Attention Bands:

Hybrid Productions is looking to showcase at least a dozen shows over the course of the summer. Our main venue will be the Victoria event center, located at 1416 broad street, across from the new vi and above coastline sports. The Center comes equipped with a modest pa that works well for the venue, and additional gear is also available. All ages shows will be the primary focus, although we will be hosting licensed shows as well.

We have already received e-mails from several touring bands who will be coming to Victoria over the course of the summer as well. We are looking to show these guys the great rock scene that Victoria has to offer.

We will be trying to keep the shows “rock” based with it’s genres. A list of genres includes:

Rock (alt, hard or otherwise)
Screamo
Punk
Metal

This will provide a great opportunity to bands who are just getting on their feet, or bands that do not have demos yet. We will provide video footage of bands that audition to help them along their way.

That sounds like a pretty unreal setup you have goin on, but im curious about the whole audition thing. Would bands that have played for you before have to audition, and when would the auditions take place? - Mon, 30 May 2005 8:46pm

Hey Liam,

No is the short answer.
We are looking for new talent that we have not seen before, maybe not even heard of. As each band contacts us, we will be booking time at the Victoria Event Center for auditions, or talking with those bands if they already have a demo or Cd to share. - Tue, 31 May 2005 5:43am

My band, Hours Before Dawn have been working with Hybrid and particularly Matteus for a while now, and i would highly recomment newer bands get in contact with him. He is offering amazing oportunities to new local talent, and it would really be your loss to pass up working with him. For example, we now have video footage up on our website http://www.hoursbeforedawn.com thanks to Matteus and he's helped us out in numberous ways already. As a very impressed and actually amazed musician who's currently working with him, i just feel it would be a shame to not recomend him. You really would be missing out by not contacting Matteus at Hybrid.

Yeah, hybrid productions is an awsome company to play for. They get lights, and huge sound. And on top of that they record the show and give you a copy of the disc. You can also check the video footage from their website http://www.hybridproductions.net/auditions - Wed, 1 Jun 2005 3:58pm

Hybrid Productions Is the Worst thing to ever happen to the victoria music scene. They book shows on the same nights as other bands just to under-cut their shows. They stole the production of our (acidwash) june, 18th show after we had already booked sound, lights, and bands such as Maurice.

Hyrbid productions then followed to kick Maurice and Acidwash off the bill.

Hybrid productions is unproffessional, and bands should definitely stay clear of Matteus and his so called production team. - Wed, 1 Jun 2005 10:16pm

That is entirely not true, acidwash was dropped from OUR show that WE booked BEFORE Hyhbrid Produtions had even been contacted, they had NOTHING to do with Acidwash being dropped. They were dropped because they were trash talking the other bands, had previously pissed off other bands on the bill that now dont want to work with them, it was a unanimous decision between a bunch of us, that had nothing to do with Matteus. acidwash being dropped had NOTHING to do with Hybrid or Matteus, you wanna start talkin shit, blame it us, better yet, blame it on yourselves for being little egotistical punks.

heyoo! its looking like a fight.

in all seriousness, the hybrid shows i've been to have been rad.. they seem to know good bands when they see them, and better yet good people. they also seem to have the fans in mind all the time, and always try and keep them interested. - Thu, 2 Jun 2005 7:27am

Seriously folks, Hybrid is the shit. Not only does Matteus completely understand musicians' needs, he strives to satisfy the fans as well. He doesn't do "shows", he does "productions". Big lights and sound, bar, professional security, kick-ass MC who'd jump off a roof onto his neck for the audience... they do EVERYTHING it takes to please a crowd.

Our experience has been completely 100% positive. It's a team effort with Hybird. Every hour we put in, Matteus puts in 3 or four... he plans/ posters/ videos/ promotes...

If you want to play some professional shows, Hybrid will deliver.

I'd say more, but then I'd just keep ranting...

Ok ok heres the scoop on Hybrid as i've seen it from attending the shows. First off the shows are GREAT for the fans. There's no doubt about the fact that it's a production that is long overdue in this town. If you're an audience member it's a good time for a decent buck.

