the one with no shoes is a white elf, they are very fast runners in bare feet, they can also climb the shit out of a tree. they extra long toes like fingers that help them climb like a monkey. If a wizard puts a elevation spell on them they can traverse an entire forest by running through the tree tops. white elves are know to be friends with men creatures, wizards and sometimes dwarves. and of course the women folk find there thin girlish figure attractive. the elves usually tollerate the company of women but they find them dirty and quite whorish. they tend like to stick with there own kind when it comes to sleeping and of course sex. since they white elves consist entirely of males were are not sure how they reproduce or if they only exsist through magic alone. - Sat, 2 Jul 2005 8:45am

Yes...YES IT IS. :) And yes we will play like this :) Julian is a character, he actually likes to play barefoot, but the brutal honesty is that he brought his runners (haha, we're so fucking organized :P) so he had to go barefoot.

Now, considering I have an astronomy dregree (which actually requires a bit of physics, and hence, REALISM,) do I actually believe I have to ability to levitate while sending psionic messages to the kingdom of yore to conquer the badlands of Broad St so I can fill up my crack supply? Well, to the dipshits that actually believe that people kill people because D&D-deities told them to, I'll leave that to your contemplation in deep muse.

It's called dressing up dipshits, we play PAGAN metal. If I went to the theatre to see people "performing" medieval sequences with torn-up jeans and t-shirts I wouldn't take them very seriously either. If you don't like it and think that's gay, and that "metal has no place for this cheesy shit," that's fine, I've heard it all before (especially from the ones who slag certain bands...and then buy their CD's and go to their shows :P) I happen to worship cheese-metal so it just all goes to show where we stand.

But if you think we're doing this to be "cool," or the next "Rhapsody," you seriously need to get a fucking grip. Are you really all that occupied with image? - Sun, 3 Jul 2005 9:57pm

Fuckin A! Are we the only fucking musical people on the island who realize that metal can be more than just blast beats and hair whipping around? Our show is a "performance", not just a concert. It wouldn't kill the other fucking metal bands of Vic to add a stage show to their music (excluding already awesome bands like The Enchanted Faeries and Mitochondrion). We like to have fun with our music and enrapture ourselves in everything pagan metal stands for. Do we play too much D&D? Probably. Do we give a fuck if the "hardcore" scene thinks its cheesy? Fuck no. Manowar, Rhapsody, Lost Horizon, Immortal, Gorgoroth and Nattefrost (Commander Roger Rassmussen), among many others all do the cheese metal thing, and they are all awesome bands.

Who in their honest opinion really wants to see another local bands promo photos where they are standing there like every other metal geek in their camo-pants and Nile t-shirt giving the horns with both hands like their so fucking original.

Expand your fucking horizons people! Don't take metal so fucking seriously. Its just a style of music.

It wouldn't surprise me if most of you people probably had an extensive collection of burned CD-R's.

I FULLY agree with the fact that a metal performance should supercede jeans and a t-shirt. If I wanted to see that I would just go watch bands jam. That's why bullet belts, spikes, flames, swords, etc. etc. etc. (and in some cases pink mini-skirt Star Trek uniforms) BELONG in metal. Some call it "ritual" and others call it just that much more entertaining.

Some of the pictures are a bit humourous BUT that last one is pretty fucking epic!

So play more shows you bastards, it's been since, what, that all ager in NANAIMO???? - Mon, 4 Jul 2005 8:06am

Oftenbongsoong, your attitude towards our new photos is exactly the attitude we're going for!! It's just so depressing that the local punk/metal scene is so closed-minded that they consider it the height of lame to add (god forbid) theatrics to a bands show.

We like what we do and we're proud of it. We feel that this recent change to our image is a great improvement and allows us to have more of a defined style (for those people who think the bands look has anything to do with their music).

Ya we know its cheesy. Thats the point. We laugh at it ourselves, but we still believe it heeds the call of metal. Think whatever you want. We have fun doing what we do, and thats all thats important.

Who is the one dressing up in costumes here? If you didn't care about image you most likely wouldn't have photos like that let alone post photos of your band.

Also to Mr. Jaron Evil: Do realize not the entire metal "scene" of Victoria and the Island post on this board or even bother to read it. So for you to make a generalization about how everyone is so close minded is just non sense. - Mon, 4 Jul 2005 3:45pm

Just let it slide Jaron , there's always going to be people who will rip into you if they have the chance . Fukum , be true to yourself and expect criticism . Musician can be the hardest critics on others and especially themselves. I know it's hard not to take it personally, being that you work hard and put yourself out there . But what doesn't kill you can only make you stronger … or write darker tunes ! !
I've been reading this post for a few days and was wondering when it would start getting ugly .I don't think people were trying to be malicious on purpose , just maybe having a giggle at the picks , but when the first person comes in with a derogatory comment the rest of the jackals will fallow suit , yea see it on every message board . But you knew that already, so who fucking cares ? I could name a few on here with cheesy band photos ! LOL ! Ok more then a few ! - Mon, 4 Jul 2005 6:51pm

Enough people leaving negative comments to form maybe 2.5 bands does not constitute the 'local punk/metal scene' so dont be too depressed about it. - Mon, 4 Jul 2005 8:02pm

Someone asked for SoS to dress up like farmers...I couldn't resist posting my favorite band picture of all time again...the insane Lugubrum!

