| Brian VIHC User Info... | Nat, I repost to this thread because I'm the promoter so naturally I want to put it back to the top. The others, they have no excuse. They are just crazy. Brandon, the reason for the "no drugs no booze" rule is simple: loud obnoxious kids acting more drunk than they are off their parents' stolen beer attract unneeded attention, neighbours complain, venue staff cancel future shows. It's happened before and caused the loss of many Victoria venues. This is in addition to the behaviour of young drunks such as starting fights, throwing up on the floor (necessitating promoters such as myself having to clean it up) and leaving empty bottles all over the school grounds (the community centre is also a school). I know plenty of people who come to the shows after a few drinks and act reasonably respectable; the difference is that they don't stumble around, try to get in for free, or make a spectacle of themselves. This has nothing to do with straightedge, or forcing anything on anyone. It's been a longstanding guideline of all-ages shows and in order to keep the scene functioning it has to be adhered to. - Wed, 4 May 2005 8:43pm | ||

| Brandon User Info... | I have never attended an all ages show NOT under the influence of something. I havent actually "attended" an all ages show in years, but we drink when we play at em. I can see the drunk-as-fuck factor and you do have to have the no drugs or drinking rule because of the venues you are renting, and the bottles left around the schools is not cool. When I was into the all ages scene we'd drink off venue property, didnt seem to be a problem. For example at little/Big Fernwood, we'd go drink at vic high, Burnside Elementry, theres a small park right down the street directly across from it, Pandora Projects we'd just hang out across the street and drink. Is there mandatory bag/coat checks at the door? that might prevent booze from getting into the hall(if thats a problem). It seems everyone always bitches about the "few drunk people that ruined the show" Dont you guys have "security" people at the venue? Ever thought about just removing the offenders???