Now if you're a band you either love it or hate it. I dont know any bands personally but it's a small city and the word travels fast with musicians. So far i've only heard of 2 lame things from Hybrid 1.Severly underpaying Kincaide for essentially making their first show a hit. Kincaide drew atleast 75% of the crowd on their own. 2.Booting Kickback off their own duncan show that they helped book the bands for. Without the 2 bands KB introduced to Hybrid (Dead City Radio and Last to Leave) that show would've flopped. Aside from that and what Colin had to say everything else i've heard has been nothing but praise (minus Cipher since Hybrid manages them and they're on most of the bills so they kinda dont count... it'd be like braggin about your own band haha). Seems to me if you're starting out Hybrid can help you. If you already established then it really doesnt seem worth the hassle. Just my 2 cents though. - Thu, 2 Jun 2005 2:23pm

When I say they stole the production of our june 18th show, I mean they took the show and kicked acidwash and maurice off the bill, after we had already done a majority of the planning for the show.

it seems they did this to kickback also. I don't mean to have this go back and forth, but this is the second time this has happened. Something had to be said.

As far as understanding musicians......... Im not sure how you would do this considering MATTEUS IS NOT A MUSICIAN. - Thu, 2 Jun 2005 3:24pm

Colin, FYI: Maurice is still on the bill; and apparently the decision to remove your band wasn't Hybrid's, so just move on, dude.

Fubarred, Matteus isn't managing our band anymore... and hasn't since March 5th (the first Hybrid show). He got busy, and we decided to bat for ourselves. The props to Matteus on our webpage is susposed to be past-tense.

I do admit to some predujice on the matter, tho, since I really enjoy the shows Hybrid does (but isn't the idea behind getting a person's opinion?).

The thing that happened with 'kickback' being kicked of the bill was, apparently, due to a missing mic that disappeared after there set. But they have since made-up to my understanding, since they might be doing a show together at the shawnigan lake community center sometime this summer - Thu, 2 Jun 2005 9:23pm

All the way from Toronto... For the record, Hybrid did not underpay Kincaide at the show we played with them. In fact, Matteus dipped into his own pocket to overpay us on the guarantee we had set up. We look forward to working with Hybrid again soon. - Thu, 2 Jun 2005 11:02pm

Wow,

What a can of worms!
Well thank you to those who have worked with me for your support, it’s good to know that I’m not a total dick!

I don’t really have time to write this, but I feel that it’s important to clarify a couple of things for those who don’t know me, or are misinformed.

One.
Acidwash came to one of my productions Drunk, specifically one member. Despite my better judgment, I let them in with their WORD they wouldn’t cause a scene. Also after flashing a Mickey of vodka to one of my security guard’s, they placed it in a bag in coat check so that they could come pick it up for some “sociables” through out the night. My security team dumped it and duped them with water, this is where they made a scene becoming verbally abusive to my staff (who volunteer their time) and getting up in their face. I gave them their money back and told them that I would never want to see them again. I have several people who can verify this. The guy who offered his help that night has not come back even though I apologized for the fiasco.
I have no time for such disrespectful behavior at my productions. EVER.

Two.
Whatever business matters occur between myself and a band or its members is OUR business. Derrick was extremely professional about the situation and we still continue communication between us. Please do not speak on behalf of others, let them speak for themselves if they choose.

The bottom line is this folks:
I have to make decisions and everyone I make is weighed very heavily every time and is never easy or clear cut. But when you have YOUR money and reputation on the line, that’s what happens. I have to be the good guy and the bad guy. This is just not a toy, this is a business.

