User Info... | I'm calling them semi-weighted just because they are more substantial action wise than most synths I have played. I believe that Fatar made the keyboard if that makes any difference. Looking around online I see a mix of "synth action" and "semi-weighted" descriptions so go figure. | The Box Drone User Info... | Is that thing really as much a bitch to program as people say? Cause that's the right price for damn sure... but with the job & the kid I don't get much time to sit down and make music, let alone learn how to use hardware. I almost sold my SP-808 because I didn't have time to figure it out, and it isn't really all that complicated. So yeah... that's a big factor for me. | Vegas J User Info... | Hey BD...no it's actually easy to program..it's just like an analog synth, DCO,DCF,DCA...the diff is you use additive synthesis ie 128 harmonic frequencies&their amplitudes to establish the initial waveform. Very much like the DX7 , most people including myself will find a "close to" sound & work from there. I doubt anyone other than Kawai gurus would be starting from absolute zero.