Having spent a good part of my 11 year "career" in metal wearing corpsepaint, spikes and having a human femur dangling from my bass, all while creating a good old storm of trueness on stage, I think I know enough about the relative importance of image in metal.

Even if you don't take it seriously yourself and do it all in good fun, which is great, you are creating an image for yourself and I'm afraid that this will people take you not seriously AS A BAND. You are serious about the music you create right?

In Europe this get-up might still work, I don't think it will really get things stirring over here, or even locally, imo. Well we kind of witnessed that in this topic.

And I don't think it looks particularly pagan, let alone it embodies "everything that pagan metal stands for", it's more in the fantasy/gothic area, but that's a personal opinion. Take Enslaved around Frost and Eld, now that looks pagan.

Though personally I reached the point where even just that pair of jeans and a metal shirt are often too much of an image, if you're proud of what you're doing and like it that way then keep doing exactly that. - Mon, 4 Jul 2005 9:40pm

Oh fuck, I'd be surprised if nobody laughed, these photos BEG for roasting, especially from punkers?!?! Hahaha, that's no surprise at all. I still laugh my ass off to the band pics of Immortal in "At the Heart of Winter," (which is on my top 10 albums.)

Disrupt has a point though, and it was actually my fault for not finishing my question..."Are you all really all that occupied with image...when reviewing/listening to a band/CD?"

Whenever I criticize something, I actually give musical criticism, which I don't really hear too often. I usually hear the Donkey-Kong-Locker-Room shit like, "it's not brutal enough, these guys are fags, you won't catch me listening to this shit." And then next thing you know, they have 3 of their albums because "it's cool." I've seen it happen, I guess the comments just brought that whole, all-image/no musical "criticism" that so-called "metalheadz" use to "adjudicate/rate" CDs.

But it's still my fault for being a bit snappy, because this thread's based on the photos, not the music. It's also my fault for accessing livevic once again expecting actual musical reviews instead of tinkertoy-shit talk.

But unlike what some people might think, I love it when people talk/post harsh shit about us, because the more they do that...the bigger we get :) Keep it coming :) - Mon, 4 Jul 2005 10:24pm

I have to say these silly pictures worked for me. Yeah, I think they're silly, but whatever. I'm not in the band, and as long as you guys are into it, more power to ya. But it's because of the pics that I went to your website and checked out your MP3s. It's not my thing, the Pagan metal. So not like I know what I'm talking about, but it sounds like you guys are pretty good at it. The production needs work, but that's the only thing I can comment on before I start talking out of my ass. Plus 99% of local indy CD's need work on that, so it's not really a valid criticism. Having said all that, I wish I could play with those chops. Rock on! - Tue, 5 Jul 2005 8:24am

yes, I giggled when I first saw these photos, but hey, who doesn't like a little cheese now and then.
My only criticism is about the quality of the photos, it looks like they were taken on somebody's cheap automatic camera! (i'm not trying to sound like a bitch, by the way)
The person taking the photos was too far away so there's just too much backround and the band members are undetailed and kinda blurry(and yes, I've taken into account there are 7 of them!). I like the backround in the third but again it should have been cropped a bit, plus the girl is standing slightly away from the group and for some reason that bugs me visually. - Tue, 5 Jul 2005 3:17pm

I don't think it's bitchy, I consider all of these to be valid critiques.

These photos that you see are actually all taken with a digital camera, and yes, they are shitty, these ones were taken strictly for fun and to fuck around (the blurry one was taken when the battery was dying.)

We do actually have a shitload of real band photos (3 of each member and 2 of the band) that were taken with an actual real quality camera ('sla,' or 'slr,' or whatever the fuck they're called, I don't know much about photography/cameras.) I specifically asked Jaron to not post any of these photos as I don't want to spoil the 'surprise' for the new website.

Oh yeah, that's right, the 'new website.' Ravendusk (aka Alexandra Bach,) band photographer for Seth (signed to Osmose Productions,) and webmistress for Anorexia Nervosa (previously signed to Osmose Productions, signed to Listenable now,) after receiving some of my compliments on her work, checked out our music and offered to do our website. I said, "Uh, duh, YEAH."

So we actually do have cool stuff coming, I just wanted to put a small taste of what's to come before we open our big mouths (I don't like to write stuff like this and not have anything to show for it,) but that's the plan. To have an idea of what Ravendusk may be doing for us in the future (when our newer band photos are released on the site,) check out these links: http://www.ravendusk.com http://www.mother-anorexia.com - Tue, 5 Jul 2005 8:39pm

I don't see any other metal bands with the cojones to get "into" the show like this. Funny, you know, there were probably small minded shits that said the same thing about Priest and Maiden back when they started. And let's face it, they put on the best metal show this side of Denmark. And to everyone that slags creativity anonymously over the internet, go stick your dick in a toaster!
