We (armchair Cynics) are looking for some one who wants to make a career in music and is ready to jump in to an established project and tour, tour, tour. Must have lots of live experience and good gear. 5 string bass is pretty much essential.

Here's the game plan for the next little while: We are releasing an EP produced by Dave Genn (former guitarist of Matt Good Band) and Chad Kroeger (I know, I know) with our label 604 records. The first single goes to radio in mid May and will be followed by a video shorlty after. Touring (Feldman's booking) will start in mid May and go through most of the summer. The CD will be distributed by Universal Canada.

Anyone interested? Get back to me with more info on yourself. We need to start working with some one soon.

Perhaps part of the problem is that livevictoria seems to be made up of mostly punk.hardcore, metal, etc bands for some reason. I think also a lot of serious musicians are already working & don't spend their time on the 'musicians wanted' section of livevictoria.

It's been my experience that most good musical connections come from word-of-mouth rather than posting on boards like this... of course I post on boards like this all the time :)

I also think that VIctoria is a bit deficient when it comes to a major music scene (I'm ducking as I say this) because it's tough to make a living here in the music world. for that reason, many musicians have elected to pursure a seperate career & have commitments that make going on tour difficult.

All this wouldn't be the case if it was vancouver because there is a the population there to be able to support local groups. Maybe if you guys are serious enough, you could think about moving there? I know many people who have jump-started their careers in music to in a major way by moving to the big fog :)

I'm one of those people wo have another career going that I can't (or choose not to at the moment) leave. If you're looking for someone to fill in temporarily or maybe just lay down some bass parts, maybe I might be able to provide what you're looking for...

Victoria is a really tough city to get going in musically, i've been trying for a long time in all sorts of different ways. I think that as much as victoria sells itself as a music town with all these festivals, it mostly brings outside acts & tourists to watch them. I think we're simply too small to have a huge thriving music scene.

It's difficult for people to personally invest in a music career in victoria....There obviously have been some successful acts come out of victoria, but most people i know who are doing somehting in the music industry here full time are barely scraping by.

I'm pretty sure they're serious about their music dude... they're pretty much about as solid as it gets and uh...I think they're signed? So yeah...you guys should get Ryan Rae to contact Jesse Roper.

He was jamming with some kid that moved here from White Rock and he said he's the best bass player he has ever heard and Jesse is a pretty solid musician so I am guessing the kid can play. - Fri, 29 Apr 2005 6:27am

well, i'm not in that sort of postition. I have a successful career & a wife. I Don't want o give up what I earn to be a musician. i'd rather do music on the side and make less money at it. - Fri, 29 Apr 2005 6:49pm

No offense, but perhaps most people in this small little town don't view working with Chad Kroeger as a positive move for their career. I have a great deal of respect for your band and the work you've put into your music, but there's no way in hell I would play in a band that takes input from someone like Mr. Kroeger.

Good luck with your search. - Sun, 1 May 2005 2:30pm

a-mac just gave us the perfect response as to why most musicians never come close to having a career in music. Correct me if I'm wrong, Cynics, but I believe you're playing in a band hoping to make a living making music you love, not revolutionize the world by saving the masses from Top 40 rock. Chad obviously knows how to write a hit single, which is often what a band needs to kick start their career. Just because they have a business relationship with Mr. Kroeger doesn't mean they're going to be another Nickelback. It's time for everyone to get over the whole "Chad" thing. We all know you were first in line for tickets to the Nickelback show here a couple years back ;) - Sun, 1 May 2005 7:44pm

Yep, Love him or hate him old Kroeger is selling more records than any band on the island. If quitting your day job and getting paid for music is NOT what you consider part of being a successful musician, then perhaps you might not view working with "The Kroeg" as a positive career move. However, if you want music to be your day job, it seems like a wise move to me. Good luck!

BTW, what happened to that tall dude that played bass for you guys, the one who danced all funny with the bass. I saw you guys play out in Brentwood and I thought that dude was hilarious, but in a cool way! He had style! :) - Mon, 2 May 2005 8:21pm

I agree with amac, and I heard the cynics once
and thought they were pretty into their music.
I agree with you cooper for the most part, but
a band using someone like kruegers influence start their
careers would not be worth it for me if it meant significantly compromising the genuiness or whatever of your music. It's obviously a tough choice for so many musicians, whether to get paid or to stay fully true to your music all the time. For me, more and more every day I find I cannot listen to bands that imo aren't making pure music. There are tons of awesome genres of music, and tons of things music can be used for by different people,
but I think artists who truly understand music and life
and communicate that are few and far between,
Cobain, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Neil Young etc.
You can tell yoru getting the real deal all the time
from these artists, they are all totally unique and
amazing.
Sorry for blabbing on this post, but unpassionate
and unoriginal music brings me down. - Tue, 3 May 2005 7:04pm

how ridiculous. Of course a band like AC would want to be on that label. beats the shit out of miring in obscurity in a flowery outpost for eternity.

It's amazing watching the attitudes fly and the masses playing "ultimate critic". These threads can spiral so out of control it's ALMOST hilarious.
THEY NEED A BASSIST commited to going in the direction they are going. It blows me away that people take the time to analyze everything to death and then comment on the "right" or "wrong" of someone else's choice(s). Make your own fu**ing choices and get on with your own life!
If your a good bassist and want to play somewhere other than Steamers ("not that there's anything wrong with that"), give these guys a bloody call! Nuff said.
Cheers,
Kaleb. - Wed, 4 May 2005 9:48am

Do you have a phone # ?
I've been playing bass over 20 years!
Ignore the cross talk... they aren't interested so I don't know why they reply (like to see their name on the board?)
I am interested and very hard to contact.
I have a day job that pays well over 50G... hard to see that sort of coin come out of a band... still interested.