On a completely different note, I would like to say thank you for all of you who have replied with great enthusiasm to this post. I have gone through all of your e-mails, gone to your websites and downloaded every last kilobyte you have to offer. If I have not replied to your e-mail please e-mail me again. The replies were a little over whelming! Auditions will be held soon and like I have stated, it will be an open house so feel free to drop by when the dates are posted. - Fri, 3 Jun 2005 1:18am

Hey Alex from Acidwash here. Just thought I'd have to reply to this. I am not going to lie, YES, I was drunk at your show, id go so far to say i was completely hammered, and it made the night a whole lot better. I dont understand why partying and rock and roll cant go together anymore, when i was drunk there was minimal scene making, i passed out in the back sitting at a table after NicolaLinde. The whole scene was caused when Mattues and his team searched heartily through our bags, and poured out Colins liquor, which was sposed to be checked for the WHOLE NIGHT, not for occasional "socialables". He wasnt drunk, and he is 19! So I dont see why Colin comes off as a badguy when you clearly fucked him over. I can say im sorry for being drunk, i can say im sorry for smoking pot at centennial square, i could say im sorry you dont like Acidwash and the music we make, but when Colin wanted the money we payed at the door back, cause you poured out his liquor, i say fuck you, give the man his money. - Fri, 3 Jun 2005 4:02pm

This is exactly what lots of people don't understand. If you let the bands run the show and walk all over you, as the promoter, than what is the point in putting on a production. Plainly there are rules, if you don't abide by rules you get what is coming to you.
Lets put this in perspective. You get hired at a new job, you then proceed to go to work on your first shift drunk, what do you think the boss is gonna do. No brainer. But i should really speak for myself, matteus knows about that, my group. - Fri, 3 Jun 2005 6:52pm

As someone who witnessed the fiasco you talk about Alex, showing up at the show drunk was foolish. First off, it's an all ages show, and supposed to be an alcohol free zone. There were parents in attendance with their kids and that doesn't show well for Hybrid or any of the bands on the bill.

Second, the attitudes all three of you came in with should've been checked when you left whatever planet ego you came from. Pushing security, swearing, and bringing opening alcohol into any venue is irresponsible and shows a lack of good judgement and respect for the promoter and the people/business involved. - Fri, 3 Jun 2005 6:55pm

Look all i was trying to say before was that the scene was made AFTER they went out of their way to "dupe" us by replacing vodka with water. Nobody in our party drank inside the venue, I drank beforehand and it was a last minute dicision to attend the show. YES, i understand its a business Matteus is trying to run, and yes i can understand why he kicked us out, but it would have been a relatively easy night if he had just told his team to leave our bags alone instead of searching through all our shit. He has his principles and we have ours. I'd find it hard to believe that everyone on this messageboard would allow people to cheat and steal from them, without making a scene, big or small. - Sat, 4 Jun 2005 10:03am

I think only matteus and ian from cipher has ever talked to myself , alex , or reuban of acidwash, and maybe only for 5 minutes if that.

Somehow everyone on this board seems to know every member of acidwash and the giant EGO we all seem to have, which is in no way true.

I just can not figure out how you all think we have ego's if you have never talked to anyone in our band.

By the comments made on this board and others,, it seems that everyone who makes a comment of live victoria has an ego, look back at yourself,

I guess its just easier to label other people who you don't even know, then to judge yourself. - Sat, 4 Jun 2005 2:52pm

Colin, i don't know if you are aware of this, but i am the coolest guy in the world. Well that being in my oppinion. So you saying that YOU don't have an ego, doesn't mean that you don't have an ego. Are you with me here, cause heres the killer..... I'm not the coolest guy in there world, I was just using this as a way to prove a point, and this being because i just said that i am the coolest guy in the world at the top of my post.
What i am saying is that peoples oppinion of you is what the reality is. Not of what you think of yourself, so what you have to do is listen to what people say about you, if you hear that everyone on the board says that you and your band has an ego, maybe its true. And instead of lippen people off that say you have an ego, just get over it, fix the problem because it sounds like you guys do have an ego, but you don't want one...

Thank you to all who replied to this post.

Auditions are now being booked at the Victoria Event Center on the 13th, 20th, and the 27th of this month from 6:30pm onwards with half hour slots. As days are booked up, the bands will be listed on the website on the respective days and times they are playing.

Once again, this will be an open house and an excellent chance to meet other musicians in person.

Once again, thank you for your patience in these endeavors,
