Looking into buying drum mics and/or drum triggers. Would love some recommendations on both.

I have looked at some mic kits but don't know if that's the way to go or not? Any drummers or recorders out there with experience or advice?

Thanks - Fri, 10 Jun 2005 2:47pm

First of all, there are way too many mics on the kit in that pic. When did Bob Rock write a book?

I would go for mics over triggers... - Fri, 10 Jun 2005 6:00pm

It's for Recording right now. I have mesh heads on the kit and cymbals muffled due to the fact that I live in an apartment.

I wondered if I could hook up the triggers to a program such as Reason 2.5 and use their drum samples? - Sat, 11 Jun 2005 12:25am

I saw Bob Rock's drum kit mic placement in 1992 at Little Mountain (we were recording at the sister studio (Vancouver Studios then and now Greenhouse) - he was producing Bon Jovi and we counted 23 mics including the two in the loading bay area - each mic was worth $15,000 (we were warned not to bump them) - Sun, 12 Jun 2005 9:43pm

I have had success in triggering the snare and kick and then recording with mics (I ran a midi signal into an old Mac + I have kicking around - total of 1 meg but enough to record midi!) - Sun, 12 Jun 2005 9:45pm

What triggers are you using? Are they homemade? Do you use a Alesis D4 or just a midi Hub? Any Info is appreciated. - Mon, 13 Jun 2005 10:00pm
