meh.
there's a few good tracks but it's not as good as the older stuff (parachutes= their best). it seems that they found a nice groove las album with "clocks" and just milk it throughout. simpleton lyrics as well, boo.

I disagree, if you listen to their three albums you can see a nice progression they have. Parachutes is classic and has a good mix of grooves, and a rush of blood to the head was predominantly chill. Their best song on that ablum, the scientist, was a nice ballad. In this album I must admit their is no "scientist" equivalent in the slow songs but songs like "square One, Speed of Sound, White Shadows," hell they're all good rocky songs. Their drummer decided to speed it up a bit and I like the progression. Its new but not a 180, I'm a fan. - Tue, 7 Jun 2005 7:55pm

I dunno, i've listened to it a few more times today and it still strikes me as just plain. Musically it just doesnt stand out the way Parachutes or Rush of Blood did. I think the only thing that, to me, makes this album unique and recognizeable as Coldplay is his voice.

Fix You, White Shadows, Talk, Speed of Sound... good - Tue, 7 Jun 2005 10:49pm

I know what rex is saying about "Clocks II". That is the only song I have heard off X&Y. In and of itself, I thnk Speed of Sound is a good tune but it sounds exactlly like clocks. What's the deal? - Wed, 8 Jun 2005 10:02am

LOL, I'm glad the term "Clocks II" is catching on. That's the first thing that came to mind when I first heard the new single. If it's one of the better tracks on the album, then I think I'll skip it altogether. - Wed, 8 Jun 2005 10:21am

I haven't heard the whole thing yet but while in HMV last Saturday the were previewing tracks, one of which whose melody has been wholesale lifted from Kraftwerk's "Computer World"

Doppleganger, I heard that playing in London Drugs today, and I was just about to post the same thing!
My frist thought was "A kraftwerk cover? that's kind of cool... hey... wait a minute!"
They're not too sneaky about it though, as I heard them interviewed saying that they've been listening to alot of Krafewerk & Depeche Mode.
I mean, it's nearly impossibly not to rip off a chord progression here & there, but that's a pretty specific (and note for freakin' note) melody! - Wed, 8 Jun 2005 1:43pm

a long time ago a community of people started using other peoples music in their songs, and they dubbed it sampling !

It is a direct sample from the song guys, they give credit where credits due in the album, which if people actually bought cd's these days they would know. but thats a whole other argument.

I really dig the cd. It reminds me of when u2 realesed unforgetable fire. - Wed, 8 Jun 2005 6:04pm

ah! i didn't know this was out yet! none the less, i have to disagree with the scientist being the best song on rush of blood to the head. there are far better songs than that one. parachutes is an incredible cd. speed of sound is overplayed and i'm sick of it already. - Thu, 9 Jun 2005 12:23pm

All good thoughts, (Including the fac that I need to check out this Kraftwerk cd), but I think most people are feelin that this is definitely not their best cd. - Mon, 13 Jun 2005 8:39pm

Ok... I just bought it yesterday. It is (no doubt) DOPE>

I really dig it. The Kraftwerk sample is preatty killer too.

Clocks II, as i have said before is allright. Despite.

I don't like coldplay. As a result, I give this cd a 1 out of 10. - Sun, 19 Jun 2005 10:31pm

Its ok. I think the songs are too long and i've become a bit disgruntled with the fact that they seem so preoccupied with toppling U2 as "The biggest band in the world" - makes me wonder if they've been hanging out with Noel and Liam Gallagher. My favorite is the last track on the album. - Thu, 23 Jun 2005 8:03am

i'm not going to lie; x&y's first few songs are maybe some of the best i've heard this year. all the synth orchestration is brilliant on the entire album, but the explosive, driving rythmns have been really brought up to another level.
i love square one like i loved joshua tree-era U2. which probably won't get me many points, but i think colin is correct. coldplay are becoming a HUGE (U2 like) band - i think i like chris martin's voice much better though.
the production is fairly high on the record, and i think that might bother some people. i think it serves the songs well. - Mon, 27 Jun 2005 8:59am
